What if the Gate connects Japan to the ASOIAF universe?
I actually have a prototype chapter I never got to completing. In this version, it a sort of AU of what I've heard the light novels delve into, i.e. the Gate closing, trapping Youji on the other side.
In this AU, Youji finds himself separated from Rory, Tuka, and Lelei, but still escapes with a jeepload of weapons and supplies and find another Gate. He enters, thinking it will lead him home... only to end up on the shore of a lake in Westeros known as the God's Eye... just in time to meet another female character who has recently lost her father...
NOTE: This is a beta and I am not responsible for any edits needed, as well as loose ends involving the fate of a certain character present in the scene....
Spoiler for Saving Space- beta Gate- ASOIF/GoT crossover:
I do not own A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones or Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There. Game of Thrones is property of George R.R. Martin and HBO. ASOIF is property of George R.R. Martin. Gate is property of Takumi Yanai.
Note: Takes place after the closing of the Gate, and at the end of the Season 2 of Game of Thrones. Prior to this, Youji is separated from the rest of the group, and finds a second “Gate” (but without the surrounding archway). Youji enters, thinking it will bring him back to Earth.. but instead...
Woods near the Gods Eye, Westeros, around midnight, local time.
Japanese Self-Defense force Lieutenant Youji Itami had driven less than a kilometer in the Mitsubishi Type 73 Light Truck along the dirt road he found himself on after he crossed through the second Gate, when he heard as sound that confirmed what what he was already beginning to suspect: He was not on Earth.
The sound in question was that of steel clashing against steel, accompanied by shouting. Youji immediately stopped the vehicle, and grabbed his Howa Type 64 assault rifle out of the back of the vehicle, along with a pair of night vision goggles.
As quietly as possible, Youji crept through the woods, his night vision goggles illuminating the world with a green glow. As he neared a clearing the woods, he spotted a stone tower, and in front of the tower, a group of men in medieval-looking plate armor and red capes, along with a group of what appeared to be teenagers, being led by the men at sword-point.
Three dead bodies lay on the ground, two of them wearing the same armor and red cloaks as the soldiers, and one was a bearded man clad in black, with a crossbow bolt stuck in his chest.
One of the teenagers was lying on his back, with one of the soldiers standing over him. “What do we have here?”, the soldier asked.
“No!”, the teenager said in an unexpectedly feminine voice- even with the night vision goggles, it was hard to tell, but it seemed like “he” might be “she”- as the armored soldiers took a rapier off of her(?) person.
“That’s a fine little blade”, the man-at-arms said as he picked up the rapier, “Maybe I’ll pick my teeth with it”. At that, Youji realized that the people of…. Wherever this was… seemed to speak perfect English.
In the back ground, a fat boy said “I yield, I yield!”, in a panicked voice, while the man on horseback, presumably the leader of the small squad of soldiers said “Round up any survivors, we’ll take them back to Harrenhal.”
“Help!”, a male voice said, and Youji turned to see a boy with wavy blonde hair lying on the ground a few meters away, with a crossbow bolt in his leg.
“Something wrong with your leg, boy?”, the man-at-arms asked.
“Look at it”, the boy replied
“Can you walk?”, the soldier asked.
“No” the boy replied, “You’ve gotta carry me”.
“All right”, the soldier replied, and held out his hand, apparently to carry help him up. To Youji’s horror, the soldier then thrust the rapier he had taken from the girl moments earlier into his neck. The boy coughed up blood and fell on his back, dead.
Youji did not know who the soldiers were, or why they were after that those kids, but one thing was clear: he wasn’t going to let them get away with murdering a child in cold blood. Youji lined the the sights of his rifle over the soldier who just killed the wounded boy, and slowly exhaled as he squeezed the trigger.
Meanwhile, about a dozen meters way,
Arya Stark lowered turned away and lowered her head at the death of Lommy, one of her travelling partner. Seconds later, she turned as she heard the Amory Lorch speak up.
“We’re looking for a bastard named Gendry”, he said.
Arya spoke up, about to tell a desperate lie in an attempt in order to prevent the death of a second friend tonight.
“If you want Gendry, he’s…”
Arya’s words were interrupted by a loud crack, like thunder. Immediately, a hole was blown in the chest of Polliver, a Lannister man-at-arms, his armor providing no protection whatsoever. Polliver collapsed to the ground, clutching the wound in his torso.
“What the fuck was that?!”, one of the soldiers yelled.
“Is that magic? Does… it actually exist?”, another asked no one in particular in a fearful voice.
Less than a second later, there was another loud, crack, and the back of Amory Lorch’s head exploded. Amory was dead before he hit the ground.
The sound rang out a third time. This time, it was a spearman who fell dead. This time, Arya could see that the “thunder” was accompanied by a flash of “lighting”, that appeared to come from the forest.
A Lannister crossbowman and two swordsmen had seen a man in the woods illuminated by the flash, and assumed he must be the cause of the strange deaths. The crossbowman took aim with his bow, only for him to fall as two wounds appeared in his chest with two more loud bangs. Seconds later, the two swordsmen were cut down in a similar manner.
“Run for your lives”, one of the soldiers yelled, as he fled the scene in terror. The rest of them soon followed suit, hysterically yelling something that sounded like “The Wrath of the Seven”. Soon afterwards, several of the survivors of the other group fled in opposite direction.
Within seconds, only Arya, Hot Pie, and Gendry were left standing in the clearing. When they heard the sound of someone coming out of the bushes, all three of picked up the nearest weapon lying on the ground, Gendry and Arya both grabbing swords, and Hot Pie picking up a one-handed battle axe.
Arya and her two travelling companions both turned to the source of the sound, a man unlike anyone Arya had had seen before. It was hard to tell in the dark of night, but the man appeared to be clad in clothing that was a peculiar mottled pattern of various shades of green and brown. On his head, he wore a bowl-shaped helmet with no nose guard, with the same pattern of mottled green and brown. On his face, he wore a strange sort of mask that covered only his eyes, with short black tubes where each eye should have been. She wondered how he could see out of it.
But the thing that intrigued, and quite honestly, frightened Arya was the weapon- she was sure that was what it had to be, though she had never seen anything like it- that he held in his hands. The man held it like a crossbow, resting the stock on his shoulders and holding the trigger. But it had no prod or, for that matter, any mechanism that looked like it could shoot a bolt. There was only a black-colored tube, with a sort of metal box below that, and at the end, there was a blade, which she assumed was for using it as a short spear.
“Don’t come any closer!”, Arya said, trying not to show any sign of fear, “I’m warning you, I know how to use a sword!”
“Relax”, the man replied in what was clearly to common tongue, but he spoke extremely slowly, as though it wasn’t his first language, “I mean you no harm.”
None of the three people in the clearing lowered their weapons. Instead, Arya asked, “Who are you?”
“My name is Youji Itami”, the man said, before continuing, “I am a Lieutenant in the JSDF”
“Lootenant? Jay ess dee eff?”, Arya asked, “What are talking about, start making some sense!”
Youji figured the three people there would react that way. This place was obviously just like the Special Region, at a medieval technology level, and had no previous contact with his, or probably any other world”
“I come from a far distant country called Japan”, Youji replied, “I am a soldier in their military.”
“You’re a knight?”, Hot Pie asked, “Why aren’t you wearing armor?”
“Didn’t I tell you not everyone who wears armor is a knight?!”, Gendry replied.
“I am not a knight, we do not have such titles in my country”, Youji replied, “and for you information, I am wearing armor. Kevlar- a material from my country, far lighter than steel, but very strong.”
“I’ve never heard of this ‘Kevlar’”, Arya replied, “and what manner of weapon is that, which can summon thunder, and kill people from a distance without arrows or bolts? Is it magic?”
“This is a Howa Type 64 battle rifle”, Youji replied, “And no, it is not magic, though it may seem like it to you. I’d guess my country is about 800 to 1000 years more advanced in technology than yours.”
All three of the extradimensional teenagers stared at Youji, clearly not understanding a word he said.
“Never mind”, Youji said, “Who are you, and where exactly am I? And for that matter, who were they?”, Youji motioned to the bodies of the men he shot moments earlier
Arya considered the man from a moment, and said, “My name is Arya”, deciding to leave out the fact that she was the daughter of recently executed nobleman, at least for now.
“My name is Gendry”, the smaller of the two boys replied, before the fatter of the two said, “Call me ‘Hot Pie’, everyone does.”
“You really know nothing about Westeros, or Joffery, or anything?”, Arya asked.
“No, as I said, I am from a far distant country, and was recently shipwrecked here”, Youji said, decided it would make a more believable story than “I walked through a portal from another world”.
“You are in the Riverlands of Westeros, near the God’s Eye”, Arya said.
“God’s Eye?”, Youji asked.
“The lake”, Arya said, “And those soldiers are of loyal to the House Lannister, allies of the tyrant king Joffery Baratheon. The whole of the Seven Kingdoms are at war with each other. It all started when King Robert Baratheon died and Joffery took the throne. The Baratheon’s fight with each other, and House Stark of The North fights for independence.”
“I see”, Youji said, “And where do you fit in all this. It sounded like they were looking for someone in particular. Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. I assure you, the JSDF does not support child murderers.”
And here is where the beta-chapter ends abruptly!
I also have an idea about a Gate - Madan No Ou to Vanadis (the far superior light novel version of course) crossover. In this one, it is not an army that appears through the Gate, but a dragon, which is easily dispatched by a well-placed missile from a Cobra gunship. Not taking any chances, the JSDF sends an armored division to make first recon of the area, and is shocked discover a medieval civilization on the other side....
Spoiler for Summary of Gate/Vanadis crossover idea, also, minor Vanadis spoliers:
Essentially, the JSDF make their initial recon of the area beyond the Gate and end up in the Dinant Plains, during the opening scene of the anime and LN, where Tigrevurmud Vorn is taking aim at Vanadis of Zchted Eleonora Viltaria... Only for Eleonora to suddenly turn her horse and charge at a new threat... a horde of "iron beasts", unknown to her, actually Mitsubishi Type 94 tanks and damages one with her "Wind Cleave" magic of her sword...
Only for the tanks to retaliate and open fire, cutting down most of the Zchtedi army with cannon and machine gun fire, and wounding both Elen and Tigre... who wake up in a JSDF hospital... The Lord Marksman and the War Maiden alike are now prisoners of war...
Other plot ideas I had are:
In the next few months, the JSDF go on a "tour" of the world of Vanadis, curb stomping medieval armies and even the mysterious demons, making them beloved by those they saved... and feared by all who find themselves before their guns and live to tell the tale. At the same time, they win the hearts of Zchted by saving the life of Vanadis Alexandra Alshavin, whose blood disease is easily treated with modern medicine.
But... where medieval armies and inhuman horrors failed, a new menace comes in the form of the Princess of the Hollow Shadow, Vanadis Valentina Glinka Estes, who, after getting her hands on a geography textbook from Earth, discovers her ability to create portals to any location extends to Earth... where she finds a country with a language similar to Zchted... with a leader more than willing to accept her demands.... In exchange for the throne of Zchted, she will lead the armies of a Russo-Chinese alliance into Zchted.
The "Special Region" (world of Vanadis) is now split between the Russo-Chinese alliance and their puppet-queen Valentina and the JSDF, reinforced by US and NATO forces. Both sides recruit Special Region inhabitants, arming them with antiquated bolt-action rifles to further bolster their ranks.
The world of Vanadis can only watch as they are thrust into the middle of a clash of nations, which threatens to consume both worlds....
A Gate oneshot I posted on the main forum a while back:
Spoiler for Oneshot Fic:
One block east of the doujinshi convention attended by Youji Itami, Ginza, Tokyo
Tatsumi Yamada hurriedly climbed the ladder to the driver's seat of the front end loader parked at the construction site. In front of him, he heard the sounds of screams, steel piercing flesh, and a gunshots as a police officer fired what looked like a cross between an ancient Roman army and something out of a fantasy movie.
At first he had thought the army that marched up the street was part of some kind of elaborate movie set. However, that illusion was quickly shattered when they started killed people with very real swords and spears, and were fired on by police.
"Actors didn't go around killing people, and they definitely did were not fired on by police.", Yamada realized immediately. He did not know what was going on, but he knew one thing: "Those cops don't have enough ammo to hold them off for very long, unless someone did something, the mysterious enemy would kill everyone her before the JSDF showed".
And so, that was how the 43 year-old construction worker ended up on the front lines an in inter-world war. Yamada turned the key, and the 1500 horsepower diesel engine of the loader roared to live.
Yamada stepped on the gas, causing the vehicle to lurch forward, plowing straight through the chain link fence surrounding the construction site- now was not the time to worry about property damage- as the last civilian survivors on the street ran past the site.
Turning the massive construction machine towards the Imperial forces, Yamada stared down a force of soldiers armed with spears and square shields, currently forming a shield wall. The soldiers were flanked by orc-like creatures armed with clubs and axes.
Yamada felt the adrenaline rush through his veins as he slammed the pedal to the floor. The loader rolled forward at it meager maximum speed of about 35 kilometers per hour towards the invading army.
The enemy soldiers stood firm with their shields raised, as a group of archers fired arrows at the loader from behind them. At the same time, the crew of a large wheeled ballista pulled back the string of their weapon and loaded a massive, spear-like bolt.
A few of the storm of arrows struck the windshield of the loader and cracked it, but did not go through. Deciding he did not want to push his luck any further, Yamada pulled a lever to the right of his seat, raising the loader bucket over the cab, shielding him from incoming fire.
With a loud thudding sound, the ballista discharged directly at Yamada. Had he not raised the bucket when he did, the bolt would have gone through the windshield and right into his face. As it was, it bounced harmlessly off the thick steel bucket.
When the ballista failed to strike down the roaring steel beast that charged them, many of the rear ranks of the Imperial army turned and fled in terror. A soldier who was dressed like a Roman Centurion raised his sword and barked orders for them to say- probably threatening them with execution. This did nothing to stay their flight.
For the front ranks, who were boxed in by those behind them, there was nowhere to run. Yamada lowered the bucket of the loader to about chest level just before it made contact with the invading horde.
At that moment, twenty tons of steel make contact with the armies of an otherworldly Empire. From the cab, Yamada gave a shout of "Fuck you, Caesar!"
Shields and spears were reduced to splinters by the impacts as men were thrown through the air like rag dolls, before slamming on into the pavement several meters away.
A few soldiers tried to thrust their spears into the tires of the loader. Their efforts proved futile, and managed only to stain the tires with blood as they were crushed under the machine.
As the front end loader effortlessly demolished the now-unmanned ballista, the survivors of the initial contact with the machine fled, leaving behind 23 mangled bodies and a street strewn with splintered shields, snapped spears and bows, and bent swords.
As Yamada looked back in the rearview mirror, he saw that the group of fleeing civilians was no longer in sight- his efforts were a success- he had held them off.
As this thought passed through his head, Yamada heard the sound of helicopter blades fill the air, along with sounds he had previously only heard in movies: machine gun fire and explosions. The JSDF had arrived to make short work of the invaders.
Another crossover idea: Rokka No Yuusha: (Be warned, only on 5th ep.)
Presented in a "movie trailer script" format:
Spoiler for Saving space- Rokka crossover idea:
*scene opens on the six main characters of Rokka fighting a large group of fiends*
Nashetania: More of them! Flying ones too!"
*Fremy takes aim at one of them, but before she can pull the trigger, it is hit by a burst of automatic weapons fire and killed instantly.
*Sound of machine gun fire, explosions, engine noise, and crushing vegetation as several Type-74 tanks and dozens of infantry appear from the jungle. Fiends are easily cut down by tank gun and and small arms fire*
Fremy: A gun that can kill fiends AND can be fired multiple times... but... this is impossible... and what are those iron carriages that move without horses
*Meanwhile, in the air, flying fiends are struck by air-to-air missiles and cannon fire, as a squadron of JSDF F-4 Phantoms fly by.
(After the firing stops) Nashetania: So, still think you're the world's strongest man, Adlet?
Also, coming soon, two versions of a pilot chapter of a Gate/Vanadis crossover: the original and the "grimdark version".
Honestly I would love a fanfic where we see not just Japan or US, but rather, the United Nations as a whole get involved.
I just find it more interesting to see soldiers of various nations working together to bring peace, rather than the whole 'Ra-ra we're so much more powerful than you! Nationalism whoo!' message the story has.
In a sense they act like UN, well except that entire battle on the hill part.
What they do now is keeping low, keeping the peace, calming down tensions in area, making friends and treaties, protecting civilians from aggressors and helping them in everyday activities.
Yup, thye are pretty much more UN now than they are SDF. With the main difference of course that they can shoot back when attacked, unlike UN peacekeepers.

Technically speaking, UN peacekeeping forces will not just allow themselves to get mowed down without response. Rules of engagement may vary, and are drafted by the security council. Typically, though, the ROE for peacekeeping forces is that they are not to fire unless fired upon.
That said, if that is the rule, that could prove a problem when facing a force that doesn't have firearms...
Also, in other news, here is the first version of Chapter 1 of my possible Gate/Vanadis crossover, which I sadly probably won't finish (real life keeps getting the way).
It had been four month since a portal had appeared in the middle of Ginza shopping district and out of it had appeared a 30-meter tall dragon. The creature had rampaged through the shopping district, killing over 3000, police sidearms proving absolutely useless.
Its reign of terror had finally been ended when a Cobra gunship was scrambled from Kisarazu and literally blew its head off with a well-placed Hellfire missile.
“Clearly the Godzilla movies overestimated their durability”, Captain Takashi Kazami thought as his Mitsubishi Type 90 main battle tank rolled through the portal, closely followed by five other tanks and five Type 89 infantry fighting vehicles, the lead element of the first JSDF… no, the first humans to enter through the portal.
Prior to this unit, only unmanned drones had ventured a few hundred meters into the Gate, reporting a Earth-like planet with a similar atmosphere of similar composition, albeit with a slightly higher levels of oxygen.
In Kazami’s opinion, five main battle tanks seemed like a little much for a recon unit- from the reports of the autopsy of that thing that came through the portal, a few Panzerfaust 3s ought to be enough to bring it down.
Clearly command wasn’t taking any chances. And besides, Japan hadn’t been in conflict since the Second World War- not like they had anything better to do with them.
As the tank rolled into the unknown territory beyond the portal, designated “Special Region” by the Japanese government, Kazami spoke into the radio,
“This is Recon Alpha-1 actual to all units. Weapons tight, engage only if attacked,”, he relayed his orders to the rest of the armored platoon, “Start gun cameras and audio logs and follow my lead, report any signs of life or habitation”.
The rest of Alpha-1, and well as Alpha-2, consisting of a platoon of IFVs and the carried infantry sounded off in short order, indicating all systems go.
“This is Capt. Kazami, 7th Armored starting audio log of initial recon sweep. Local time appears to be about 0130 hours based on lunar position- assuming similar day length to Earth”, Kazami stated, beginning the audio log, “Terrain is flat to rolling grassland, with high mountains located to the west. Lights, possibly fires sighted roughly 10 clicks due north of the Gate, moving to investigate.”
“Alpha-1 actual to all units, follow my vehicle and stay in formation. Moving to investigate possible signs of flames on the horizon”, Capt. Kazami said into the radio.
Immediately, the tank’s driver, Sgt. Matsumoto pressed down on the gas. The 1500 horsepower engine roared into action and 50-ton machine rolled forward, slowly picking up speed over the next several hundred meters.
Behind Kazami’s tank, the rest of the unit followed closely, the treads tearing trails through the grass… or technically speaking, an alien grass-like plant. After about three kilometers in, the tanks and IFVs easily forded a small stream with a few trees surrounding it.
It was not until they were about two kilometers from the flames that the source was easily apparent through the night-vision cameras. Upon seeing the source, Kazami said into the audio log.
“Source of flames sighted, appears to burning remains of some sort of small manmade structures, possibly a tent of some description. Changing course to the north-northwest to investigate.”
In within a few minutes, the tank, capable of a top speed of 70 kilometers per hour made it to the flaming structures. Kazami’s initial guess was quickly proven right. Surrounding the tank were hundreds of burning tents, and more shocking…
“Thousands of bodies, apparently human near the tents”, Kazami said into the audio log, “They appear to be dressed in medieval European armor, and armed with sword and other weapons of the period. Deploying infantry to search for survivors.”
“Itami!”, Kazami radioed the Lieutenant in charge of the infantry section, “Dismount from the IFV and search for survivors”.
“Roger”, Lt. Itami replied, “Dismounting from the vehicle now”.
Itami, if Kazami recalled correctly who was recently promoted after wounded the dragon in the Ginza incident with a shot to the eye with a police sidearm and rescued several people while off duty. From what Kazami had heard, prior to this, everyone who knew him thought he was something of a fuck-up.
Kazami’s musing on his comrade, however, where cut short the sound of shouting and expletives on the radio, and a sight Kazami never thought he would see in his life.
A force of several hundred medieval knights in full plate armor charged at the tanks with lances raised. At the head of the formation was a woman who looked no more than 20- you could scarcely call her a woman- by the 36-year old Kazami’s standards, she was really more of a girl. And to make her more unusual, she was not wearing the same armor as the rest of the formation. Instead, she wore an outfit that exposed her midriff, and was carrying a long sword, about 1.3 meters long, which seemed to glow with an unearthly light. She looked like something out of an anime.
The girl with the glowing sword swung the weapon downward. As it did, it shot out what looked like a horizontal tornado. The blast of wind impacted Alpha-2, one of the Type-90 tanks with such force that smashed the side of the vehicle and hurled it into the air like a toy, dislodging the turret and unseating the treads. The commander, who had climbed out of the turret for a better look at the situation, was killed instantly in a spray of blood.
“What the hell!”, someone yelled into the radio, as the dismounted infantry ran for cover.
“All units!”, Kazami yelled into the radio, still incredulous at what he had seen “Return fire!”
Kazami looked through the narrow viewing ports in the cupola as he felt the turret turn towards the mysterious enemy force. Immediately below and forward of him, he heard the co-axial machine gun roar to life. Tracers flew at the cavalry from the rifles of the infantry and machine guns of the vehicles, as explosions from the main armament of the vehicles tore up the ground and tore men apart.
The tank’s main gun fired off its 120mm round, sending up an explosion to the right of the mysterious woman on horseback. Her body flew through the air, never having stood a chance. Kazami almost felt sorry for her and the rest of the army, who were cut down in the storm of fire and steel.
Eleonora Viltaria
Vanadis of Leitmeritz
Dinant Plains
A few minutes earlier
Eleonora Viltaria rode on the back of her armored horse over the battlefield at Dinant, at the head of the Zchtedi army, riding away from the ruins of the Brunish camp. To her right, rode her long-time friend and second-in-command, Limalisha, a woman who was Elen’s closest confidant even before she was chosen a Vanadis or “War Maiden” of Zchted.
The battle of Dinant was a total rout. She had routed the army 25,000 Brunish soldiers with one fifth their number, launching a surprise attack in the dead of night, cutting them down almost to a man, while losing only a handful of soldiers herself.
However, there was clearly at least one survivor. Up ahead, there stood a long survivor, a man in leather armor with red hair.
Elen drew the magic longsword, Arifar, which signified her as a Vanadis and charged forth. The Brunish survivor would become her prisoner, or he would die.
Little did Elen know, the man’s name was Tigrevurmud Vorn, Earl of Alsace, and that both she and him would soon be prisoners of a nation from another world.
Suddenly, a sound like a roaring beast drowned out even the hoofbeats of her horse. Elen turned the right and spotted what looked like several great green steel boxes, which seemed to roll around on a sort of flattened chain and spit out black smoke. On the head of the creatures was a long, tubular snout.
Elen did not know what manner of creature this was, but while rare, the use of tamed dragons and other creatures in warfare was not unheard of. Elen assumed this had to be such a creature, and it definitely was not of Zchted, and was therefore… an enemy.
Elen pulled back on the reins of her horse, causing it to halt. About 100 alsin (meters) behind her, the armies of Zchted also ground to a halt.
Arifar glowed with magical energy as the it seemed summon winds which were drawn in towards the blade, causing the Vanadis’ silver hair to wave. Elen then raised the sword over her head and swung it down with a shout of Ley Admos!
The blast of magical wind blew out from the blade with greater force than the mightiest of storms, striking the nearest of the “steel beasts”. The monster was thrown into the air, as it head was separated from its body. Both head and body of the beast were partially embedded into the ground as they fell to Earth.
Emboldened by her success, Eleonora raised her sword and charged forth, followed by her army.
Then, Eleonora Viltaria discovered the had tempted the wrath of a monster. The “snouts” of the remaining green-colored beasts all turned to face the army. A great crackling sound was heard as flashes of fire erupted from the beasts, as well as strange staves wielded by soldiers that stood by their side. Arrows of fire flew towards the Zchtedi armies, too fast for even Eleonora’s superhuman speed to intercept. The fiery arrows tore through plate armor with no resistance, and even had enough force to keep going an kill the man behind him. In addition to the “fire arrows”, there also appeared to be unseen projectiles that had a similar impact.
Occasionally the snouts of the iron beasts would emit a flash of fire and a roar like thunder. Practically as soon as this happened, a great ball of flames would erupt along the Zchtedi lines, tearing men apart or throwing them through the air like ragdolls.
As over 1000 of her soldiers were slain in seconds, Elen realized she had no choice but order a retreat. If she used her power a second time, it would start to sap her strength. She doubted she could slay all of the creatures before she was struck down by whatever sorcery they wielded.
As Elen prepared to order a retreat, an explosion erupted about ten alsin from her. The blast wave struck her like a violent wind, knocking Arifar out of her hand and hurling the Vanadis from her horse and slamming her onto the ground several Alsin away.
Eleonora Viltaria,
Prisoner of War
JSDF Hospital, near Tokyo
About 24 hours later
When Eleonora Viltaria regained consciousness, the first thing Vanadis noticed was that every inch of her body hurt like it had been repeatedly struck with a mace. But she could not feel the coldness of the night air, or the rough ground of the Dinant battlefield. Instead, the ground under her back was surprisingly soft, almost the feather mattress she slept on in her room in her palace in Leitmeritz.
The opened her eyes, and was greeted by several people in bizarre clothing. Two of them, a woman and man dressed in a white blue colored clothing stood to one side. One other man wore clothing of a strange mottled green and brown color. Elen had never seen the pattern before, but from the way the man carried himself, he looked like a military officer. The fourth man wore a white short and black pants, as well as a sort of tie around his neck Elen had never seen before.
All of them were conversing in some bizarre languge Elen had never heard before. Looking around the room, Elen realized she was in a room with white walls, centered around her bed. All around her were various objects she could not identify, most of them a similar white color.
Elen had of course heard the horror stories of what Sachstein, Brune, and Muozinel had done to Vanadis they had captured in the past, stories that usually involved some excruciatingly painful method of execution- impalement, burning at the stake, drawing and quartering, preceded by brutal torture and rape.
Still, it was odd that they had given her this bed, and healed her wounds. Perhaps they intended to ransom her.
“I suppose you intend to ransom me, considering you’ve treated my wounds”, Elen said.
The man in the mottled green and brown spoke in a mysterious language, and, a second later, the man in the suit said in somewhat broken, but understandable Zchtedi, “We do not intended to ransom you, Lady Viltaria”.
At that pronouncement, Elen said defiantly as she fought the pain in every inch of her body and tried to get up, “If you wish to ravage me, I will take my own life first! You may take my life, but I will never surrender my honor!”
“Relax, Lady Viltaria, we have no intention of harming you or any of the other Zchtedi prisoners of war in any way. They will be treated humanely and released to return home upon cessation of hostilities. I would also advise you not try to get up. You still have several broken bones and other injuries that may take up to a couple weeks to heal. To be honest, you are lucky to be alive”.
Eleonora slowly collapsed back onto the bed and stared at the men in front of her for several seconds. These people could effortless cut down entire armies and even lay low the mighty Vanadis of Zchted, and yet they treated their prisoners with surprising kindness. She had not seen anything like them in her life.
And a second version, with a darker tone. WARNING: Major character deaths (Vanadis series). Also, first section (the one with the tank commander) is almost identical to the original version.
Then, Eleonora Viltaria discovered she had tempted the wrath of a monster.
As Elen prepared to order a retreat, she felt a sudden flash of pain, as though her body was being torn apart by some massive force. As quickly as it came, the pain went, and the Vanadis of Leitmeritz knew no more.
Limalisha
Leitmeritz Castle,
Leitmeritz, Zchted
Before the Battle of Dinant, Limalisha rarely drank, and on the few occasions she did, it was never more than the obligatory goblet of wine at a festival or feast. She never touched vodka or other hard liquor.
Now, however, all that had changed. Practically as soon as she returned to Leitmeritz, she immediately called for the strongest drinks they had in the castle. For the next few days, Lim had spent most of her time attempting to drown the sorrow of her lost friend in vodka and ale. Eleonora Viltaria had been not only her lady, Vanadis of Leitmeritz, but her closest friend since childhood.
She had been loved Elen like a sister- both her and Elen were orphans, they were the closest thing to family either of them had ever had. Lim had sworn she would die to protect Elen from any harm that might befall her, and yet, she had failed. Elen was dead, and Limalisha felt for the first time that she was truly alone in a cruel, uncaring, hateful world.
But there was not a drink strong enough in all of Zchted that could free her from the memories of that night. In her mind, she relived the sight of the darts of fire unleashed by those metal beasts and the mysterious men that were their masters, as they effortless struck down men by the thousands. She saw people reduced to bloody fragments of flesh and armor in flashes of flame and smoke. Finally, she saw her best friend’s broken, lifeless body hurled off her horse by some dark sorcery.
Every night thus far, Lim drank until she passed out on her bed in an attempt to bring some measure of temporary relief from the soul crushing despair. Then, every night, she would be awaken in the middle of the night, her pillow stained with tears.
And so, the cycle of despair had continued, with the wreck of a person that was once Limalisha waking yet again, with tears staining her face.
But tonight, something was different. Lim looked around her moonlit room, the room was much the same as usual. All around the room, she could see her secret collection of stuffed toys, which only Elen, who had given her many of them herself knew about. But there was something below one of the tables that held her collection that was different from before.
Propped against the wall where she usually kept her sword was a second blade, which glowed with a mystical pure white light. Even in the darkness, Lim recognized it immediately.
“Arifar?”, Limalisha said as she walked over and picked up the sword by its grip.
Immediately, the glow of the blade grew brighter, illuminating in a soft white light like moonlight, as a light breeze whirled around her, making her hair flutter in the wind.
Arifar, one of the seven legendary magic weapons, or Viralt, forged by the legendary Dragon King of Zchted, had chosen her as the next Vanadis of Leitmeritz, and bestowed its power upon her.
As though a flame had ignited in her heart, Lim felt newfound strength well in her body. She knew immediately what she had to do. She had seen it. Atop the iron beasts that killed Elen and countless others, there rode men. While upon their mounts, they could challenge even a Vanadis, but no man spent his whole life on his horse.
Even if she could not stand against them in open battle, even if Zchted itself fell, she would find the man who led the mysterious army. She would strike when he was away from his mount, and he would fall to his knees in pain and know suffering as she had, as he died upon the blade of fallen Vanadis.
Limalisha held the blade of Arifar as high as she could without touching the ceiling of the room, and declared into the night, “In the name of the gods, I Limalisha of Leitmeritz swear vengeance upon the murdering invaders!”
As she spoke, a the blade glowed bright enough to completely illuminate the room, as the breeze seemed to swirl around her, into the blade of Arifar.
But seriously, I know that pretty much from its inception, the UN Peacekeepers have been useless thanks to massive regulations due to international laws and sovereignty and blah blah blah. Good and all up until the point where you end up seeing innocent civilians being massacred and you can't do a god damn thing about it thanks to said laws. The only reason why I said UN was because it was the only group that I could think of at the moment that I submitted the idea.
Closer to truth, it would probably end up being NATO (Japan is a Global Partner in it) that would end up being apart of the fight. But we're talking about a fanfiction here, not reality.

Not sure if this is the right place for this- could also put this in music thread, but I made a random thing- I know Sabaton is the power metal band most people bring up related to Gate- i.e. AMV ideas, but here's a Gate-themed "alternate lyrics" of a song by Blind Guardian (who already sing about high fantasy themes). Might make more if anyone cares- have a few for Sabaton that could be re-lyriced in a Gate theme.
119's New Lyrics: Time Stands Still (Upon Alnus Hill)
The song is property of Blind Guardian and Orchard Music Group, Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There is property of Takumi Yanai and A-1 Pictures. This is a fan-made “re-lyric” done for my own entertainment. I am not making any profit off this, so, please don’t sue me!
Light fails at dusk
The moon is gone
And deadly the night reigns
Defeat
Finally I face the foe
for myself
Horror and madness I've seen here
For what I became a king of the lost?
Barren and lifeless the land lies
The Lion of Elbe
Strike in the night
Knowing not what he faced
Now trapped on a dark battlefield alone
Farewell to the valiant warlord
The fate of us all
The Empire will fall
When time stands still upon Alnus Hill
(repeat)
The sun is down,
Now’s the time to strike
For vengeance, WE CHARGE!
REPAY THEM WITH OUR BLADES!
Flares light the sky
As artillery roars
Like a raging storm
Proudly he charges
Challenging doom
Sword in hand he rides
Men die in fear
As the truth appears
We struck at their lands
AND NOW SHALL BE DAMNED!
The Lion of Elbe
Strike in the night
Knowing not what he faced
Now trapped on a dark battlefield alone
Farewell to the valiant warlord
The fate of us all
The Empire will fall
When time stands still upon Alnus Hill
(repeat)
The iron beasts are coming closer
Darts of fire rain down on him
Like a thunderstorm they’re crushing
Down on Elbe’s warrior king
Crushing defeat
Hopeless it seems
We tempted their rage
And now shall pay!
The Lion of Elbe
Strike in the night
Knowing not what he faced
Now trapped on a dark battlefield alone
Farewell to the valiant warlord
The fate of us all
The Empire will fall
When time stands still upon Alnus Hill
(repeat)
The warrior king’s broken
He stumble and falls
Face down in the dirt
Now barely alive
The fall of a king
The fall of a king
(repeat several times)
Have you considered being less of an ass? : D
But seriously, I know that pretty much from its inception, the UN Peacekeepers have been useless thanks to massive regulations due to international laws and sovereignty and blah blah blah.
Actually UN Peacekeepers have done a very very good job of keeping the peace where they've been deployed. The Cyprus Green Line is one example, preventing an all-out war for over forty years of serious inter-ethnic tensions between the Turks and the Greeks. Peacekeepers carry out mine-clearance operations and supervise ceasefires and the like under those pesky and bothersome international laws while respecting that national sovereignty you don't think very highly of (at least when it's not your national sovereignty being overridden or international laws that benefit your nation).
UN peacekeepers don't go in bombing and ass-kicking, slaughtering the locals, rounding them up and sexually abusing and torturing them like some gung-ho fuck yeah! countries do but that's the "peacekeeping" bit of their job description and why certain gung-ho fuck yeah! countries aren't allowed to be a major part of their peacekeeping operations.
Currently the US provides 28 soldiers, 6 non-military specialists and 44 police to the sixteen UN peacekeeping operations going on worldwide today. Fuck yeah!
Here is another good idea for fan-fiction: gate don't appear in 2000's in Japan but during WW2 in Europe.
And it causes such confusion that the 2 sides ( Axis and Allies ) make temporary alliance and invade other world.

Harry Turtledove did a series of books based on an alien invasion of Earth during WWII which resulted in the Axis and Allies uniting to fight the invaders.

Much interesting if it happens post-war.

Agreed. A war-torn Europe and/or Asia being forced to rise up after such a short amount of time; the threat of the Stalin-era Soviet Union viewing it as a chance to expand the Union once more; The British Colonies and America, the only countries to avoid the most damage in the war, being forced to pick up arms to stop another 'Hitler' so soon afterwards whilst the public most likely being against it after such horrendous acts have already occurred, tired of the bloodshed.
Or a pre-WW1 story. New technology, never seen or heard of before. Empires centuries old on the verge of a breaking point, ready to send their young men to the slaughter to satisfy their own egos and to uphold treaties made years ago. Perhaps even having the Gate as a catalyst that would kick off hostile relations; conspiracies, propaganda, espionage, etc.
