Honestly I agree. The attempts to cameo the main cast in bits of the episode are honestly a distraction. They can't/won't give Kazuma and Aqua major screentime. Because they can't show up in scenes with Megumin before meeting her in Konosuba.

I think the show was at its best back in the Crimson Demon village. They were all goofballs, but they played off each other pretty well. At the very least I'd enjoy Megumin and Yunyun traveling around together. But they can't do that either since they've reached their destination to set up the original show and are just killing time until it's over.

I think it was at its best at Alcanretia with Arnes and the Axis cult.

Sorry, but Megumin needs more than Yunyun to bounce off of and someone needs to be the straight man sometimes.

Agreed. The Axis cult is hilarious, and I'm glad Cecily is back.

To be honest, I wish the whole series focused primarily on Megumin's time in the Crimson Demon Village (and if they couldn't do enough material to make a full series, go the OAV route instead). That was where most of the fun moments were IMO.

Well, it's done. The main thing this show has accomplished is make me like Yunyun even more, she was by far the highlight of the show. Otherwise, it was mostly average. Oh, I guess it did make me like Megumin a lot less, too.

It was an unnecessary spin-off. Wolbach could have been introduced in a short flashback in the main series.

Sometimes it really feels like Yunyun is the only one that actually cares about Chomusuke. She can say that she'd grown to care for her and didn't plan to give her away...but you never know with how self-serving Megumin can be. I mean, she even weaponizes admitting Yunyun is her best friend just to get her to go along with the plan to take down Host .

Did Megumin rob Cecily of all the money she came with to give Aqua ?

Ahhh...Yunyun admitting how great she thinks Megumin is and putting her to sleep so she can take down host on her own without risking Megumin. Such beautiful and sincere friendship .

It was really nice to see Yunyun being so competent and capable, she was really holding her own against Host. She was just undone by her surprise attacks doing more against Megumin than host...and Wiz kind of crewed her over by making the magic boosting potion too potent to the point of Yunyun getting effected by her own spell .

Though I guess with host paralyzed it's the perfect opportunity for Megumin to show up and dramatically end things with an Explosion...but not before revealing all of Yunyun's embarrassing "night before the final battle" lines to everybody .

Just like with Arnes, it's kind of a bummer to see Host die. He really seemed like a chill, reasonable, guy who deserved better. And Komeko even sensed his death .

Kind of cool though that Megumin wouldn't have won if her future party hadn't chipped in and fought Host off-screen .

Cecily is off to be more than just beautiful...even though that's usually what she does to get by. But hey, if she becomes skilled enough she can take over a town if she wants, which explains a lot .

Well, I guess we have the setup for the "break up" between Yunyun and Megumin, Yunyun delivers a pretty solid Crimson Magic Clan performance to let Megumin know she'll go on a journey to improve herself so she can truly stand side by side with Megumin thus separating them. It's kind of sad to see them leave each other, especially because they look so lonely, but I guess both girls can still share seeing the night sky together .

I love how Yunyun just happened to share a ride with the woman who is basically responsible for all this and has no idea .

There we go! Ending just when Megumin introduces herself to Kazuma and Aqua! We even finally get to see their faces !

Well Megumin coming up with a good plan just need to go to Wiz's shop and Yunyun using some good spells that keeps backfiring on her

7/10 Kind of wish they did the other 2 novels

The spinoff was meant to supplement Kazuma's trip to the Crimson Magic village.

At this point in the main story, all Yunyun had done in the LNs was ask for Kazuma's help to defeat Sylvia in the Crimson Magic Village, right after their trip in Alcanretia. She hadn't become a mainstay side character in Axel Town yet, so the spinoff is meant to flesh her out.
It's also meant to place more weight on Megumin's choice to let Kazuma reset her skill build at the end of the Crimson Magic Village arc, because she was originally a chuuni girl characterized as only choosing Explosion because it was cool to having much more stake behind her choice.

Wolbach is also not relevant to the main cast yet. As far as Kazuma knows, Chomusuke just shows up and they have a cat now.

Well, the show made it across the finish line .

Honestly, I do think it at least accomplished the objective of making me really like Yunyun. She was good in the main show sure, but this series makes it clear how much she's dealt with! That girl deserves good things to happen to her.

I'd say it accomplished the mission of making Megumin's obsession with explosion magic have more depth to it. But honestly think they fully accomplished that in the first few minutes of the first episode. That could have been a flashback in a regular Konosuba season and basically gotten the same job done . But hey, it still accomplished it.

Overall I think the show was fine. The first parts in the village were pretty decent. I had some good laughs at moments like the adults obliterating their own village because they were just having a great time unleashing all the crazy magic they know. There was good stuff in it.

It just wasn't quite as good as I was hoping it would be. I do like Megumin quite a bit, but she really does shine her best when surrounded by people equally as messed up as she is.

7/10

I did love that scene of Megumin stripping her PJ's off but using her leg to grab her iconic black panties .

Fun series overall, nothing incredible but still very entertaining time with my favorite character of the series. And indeed ending with a huge bonus announcement for season 3. I haven't read a ton of the LNs, but enough to have a number of things I really hope get animated, like a certain plant monster with tons of EXP, revelations about Eris, and some events surrounding Kazuma and Megumin. Can't wait.

7/10 here as well. I didn't have high expectations going in, this being a prequel and all, but it did have some nice moments and fleshed out many side characters.

I wouldn't mind a Komekko spinoff either.
