My representation of a good villain is someone who can blend in perfectly with the society and is able to make friends and manipulate the hearts of those who love him in order to convey his selfish ideals.
1. Johan from Monster: One would never realize that this guy is a cold blooded killer able to do commit the most atrocious crimes against society unless you follow the anime closely. He has a warm smile, clam eyes, and a soft voice. His father and mother are very proud of him; to them he is just a loving and caring adopted child. He is one the best students at college. He loves children and enjoys their company. Yet, only few know that all his previous parents have been mysteriously murdered in a crime scene so perfect and well planed that nobody has been able to figure out who did such a thing. And, nobody would ever believe he could drive children to suicide. This guy is extremely convincing and manipulative. His physic skills will leave you speechless. The fact that monster is such a realistic anime enhances Johan's extraordinary evil skills. He is by far the most complex and interesting villain I have seen in my entire anime career. 2. Griffith from Berserk: He is your best friend, the helping hand who reaches upon your shoulder when you most need it, an example to all his comrades in battle and source of great pride to the band of hawk, due to the exemplary manner in which he carries himself everyone who "knows" him truly believes he is the perfect human being. Yet, this individual is the purest manifestation of egocentrism and selfishness and he will do anything he can to achieve his dreams. So please do yoursefl a favor and watch Monster and Bersek to fully enjoy what a real villains are made of

Right now I have to add Aizen from Bleach.
I mean this guy was the captain of a squad and lot of people looked up to him. He is very inteligent, mastermind, strong, betrayed everyone including stabbing his vice captain who loved him so much, and potentially very evil. |

^Wow android...you have two of my all-time favorites on your list in the supreme personality of one Sensui and the brilliantly enigmatic Legato Bluesummers...
Not only is Legato Bluesummers perhaps the greatest and most wasted villian of all-time he also may have the greatest-name in anime history for a villian...

Full Metal Panic: the second raid
Gates... A intelligent, cunning villain that let's his insanity run free. He is hillarious and shocking the same time. His performance of "Ave Maria", his treatment of his first commander, getting off to kittens, how he deals with traitors... he isn't some boring madman that is after the hero, not some cruel, ruthless villain that kills off the hero's family and he is definantely not some misunderstood good guy at heart, having fate pitting him against the hero. This guy's insanity has style. |

HA! Awesome Villain. I like the one that Key keeps using in their games as a plot device.
Seriously though I'd have to say Char Aznable. He's not really evil, but makes decisions that can be deemed as such. Plus he has possibly the most genuinely fleshed out character of any villain in anime history. |

Rider from Fate/Stay Night--simply for the hotness.
Durandal outta GSD--philosophical and I-don't-need-no-steenkin-gundam-to-kick-yer-ass! Zechs Merquise outta Gundam Wing--Too bad he doesn't have a 6 foot long katana to complete the badassery =X. Sephiroth--NUFF SAID.

King Hamdo, King Hamdo, KING HAMDO!
To me, a "good villain" is either: a. A three dimensional character who just has opposing goals to the protagonist or b. A character who actually makes the audience genuinely HATE and DESPISE him/her, and *not* drool at how 'cool' and 'badass' he or she is. King Hamdo fits in category B. That guy made me go crazy. Literally. Remember that scene where he gets so crazy that he breaks the glass he is holding and cuts himself? His behaviour made ME almost break my glass of coke in the same way. I wanted to jump in to the television and beat the crap out of him. A really detestable person, that King Hamdo was. And his instability made it worse. Typing about him makes me crazy >_<

Vicious from CB - "and you will shed crimson tears..."
spoiler for ending of CB below Spoiler:
Yagami Light - watch Death note. No explanation needed Kuroro Lucifer - probably the one guy with infinite potential in the Hunter X Hunter universe - Kurapica may fall in this category too. Has specialization nen with no predefined limits in other areas... Unfortunately, HxH has essentially gone down the crapper with this atrocious insect business and indefinite breaks. |
