It'd be kind of random if she did...

Yeah, I'd probably put really low odds on that happening. Doesn't seem like there'd be much reason for Darkness to make her way to a Crimson Demon village at any point of this story. Not sure on the timeline of things, but would think she'd either be living at her estate or just starting her adventuring career. Not much reason to visit or cross paths with Megumin.

Which I'm fine with. This is Megumin's story. It will likely focus almost entirely on her family, classmates, and her "rival" .

Never watched anything KonoSuba before, but I've seen Megumin all over the net so I decided to give it a try. Watched the first episode of the main series as a warmup - couldn't stand Kazuma and Megumin didn't appear. Then I watched the first episode of this series - no Kazuma and Megumin was front and center. I liked that much better.

That's probably too much Megumin for me. I like the balance of the main series more.

The school segment had a feeling of "joke going on for too long".

I smiled maybe five times while watching this episode. Was neither as funny as the original nor as compelling. I liked Megumin in the original, but I'm out for this one.

Akatsuki definitely has a problem repeating the character balance of KonoSuba. Many if not most of his other series get stale quick.

I'm definitely worried about this one already.

Even with Takahashi Rie and Toyosaki Aki as the leads, I have my doubts they can carry the whole series because it is missing the critical counterbalance that the main series has.

Kazuma and Megumin aren't the comedy relief in the main series, they actually trade off as either the tsukkomi or as the earnest heart of the group. In the village (or when Yunyun appears outside of it), Megumin falls into everyone's pace and she's the one off doing the crazy things, then the balance slips.

Why would they even care about China?

The Bakuen prequel series at least didn't overstay its welcome like the main series did. A total of 3 volumes, so this should be a full adaptation. The two Zoku Bakuen volumes are set between currently unadapted KonoSuba volumes.

So China had a problem with Darkness' sexualization or something?

Darkness' VA visited Yasukuni Shrine. If you're not aware, it's a shrine that memorializes everyone who fought for the sake of Japan, with a big wall listing all of the more than a million people. Of those more than a million, a little over a thousand included are war criminals. The place has been honored a little much by the far right in Japan, as I understand, and a lot of people, especially China, have big problems with the place honoring certain individuals, and so they won't have anything to do with anyone who visited the place.

Personally, I'd ask just why they went. I mean, it's a memorial for millions of people. If it's a place that honors some of your ancestors, say, then should you really avoid it because it also memorializes some villains? Either way, she issued an apology, but the Chinese companies that fired her from various roles aren't taking her back anytime soon.

I see that Megumin and Yunyun sharing a moment that didn't always just end in Megumin bullying and intimidating Yunyun hasn't changed since their school years .

Megumin and Komekko are adorable together! But what's more adorable than a cute little cat? That's right, Chomusuke has arrived! And it turns out he was just some random cat Komekko had an epic battle with and bit and then brought home...which just about checks out for this family .

I mean, if you're going to bring a cat to school, you gotta claim it's your family, an irreplaceable part of your soul that can't be parted from you lest disaster befall everyone...and that'll convince any teacher to let you keep it .

Megumin and Arue are getting pretty chummy, though Megumin isn't the only girl who wants to be friends with Yunyun (yay Yunyun!), showing she does want to spend time with her .

I was wondering how these girls were going to wield those giant weapons...but they're just hollow. Don't kill the fantasy, Yunyun .

So training in the Crimson Demon Magic Clan means making small monsters immobile and making them just sit there while they get beat on in order to level up. I almost feel bad for the monsters. And Dokankko when Megumin was trying to make her beat up that poor crying bunny .

Who knew keeping petrified gargoyles around would be a bad idea? Gotta love how Arue was not intimidated by them though .

Bukkoroi seems like a cool and capable guy...until you realize he's a creepy stalker who tried to make a girl fall in a hole just so he could hold hands with her. Like is he really surprised the girls just straight up abandoned him in said hole? Serves him right .

Well, it's nice to see the local businessmen of the Crimson Magic Clan pitch in to clean up their own mess, look good in front of the girls, and then proceed to cause more destruction than the Gargoyles did. And the girls actually ended up buying into it (except Yunyun)! Well, it probably helps that they conveniently fixed the city overnight. Can't have the parents association be ticked at them

I see Chomusuke has now become the new Megumin in class .

The ED is pretty cute with Rie Takahashi and Aki Toyosaki singing over a very cartoony (what is this, Superjail?) and dorky illustrations of Megumin and Yunyun's daily life together and just being their crazy dumb selves .

I hope we won't spend too much time with Megumin in school. Her beginning as an adventurer should be more interesting than this. Having an anime where everyone is a chuuni is not good, especially when the only person who isn't is too shy to really do anything about it. It's just not working.

She's technically not an adventurer yet as neither she nor Yunyun have acquired any skills to fend for themselves before leaving the village. Granted, we all know Megumin is saving up for Explosion anyway, but still.

Konosuba adaptations are generally not known for their speedy pace anyway considering the main series anime took a whole season to adapt two volumes each.

Well, I'm finding the absurdity and the dumb lengths these people will go to be full Chuuni pretty amusing, though I'm curious if they're going to develop any of her classmates because nobody but Megumin, Yunyun, and Arue really stand out .

I think we can share some sympathy for poor Dodonko. At least stood out while Megumin was trying to make her bash in the skull of that poor rabbit monster .

I will say that moment really reaffirmed that Megumin is perfect for Kazuma. While I'm sure part of it was some justified fair play after she was trying to get Yunyun to do the dirty work against her will...Megumin does seem to enjoy messing with people.

Agreed that they'll need to keep working to let some of the other girls stand out. Arue has done a nice job establishing herself, but plenty of goofballs in that class to let shine as well.

I see Megumin slapping Yunyun's chest has been going on for a long time now. Also, that school nurse was a hottie .

I see the class has all embraced cat Megumin as the one true Megumin...I mean, she's actually friendly to Yunyun! Although now I just imagine they're going to keep giving her different names each episode before they land on her proper one in the finale .

Megumin is a prodigy who has read front and back pretty much every book in the library, and is very knowledgeable...but all she cares about is blowing @#$% up, no matter how impractical it is .

Whenever Megumin tries to be friends with Yunyun Funifura and Dodonko come in and just freely offer it to Yunyun with no hesitation. And, I mean, can you blame Yunyun for jumping at the first people to openly offer friendship to her? Although Yunyun being so extra about it feels like it's going to drive the other girls away .

Nothing like doing Yunyun's hair while having the most Chuuni Girl Talk about romance ever. Who needs boyfriends when you can just come up with lovers from a past life or imaginary prince charmings in your character background ?

Megumin roll! Megumin hairtie shot .

Bukkoroii continues to be a stalking creep none of the girls want anything to do with...until he ropes Megumin and Yunyun into playing wingmen for him with Soketto Should've left him buried in those books .

Although while Bukkororii is a creep, can you blame him for being so into Soketto? She's a total knockout. Of course that doesn't give him the right to turn himself invisible and sneak peak up her skirt, though I guess that plan had about as much chance of success as him trying to play "hero" to Yunyun's bad guy .

The irony that Soketto thought he was stalking her because he hated her and not because he's romantically obsessed with her. I guess she's in her own little world too .

One-Punch Bear? More like swole bears! And turns out Bukkororii has great magic...he just can't control it and ends up hitting his love interest on top of the bears. At least she didn't completely hold it against him .

Poor Bukkororii...there's no one true love in his future. Except, if Soketto doesn't appear in her own fortunes, and she seems genuinely interested in him...is there hope ?

It's so sweet to see Megumin and Yunyun walking home together, even if they do engage in a little faux-rivalry battle and just can't really admit that they're friends so easily, but anyone with eyes can see what's going on .

I hope the ending was a red herring and Bukkake will really end up all alone. Dude's a total creep... which I guess is standard in this series but still.
