August 30th, the last day of their summer vacation.
Tatsuya is at the table with an ice pick and Miyuki had a bowl of fluffy ice. She had made ice using magic and Tatsuya made shaved ice with an ice pick (it's fluffier with the pick than with his decomposition magic). Miyuki pours coffee on the ice to make iced coffee, and then takes off her apron. Underneath it she is wearing a dress. She sits next to Tatsuya and they reminisce about when she bought the dress.
August 14, two days after the Nine-Schools Competition ended.
Tatsuya was going to be busy the following week with the Flight CAD being released and then he would be busy with field training with the Independent Magic Battalion. Having the weekend free, he decided he would buy a present for Miyuki for her success in Mirage Bat. That day, they were in the city center shopping. Miyuki was wearing her conservative fashion while Tatsuya was wearing tight fitting pants and an over-shirt, giving the two a somewhat mismatched appearance, even though both were dressed conservatively.
Miyuki and Tatsuya enter a clothing store which had real clothes to try on (image technology was used, and clothing was often sent to the customer, so there was no need to keep stock. It was only done at more high-class stores). Miyuki checks the price tag on one of the mannequins (now also done electronically) and frowns. Tatsuya tells her not to hold back because she knows where his income comes from. Picking out three dresses, Miyuki is guided to the back of the store. to change. While changing, the clerk approaches Tatsuya and asks if Miyuki will wear a dress she buys and act as advertisement for the store as she moves around the shopping district. Tatsuya is not particularly interested in the discount, but is interested in other things the store might sell (I couldn't figure out what it was for the life of me. It may not have been explained, but it was more olikely an issue with the machine translation).
Tatsuya goes further into the store and looks at Miyuki's dresses, praising her every time. Though she was hidden in the back, people still caught glimpses of her and a crowd formed as she tried out the different clothes like a fashion show. The store soon becomes crowded, with the people (mostly women, since the shopping center was designed for them) looking around the shop while waiting for Miyuki to come out in her next dress. Whether or not she noticed is unknown to Tatsuya, since she was engrossed in having Tatsuya's eyes only on her. After trying on twenty one different dresses, she decides she wants a specific one (the one in the image). Tatsuya buys that one as well as two others they both felt looked good on her, and they leave the store with Miyuki wearing her new dress.
While wearing the new dress, the two walk around the shopping center to look for more things for Miyuki to look at. Miyuki is holding onto Tatsuya's arm and leaning against him as they walk along. The two decide to enter a pasta house for an early lunch. As they enter, everyone stops doing anything and looks at the two. A waiter finally manages to collect himself and guides them to a seat deeper into the store. Tatsuya stops the waiter from pulling out Miyuki's chair and does it himself, then sits down. He had stopped the waiter and acted graciously, making all the peoples' thoughts change. (They originally thought the two were a mismatched couple or that Miyuki had poor taste in men to cover up for their own sense of inferiority, but seeing Tatsuya act as he did, they gave up and felt the two matched each other)
Soon after they order, a young man enters the restaurant with a famous actress. They sit near to Tatsuya. The actress is surprised, since she has never gone without attention. She wants to see what the commotion is about, but her pride doesn't allow her to look with small glances. She sees Tatsuya and thinks he is only average, so she figures Miyuki (who has her back to the actress) was the source. Because of her superiority complex, she asks the young man to bring Miyuki over on the pretense that he would invite her to act in a movie.
The young man was the president of a talent agency and gave it only a few moments' thought. He had originally wanted to solicit Miyuki to join, but because he was with an actress, he could do nothing. He stands up and walks over to Tatsuya and Miyuki.
Miyuki clearly does not want the man's presence, but he persists, continuing to talk as she is clearly letting off her ill mood. The man is nervous, but doesn't want to lose to an amateur who happens to beautiful. He reaches forward to her.
Tatsuya does not believe it will be a harmful action, but he still does not allow the man to touch Miyuki. Before he realizes it, he stood up, grabbed the man's wrist, and twisted it in such a way that it would cause pain. The man fell down and nearly becomes incontinent.
The waiters and waitresses approach the man and tell him to leave. The actress, his companion, had already left beforehand. Because the staff's response was delayed, the head chef cooks their meal free of charge. Their dinner ends with desert, which was especially memorable for Miyuki. It was a traditional vanilla ice cream cake. The waiter placed the cake in the center of the table, gave each of them a spoon with a long handle (long enough that it would be inconvenient to use for oneself) and says Tatsuya and Miyuki match each other well. Miyuki smiled with flushed cheeks, scoops the ice cream cake, and presents it to Tatsuya (that was the purpose of the spoons).
As the two of them leave, they encounter the president of the talent agency who has now brought four people with him. They are likely gangsters in accordance to Tatsuya's judgment. The man reveals that he knows Tatsuya and Miyuki were magicians, since he had seen the Nine-Schools Competition. He also reveals that he believes some absurd urban myths when it came to magicians (One was that they were inferior because they were humans made with genetic engineering, and the other is that he believes Magicians can't use magic within a city because there was something wrong with a Magician's head or there was some sort of mental interference machine that prevented them from using magic). Seeing the gang members ready for a fight, Tatsuya lifts his hands and opens his palms, a sign that he won't need magic to fight them. The gangsters interpret his actions in such a manner and approach to attack him.
After he immediately dispatches them with a quick blow to a vital spot, he advances on the president. The president backs up and eventually runs into a policeman, who shows signs of arresting them all. One of the officers talks to Tatsuya and Miyuki and reaches towards the back pocket where handcuffs might be. However, she presents a notebook to Miyuki and asks for an autograph as an alumnus from First High School who saw her wonderful performance during the competition.
August 31
They discuss the sudden meeting with the officers as well as how they were detained for a long time while Miyuki was being talked to by the police (most of which were her fans now). After everything is said and done, they clean up and head out of the house to the bank. Miyuki follows along with him, using the pretext that she wants new shoes. Her reasons are obvious, though, since she wants to stay with Tatsuya. They had decided beforehand that any time they walk around in public, they would act as lovers instead of siblings (so they were always sitting shoulder to shoulder. This was because Miyuki would be approached by boys. Since she was polite, she would not refuse to talk to them, and it would just eat up too much time.
They eventually reach the bank. Tatsuya was going not for the purposes of money, but to renew his ID which was used for a variety of electronic applications. While they're at the bank, there is a rare occurrence, a bank robbery. This is odd, since there is very little money kept at a bank (it's electronic now), and certain systems for money transfer were used on a person to person basis. When the robbers appear in the lobby, a transparent wall which protects them from bullets separates the tellers from the customers and the customers from the lobby. Tatsuya was not doing anything and Miyuki had buried her head into Tatsuya's chest. They were both pretending to be normal people (He was pretending to be protecting her and vice versa). With their plans failed, the burglars notice Tatsuya's actions and smirk at Tatsuya and Miyuki's actions. At that point in time, a security guards who had moved to an upper story jump down and subdue the criminals.
Once the two are in a private room used for Tatsuya's ID renewal, the two break out in laughter.
