SDF Macross Re-Watch 2011

SDF Macross Re-Watch 2011

Let's re-watch the first Macross, Super Dimension Fortress Macross! The series that started more than just the Macross franchise. The birth of the anime idol, where mecha action and music glory came from, and more!

We'll watch one episode each week, on Saturday, and spend that week discussing it, as if it were airing. You don't have to watch it on Saturday exactly, but that's when the discussion will begin. We'll start this Saturday, May 14th.

The Schedule:

I recently finished a rewatch, though it would be lots of fun doing one here and discussing it with the lot of you. I'm in.

I'm in as well, although I'll keep my thoughts much shorter than for Frontier. I think.

Is it gonna be a rule that we have to watch your version of the series?

I'm debating on watching the newer dub or go subtitles.

Ugh. Dubs are terrible. Subbed Japanese original all the way.

This.

I'll probably go with the R1 DVD's. They've done me plenty of justice over the years.

They actually did a good dub of this though. Minmay's original voice actress even took part.

To each his own, but even with Mari involved, I thought the dub was terrible overall.

To be honest, I watched it quite a while ago. I may have a different opinion of it now, we'll see.

Well...I'll be watching too well, once the semester is over...
That said...given when the DVD/BD of a certain movie should be out, I might shoot ahead if I can find the time...

Time to start this off... with the most important part...

Yot-Chan Watch 2011!!

Ah, Yot-chan, you little scamp...will you never learn that ingesting fluids leads to urination...?

As a side-note, in most official material, Yot-chan's full first name is given as "Yoshio." However, in the novelization of SDFM, for some reason, it's "Yoshikazu."

This is my first time seeing SDF in Japanese, and I already enjoy the voices much better than the old Robotech dub.

Sometimes rough animation is annoying, but I really like seeing the rough pen lines.
The theme song is catchy, too. Definitely an earworm. xD Ma-ku-ross~~ Ma-ku-ross~~
