As a person who lived in asia country i can asure that.
Iam a guy with 186cm height, most girl i see is about my shoulder and below (some even almost at my stomach) and they are not "kids", they are full adult between 20's to 30's i can understand if westerner found it strange, but to call it gross? (pedo, etc). Those people really need to have vacation in asia country (singapore, japan, taiwan, etc), see if they can find girls who at least reach their shoulder lol |

That would have made the episode utterly perfect. If she followed that up by beating up warrior bunny woman that'd be even better. |

I feel bad for sugawara.
His face of embarrassment looks quite different than all the others when each male being hooked up with someone at the epilogue scene. Sugawara seemed to me, wasn't really fond of it, he may felt really awkward on the inside. Compared to the SDF soldier often saying he is jealous, no Sugawara is more to feel sorry for than singles. I bless Sugawara and Sherry, I really do. And it is not like they are setting a wedding immediately. Sugawara said himself, he is not going to break the law after all. It is most likely that they will start out as a family, but not getting married, yet. However, some of Sugawara's fellow politicians might point fingers at him without he himself knowing, no he probably knew many of his acquaintances will criticize him somehow. Love the series, pretty much what I was looking for a modern vs. Fantasy world without going all curbstompy.
Just a question: why couldn't they just depose/execute Zorzal and the pro-war senators for rebellion then have the Emperor re-establish the government with pro-peace senators? Why go through a bloddyt civil war of all things with 2 separate imperial governments? Is it because of optics?

At this point, the emperor and Pina do not have enough military strength to take over Zorzal and the senators. Zorzal pretty much has a tight grip over the military. The JSDF are only there to support and rescue the pro-peace senators, their officials, and people under their protection. The JSDF is currently not in an offensive military stance. The emperor has to rally those under him to build up his troops. There will probably be a lot of deserters on Zorzal's side who will go over to the emperor, or Pina in this case. The JSDF cannot directly participate yet, since it is still the empire's internal dispute right now. Plus, the emperor does not want the JSDF to do everything, since that will make the emperor and Pina out to be a puppet government.

Marathoned this in two days. Fast-paced and fun to watch, I certainly don't regret picking this up.
The premise gives room for a shit-ton of incidents to happen...like other countries entering the special region, or Pina's brother (ima call him Whiskey) seeking help from Russia/America and getting in an international conflict. Even Yanagida's incident was pretty hot, but was somehow resolved offscreen and the rest of these matters are barely addressed. While this may seem bad from a certain PoV, it also frees up a LOT of screentime for everything else to unfold, keeping the series from sinking to a standstill. There are lots of characters, most of which are likeable and easy to identify. This may be all about the empire getting rekt by the JSDF, I have to admit it was super fun to watch. Itami's harem is also very interesting: he's technically married to Lelei, formed a contract with Rory and possesses Yao, who was nonchalantly sold off to him after the fire dragon mission. Tuka and Risa are the weakest links, but it's cool, it doesn't need to get any more competitive Spoiler for A few things tho:
The last episode was just like the rest of them, with an extra bonus of instant ogre-slaying and princess-rescuing. I look forward to a third season, so...till next year, probably! P.S: The first OP was awesome. I liked both EDs...as well as the fact that military life is displayed like something easy Disobeying orders incurs varying penalties, breaking equipment is (to my local knowledge) 20 days of suspension plus paying for it (looking at you, Kuribayashi), not attending a roll call is 2-4 days, going MIA varies (although Itami is justified as deep recon). ^ That actually covers most of it, thank you!
I suppose Yao did give herself to Itami...what's with women so readily offering their bodies? I know it's middle ages stuff, but still. Anyway, her position in his harem is ideal, I daresay it is very well-built right now. Even if the Empire is Japan's allied country, the JSDF would probably have no right to interfere in a civil war - they'd take care of outsiders though, being a defence force and all. EDIT: Forgot to mention, just a pet peeve of mine, but since this was apparently written by a former SDF member, is there a single military series where people salute properly? (afaik you raise your hand to point to the national flag that is embroidered on the beret/cap - you don't salute with a kevlar helmet on and you salute differently when armed with a rifle) Last edited by Kafriel; 2016-04-06 at 07:38. |

Ok, didn't know about that, although it makes sense. I'll take the halberd explanation too, for now...since everyone else seems to use magic of some sort and Rory is a demi-goddess, I guess gravity manipulation isn't too much of a deal.
