ACCA 13 Ku Kansatsuka

Plot Summary:
Quote:
The kingdom of Dowa, which is subdivided into 13 states, is celebrating its monarch's 99th birthday. These thirteen states have many agencies that are controlled by the giant organization known as ACCA. Within ACCA, Jean Otis is the second-in-command of the inspection agency. His agency has 10 people placed in each of the 13 states, with a central office in the capital city. They keep track of all the activities of ACCA across the kingdom, and keep data on each state's ACCA office flowing towards the central office. Jin also often has business trips from the capital to the other districts, to check on the situation and personnel there.
Natsume Ono's manga 'ACCA 13 Ku Kansatsuka' is getting a TV anime adaptation.

Episode 1:

Pretty good episode, this was one of the shows that I anticipated the most this season.

Jean Otus has a lot of potential for characterization and I find his mysterious presence to be interesting already. The world building has a lot of potential with the districts and we got a diverse cast of characters introduced. Madhouse's visual style fits well on most parts imo for the show.

Good soundtrack as well. I can't wait for more.

Episode 01

The OP was pretty cool. And that animation in the ending sequence. Reminded me of Yuri on Ice's OP, except there wasn't any reused animation here.

So there's this federation with 13 autonomous districts overseen by ACCA. Then there's this investigation department here which oversees ACCA itself and catches corruption and other stuff going on within. This department was being shut down, but after Jean uncovered a scam regarding illegal cigarettes in one district, the decision was taken back and Jean told to make surprise visits in 6 months.

Things look like they might be like Kekkai Sensen with seemingly unrelated episodes, but there's an overarching plot here. Jean is under observation for whatever reason. There are quite some fires. There's this thing going on about cigarettes. Jean lost his lighter which is now in the hands of the guy who was tailing him. Grossler is saying something about a coup. Something big is going on while Jean roams around on his inspection trips. Gonna stay here for more.

YUSSSS. This was brilliant.

Design wise this looks great. Lots of varied and eccentric character designs, very well designed world with varied environment and good build up of atmosphere.

First of all the episode does a great job at setting up some interesting world-building. It feels like an alternate reality monarchy not-USA that reminds me abit of NBC's woefully short-lived Kings show. The show naturally establishes the class and power structure within the country and what possible problems and conflicts can come from that. And it ties nicely into the main premise of the show. The idealized nation it sets up is a well-oiled machine but not without flaws.

Through the interactions, the main character also gets a nice amount of characterization. We get a sense of his job, the pressure and the dynamics he has with the power-structure and other colorful characters. You also get a sense of his background and how his standing and stuff affects how others perceive him.

Overall it is refreshing. its refreshing to see a show exploring the cogs of teh well-oiled bureaucracy machine and the power-plays and mind-games that can go on there.

Certainly intrigued.

Well, this was mostly what I'd expected. OK visuals, nice chara designs (I like the subtle differences from the manga), nice music, nice cast, just all around pretty good. The pacing was good, too, I hope this way they'll be able to cover the entire story.

Ep 01

"Intrigued" is a great description for how I felt after the first episode as well. This really gives the feeling of a very calm ocean with sharks, sea serpents and all kinds of nasty things swimming below the surface and unknown beasts lying and watching far down in the deep.

I thought on the whole it was quite good, and will definitely check out future episodes.

Seems ok, a bit different from most this session. Going to give it three episodes.

This episode pretty much delivered what I expected it to. Introduced the setting with a nice cast and set up a potential conflict with the higher ups. They clearly have their own agendas along with their own secrets.

Although I am aware they are making Jean looking younger in anime... this really has a lot of to get used to. That young voice too...

I don't think they're trying to make him younger? It's just the difference in art. I don't think his voice is all that young either. This is a show with a mainly adult cast, they don't need to cast people like Yasumoto Hiroki for 30+ year old characters.

Jean really felt a lot younger in the anime.
Like, 10 to 20 years younger in appearance.

The same goes for his voice. When I look at the PV for the first time, it took me a couple of seconds to finally notice that man is Jean.
And today I see the real thing. Yes, I can say for sure he absolutely looks a lot younger in the anime.

It's just the difference in art. They're simplifying the original art to make it easier to animate, that usually means fewer lines and smoother designs. But I don't think he looks any particularly younger, or that he's supposed to look younger at all.

To be fair, age doesn't really matter THAT much, as far as voice actors go. Hiro Yuuki, Nozomu Sasaki, Kouki Miyata, Takeshi Kusao and Soichiro Hoshi can still play kids and shota characters, although all of them are way over 40 (and Yuuki and Kusao are over 50 already). Aside from the acting, Kusao also had a duet with Miyu Irino, and the fact that there's 20 years of difference between them isn't even noticable:
