China: land of piracy

We all know about all the bootleg animes but I've learned at work that China is a major source for counterfeit prescription drugs. There has almost been a tenfold increase in the amount of counterfeit drugs sold in the US in the past 10 years.

Alot of counterfeit goods aren't worth the money. Most of the time they do not comply with safety standards. I'm not sure why anyone would buy these potentially dangerous goods.

Most of the time they package them to look exactly like the original and through an intricate network of fake distributors they enter the market.

I bought a new sorny dvd player.... it works relatively well with my panaphonics television

all jokes aside..
i'm sure people buy cheap drugs (even with the suspicion that they may be counterfeit) mainly for the cheap cheap price..

i won't say that all of China is a developing country.. but there are many poor areas with people that might not be able to afford the real deal.

I heard China is developing their own DVD alternative (EVD). Does this have anything to do with stopping piracy? I really hope so, but I doubt it.

I heard that this new format will attack the market share of DVDs. Im not too sure about that. They could try!

Besides they did not clearly state that this new format has something to do with the pirated dvd problems.

Hey, I can buy a DVD for slightly more than a dollar there. Do you hear me complaining?

Besides, China has Chinese food, and everybody loves Chinese food.

HA! If love buying pirate dvds, why not just rent some legit R1 DVDs and burn it.

Since some people cant be change, why not provide a better alternative. In the end, its actually a good things, since your not supporting China. IMO, Piracy = $$$ for Terrorist

Ofcourse, I dont RENT dvds and back them up. Im better than that!

The only thing that I agree about is the Chinese food. I like Orange Chicken, atleast there's SOME good things about China.

Nowadays, everything is MADE IN CHINA. But I always go for things MADE IN JAPAN. Doesn't that sound better?

you go to China and buy a bottle of Viagra, chances are that is fake :| No one wants to consume fake drugs. If nothing happens and your sickness didnt go away, fine. But the thing is you dont know what 'stuff' are used to make it :$

EVD is a second-generation of DVD-Video, its spec is similar to Sony's Blue-Ray but it uses a new video compression scheme (forgot the name), it is supposingly as good as XVID.

According to my texbook for my business class 10-30 percent of China's manufactoring base is dependant on fakes and growing. They say around half of the worlds 14 billion batteries manufactured are from China, and it's estimated that as much as 1/3 of it is counterfiet. But many products from shampoo, watches, to toilets are flooded into the european market from China and much of it is counterfiet. And nobody is gonna switch the standard to something developed in China since they already cost the film industry billions of dollars because of counterfeit, why send them more money?

But no reason to get mad about it. Their punishment is that they have to live in China. Man that would suck ass.

That was true ten years ago but not anymore. In fact many fake Duracells look so genuine that Gillette has to send them to a forensics lab to analyze them to find out if they are real or not.

about the Anime
Chinese Fansubs translate and publish Most Animes
than
Someone download
Make it into CD or DVD
sell
the the piracy Anime CDs or DVDs come

By the way , almost no foreign anime can be Licensed in China.
If you wanna see the new Anime , You must download or buy the piracy CD\DVD.

In China ,the BT download is not popular.
We like the FTP download , and each big fansubs in China often got one or more Ftp Servers their own
Like : Popgo , Dmhy , Lanyin

PS:
the price of piracy goods ( 8 RMB = 1 dollar )
One CD : 5 RMB =$ 0.70 (Windows XP is One CD
One DVD: 15 RMB =$ 2.00
One TV games CD: 4 RMB

One original games : 49 RMB to 168 RMB
One original PS2 games:Over 300 RMB
and One PS2 sells here will cost you 1998 RMB !(249.75 dollars !!!)
One original Softs: 49RMB to 200RMB (Some may be more dear, Windows XP about 2000 RMB)

So People here buy the piracy CD very common.
One original Softs sell 100,000 the piracy at least 1,000,000
I think except OEM and the government , the other Computers here all install the piracy Windows XP

Ok, I'll put the sarcasms aside

Interesting reads The point is though, terrorism exists because of nurtured hatred, antagonisms, and impotence in other effective means of intimidation / persuasion. In the case of arab fundamentalists for example, they are taking advantage of the hatred fuelled by the status quo in the middle-east and the fear of the future and modernization (social changes like women rights, liberalisation, etc..), resulting in a fall-back into obscurantism.

One should take care not to mix the means and the ends of terrorist networks. In the case of arab fundamentalists funding comes mainly from hefty donations "for the cause" from the saudi oil nobles and royal peers made rich by oil (and who buys their oil ? we do), and that has hardly ever been a secret. So following your reasoning, every time you go to the gas station, you're supporting terrorism.

What you do to avoid supporting terrorism is up to you, but even if I were an American, I wouldn't give up on driving my car. So you just have to draw the line somewhere. For my part I don't think buying or not buying pirated DVDs, likewise filling up the car's fuel tank, is going to change anything to the problem. As you point out, they'll get the money they need by any possible means anyway.

I'm just pointing out the flaws in your "piracy = $$ for terrorists, so don't spend money on it" reasoning, take no offense. I'm not going to laugh at you because you refuse to buy bootleg anime. I don't buy or sell any bootlegged stuff anyway.

Actually, I think China is one of the best countries at fighting terror groups. I think there was one group (Al-qaida?) that tried to establish in south-western China, but they were totally terminated, the government simply arrested and executed anyone or anything that they even suspected had to do with the terror-group. So I dont think the income from piracy really supports terrorism but rather greedy gangster organizations.
