Episode 4:
Is this another one of those filler episodes? Felt like it to me unless Kaguya has a stronger purpose for the season. I didn't feel a strong attachment between Kaguya or Raikou at all. And compared to the first season, the Horror designs looks really flat. I do notice her in the ED theme song. Maybe she will be a regular/supporting character and play a more important role later on? Guess we'll have to see.

As it stands now, the brand is the only thing that keeping me watching this anime. I can't get through one episode without missing Hono no Kouin. The characters are face-faulting at best, the Garo armor looks stiffer than it does in the live-action version, the pacing is horrendously slow, and, like I said last week, the staff seems more interested in Japanese folklore than the Garo franchise. |

An episode being irrelevant to the main plot doesn't make it filler. It's called a stand alone episode, and Garo has always had plenty of those (the majority of episodes are like that in fact). That said, it sucked. It was a rather shitty retelling of Kaguya's legend.
The fights are really starting to piss me off. They're even worse than in YamiTera. Raiko puts on his armor and just stands still parrying attacks. I've never seen fights this boring.

These last 2 episodes are kinda meh. But Kaguya is an interesting character. Hope to see more of her.
I did some little research, and I found out that some of the characters are based on real life Japanese figures of the era (yeah, I know the Minamoto surname is already a giveaway).

I think the lesson of the week is that they can't save everyone.
Not too bad for the episode but also predictable. That ending though... Really was a bit sad. I wonder how this all ties in the overall experience for Rikou as a Makai Knight.

Another episode focusing solely on Japanese folklore instead of the actual Garo story.
This show really should be title "Garo - In Name Only". Yet, in the last scene Raikou goes "I reject your reality and substitute my own." So, just like Sakuya last week, I hope Hakamure comes back later, otherwise the episode will remain completely pointless. |

Garo usually consist mostly standalone episodes so episodes like this are mostly expected from Garo. Well if we consider the flow of Garo series base on the live action series, i'd say Episode 8/9 would be use as one of the propelling points.

Well, that was a sad love story.

The characters themselves are based on real-life figures in Japanese history. Heck, the show's timeline is set at the zenith of Fujiwara dominance in Heian-era Japan. We've already seen two of the great noble clans of Japan (Fujiwara & Minamoto) and I'm waiting for the other one to show up (Taira). By the way, who did the OP for this episode? I like that version more.

I really want to like this season but its proving so difficult. I cant see where the story is going and the pacing is slower than my grandmother going upstairs. Im not attached to any of the characters and i dont feel like its going to change. Going to stay with it for 2 more episodes then call it quits if it does not get the story moving.

A bit predictable imo.
I'm really not sure what the overall aim for this season is so far, maybe to explore the different aspects of human nature or something. The Horror design also looks average and fight felt stale/rushed. I really hope there will be a main arc to explore soon especially with the main characters. Parenting can be hard in this show....

I actually think this episode is the best one so far (even if it lack action), I thought the mother was going to get possessed, but her children manage to show her right way. dissapointed that the horror got defeated in one swing.
It look like we closer to the main arc seeing how Douman show up and we learn who is the last mystery samurai in the opening and ending is.

Probably the first episode that I actually liked.
Also - incredebly strong performance by the mother's VA - Junko Iwao. Although I had a sudden flashbacks of Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal (and urge to rewatch it again). But "fights" are still embarrassing to watch, I'm afraid. |
