Guts opening up to the guys is kind of scary. The last time he did something like this was with the Band of the Hawk and...well, we all know what happened there.

Bloody hell, we've literally only just gotten started and people are already complaining that it's too long lol. This is a chance to finally get a perspective on Casca's thoughts and feelings and getting to the heart of her trauma. I know people're impatient, but it's better not to rush one of the most important events in the entire manga, if not THE most important.

It was meant as a joke because the size of the piece (half an eye) that was restored, was very small compared to the damage of the doll.

Nah, don't apologise, I'm sorry for replying like that. Just that I've seen people, who were serious, complaining about the pacing when it's only been a few chapters since they've entered Casca's dream.

I loved the retrospective attitude of Serpico and Guts. While I kind of dislike the slow pace, is these moments in the story that make you feel all the mayhem is worth it. Well for me at least.

The Skullknight said Casca's wish may not be the same as Guts', but given what we're seeing of her subconscious, I'm more certain than ever she'll stay by his side and support him. She is aware of how much Guts has suffered to protect her and the first memory found features him. Besides, I can't see Casca forgiving Griffith for horribly killing her comrades and raping her. Rickert didn't and he didn't even witness the Eclipse.

This is going faster than I expected. Good. Now let's hope there won't be a break right when they're about to get to the juicy part. Farnese covered Shierke's eyes to prevent her from seeing Guts and Casca having sex, she has no idea they're about to witness something far more graphic (on all levels). There's a danger they're going to get scarred themselves. Not only will they see something horrific, they will also receive Casca's feelings.

Spoiler for Berserk 348: Schierke and Farnese have gone deeper into Casca's dream, and....yeah, it's already looking grim. We finally get a deeper view into Casca and her state of mind. Her dream landscape's an incredibly harsh look into how she perceives herself and Guts; Guts as a wounded, worn-down dog (complete with the Brand) dragging her on a chain as a broken doll along in a coffin (also Branded), trying to protect her from cloaked figures. The setting is a terrible wasteland, dark clouds with a black sun and a dark tower-like figure in the background which Schierke and Farnese can't make out. Schierke + Farnese find a tiny Casca that represents a fragment of her ego inside the broken doll, which acts like her current personality (which is fitting). They don't want to separate the fragment away from the doll, because of the possible consequences. With Schierke and Farnese having an idea of the situation, Danann guides the two further into the dream, and dog-Guts and co. follow as well. It seems that they have to collect more fragments of Casca's ego in order to help her. Guessing that the tower-figure in the distance could be the God Hand altar, or a representation of the castle that Griffith long worked towards, probably littered/made up of corpses? Art is excellent. It's interesting to see that Casca, on some level, is aware of her current situation. She seems to see herself as broken, and Guts as a haggard protector burdened by her and dragging her around in a harsh world, endlessly protecting her from constant threats (the cloaks probably represent the spectres and other evil Guts fends off to protect her). If this is true, it's a horrific perception she has of herself, and it's an undeserved one too. Last edited by Ryuga; 2017-03-23 at 20:12.

Spoiler for Berserk 350: Farnese at least recognises that the feelings Casca has for Griffith mirror her own feelings for Guts, though for some reason she and Schierke aren't dwelling on (or realised?) the connection between Griffith and the two, nor the fact that he's the prophesied hawk. And this chapter confirms that Farnese knew all along about what Casca meant to Guts, but didn't want to face it (when she immediately came out of her astral projection when Guts was about to mention what Casca meant to him). Schierke and Farnese are exhausted at this point, and now that they've reached the main source of trauma, it's only about to get worse for the two of them. Man, it's looking nasty. I also didn't think that they'd collect most of the pieces in one chapter, but I suppose the main source of trauma is what counts the most, so there's not much point dwelling on all the memories. The enemies are becoming more varied and stronger, perhaps they're defence mechanisms against anyone reaching her trauma. Their shapes are also slightly reminiscent of the Apostles during the Eclipse (some even remind me of Slan), though I'm not sure whether or not it's intentional.
