Who says it is a virus? This isn't Resident Evil. It could be unknown like Dawn of the Dead even paranormal.
But I want it to be a virus, just saying don't assume yet. We have a LOOONG ways to go to figure this one out. |

I'm right there with you Tiger II on the world situation.
I'm going to speculate a little about the current state of the world so bear with me. 1) Earlier on we saw a scene where the US president is considering launching nukes to quell the zombie infestation, he has been bitten, as has his wife, and zombies are aboard air force one gradually pushing back the Secret Service. Apparently Washington D.C. is not secure because they felt the need to pull the pres. out, but what is even more telling is the thought that they are considering nuclear assaults not only on the zombies but on other countries that also have nukes! You don't do that if you fear a reprisal against your own populace, unless of course you no longer have one. Why were there zombies on air force one? Was the situation so critical that the various military bases (there is an entire Marine Division based near D.C., Langley AFB, the National Guard and the Secret Service itself, which has thousands of members, hundreds of which act as direct guards of the president and Congress. How bad is the situation that zombies managed to get through that many layers of protection to harm the president himself? In Summary: I think the entire D.C. area has fallen with the exceptions of the Marine Base, Langley AFB, and the police dept. I can only expect this to also be the case in every major city in the US, and probably every major city in the world. 2) Manner of dispersal of the virus/contagion that is the cause of this incident: a) The virus was initially manufactured by some organization in an areosal(sp?) form but only in sufficient quantities to place in a few major population points (ex. Times Square, NYC) per city and then triggered to release at a certain time simultaneously world-wide. This would bring into question the survivability of the virus in environments that vary in temperature, humidity, air flow, etc. Would also bring up the question has why the supply manufactured was limited, i.e. was it a complex process, does it only have a limited shelf life, was it to expensive, or was there fear within the group planning this that they may be discovered, causing them to act sooner than expected? b) Some kind of supernatural occurrence brought on by a supernatural phenomena or by a group manipulating energies thus far unmentioned in the story to trigger this event. c) Some kind of natural phenomena that was released by an earthquake, volcanic explosion, erosion which effected the drinking water or effected the body in some unknown manner which some could resist in small doses, while those with weaker immune systems succumbed to the contagion/phonemnon. Or this phenomena was discovered by and researched by a group of individuals who decided to implement it for some undetermined goal. d) The virus is alien in nature (i.e. not of earth) and was brought to earth by our own explorers (i.e. expedition to Mars recovers an artifact, sample, just plain rock dust) and was distributed amongst the international community for study eventually leading to some kind of containment mishandling incident which triggered the crisis the world faces now. The virus is alien in nature and was directed upon humanity by an alien intelligence which deemed it useful/profitable in some way or form to disrupt life on earth or it was an initially benign attempt to reach out to humanity which went drastically wrong (i.e. sort of like the Native Americans catching smallpox from European explorers and losing 90% of their population rapidly). e) some manner or form not mentioned thus far. The world as a whole: Well if Japan, China, Russia, and the US are desperate and willing to launch nukes then it is quite likely that most of the world is in a very desperate state. It is interesting to note that the US did not consider India, Bangledesh (sp), Pakistan, basically southeast Asia as targets, seeing as they too have high population densities that are vulnerable to infection like China. Perhaps those countries are in better state, or more likely they are lower on the super-powers priority list. Europe is unique, in that, with its considerable military resources and effective police forces it might be able to eventually manage the situation, on the other hand, it is a continent that is crammed with people. End speculation. Man, I can't wait for chapter 17 to come out!

anyone else think that the cool fat guy(can't recall his name) should survive!
think its a first that I've come across somewhere where the fat guy comes across cooler than the main character its been a rather ok story so far, few cliches here and there but thats a given. It is a manga and zomibe fest after all

well with current party size and story setting, I would have to say at least 1 person would have to give way.
Unless something like 2-3 persons are introduced within the next say 5-8 chapters then then kill them off later, the core group could survive. For me I'm still thinking "ah gotta kill off a few peeps just for some interesting story" but then on the other hand I think "ah lets have everyone survive as that rarely or infact never happens in a zombie fest" but for now I content with Kohta(went to find out his name) and Saeko to live on....oh and Alice, can't have our fair innocent loli taken away from us

Or they could pulll a Dawn of the Dead no one survives.
But I know what you are saying. There is a cliche that says all the good guys can't survive, yet there is also a cliche in horror stories that says some HAVE to die...so it is a double sided scenario, lol. |

I speculate that this time next year or 2010, we'll have an anime adaptation. I won't say that it's the best, but if the author continues on his tangent, we will have a winner on our hands.
An author/mangaka tag-team: Gotta love this combo. |

Well this series has been an extremely pleasant surprise...I didn't even know it existed until I saw a wallpaper derived from one of the color spreads.
All in all...Its stupid...Its cliche...Its ecchi...and for all those reasons I find it extremely good fun heh. Ofcourse I'm also a big lover of zombie stories so that probably helps things. As for the latest episodes...I'm with kira...Saeko is just absolute . But I'm quite fond of all the characters really, which is kinda sad considering in this genre atleast some or all of them are bound to wind up dead in the end...
