Yeah, fair enough but that's no excuse to have poorly developed ones either. Domon/Rain, and Garoad/Tifa proved that it's possible to have well develped relationships, and still retain that Gundam-y feel.

As for the island scene, sorry, my mind is dominated by scenes of doujinshi I've read of that particular episode... where Athrun isn't exactly Mr. Nice-Person or Cagalli acts like a girl in heat when... aroused in a particular fashion...

But seriously, I always thought that particular event was the beginning of the rapport they shared between them. In a way, both Cagalli and Lacus managed to connect with both Kira and Athrun...

I think Fukuda decided to throw in the pairings after some Bandai / Sunrise management told him that fangirls were starting to tune into the show...

Yeah, that's probably all that was, no romance there.

Seriously...i think that there's more to a character being cute than just looks *looks at Mia...she does seem rather cute* Nooo....*slappes myself* mustn't get fooled....I prefer Lacus cause i kind of like her character....how she maintained that "stone attitude" in seed to give her soldiers support and only breaking down in Kira's arms.

And is it just me, or is Lacus turning into a houswife? Expect baby Kiras soon But with his mom around

A very "talkative" episode.

Basically, they show the events of the last episode again, with EA's plans foiled by the Stampeder. Narutally, all citizens of PLANT (and it looked to me like some of the Earth's coordinators as well) are very angry about this. So we see many street protests, angry discussions about war with Naturals and the such.

Meanwhile, Athrun is in Gilbert's office as they talk about the attack, nuclear weapons and the rest. Athrun whines A LOT about his father and how Patrick's legacy haunts Athrun now. Gilbert bitchslaps him (well, he doesn't, but I really wish he did) and tells him that he is he and his dad was his dad so he shouldn't sulk.

All at the same time, fake Lacus appears on the huge screens on the streets of PLANT and calms everyone down with a nice speach and a fakey version of "Fields of Hope". Athrun demands some explanation from the Chairman and Gilbert smirks a lot and says something about using a good tool or something. Then he co-opts Athrun into working for him as a "third force". They go to the hangars and see ZGMF-23S "Saviour" standing there, Phase Shift obviously down. Gilbert basically gives it to Athrun so he can solve some of the problems (like Neo and his squad) independantly from the general ZAFT forces.

Then Athrun meets fake Lacus in some lounge and she invites him to dinner.

- Apparently, she knows she is a fake and introduces herself as "Mia Campbell", but asks Athrun to keep it a secret.

- She is a huge Lacus-fangirl, which I've found hilarious. She likes Athrun a lot too, apparently because real Lacus was his fiancee.

- Athrun is rather cold to her, even when she is all genki and chipper. This makes Mia sad, but she is still annoyingly genki.

Pretty much it.

Next episode preview had random images - EA rearming, Unato plotting against Cagalli, Neo talking with the Earth Trio in the cockpit of some MA (or MS), probably Exus. Some Athrun and Minerva.

mia campbell better not steal cagalli's fiancee...athrun gave her da ring!! they're engaged god dammit...

Yup, especially considering SEED is now more like an idol romance show than a Gundam-y show. SEED has arguably the most time in a Gundam show focused on the character relationship development, yet it still ends up a mess...

If you believe that... still too early to call what her and Gilbert's goals really are; maybe they're telling the truth, maybe not.

If the Chairman has another agenda I doubt that Mia knows about it, she's probably the "tragic victim" that's being used by him if that's the case but anything could happen.
