Karaoke Competition VII
Get Ready, Set, GOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
Finally! The next karaoke competition is out! Time to make some people's life miserable while trying to record! What the whole thing is about short version: gather a couple of songs that other people sing and broadcast it over shoutcast so others can listen and vote for their favorite. And of course, torrent it for those who missed the broadcast. You don't have to be a forum member to participate; any one can as long as they follow the rules. This is a karaoke competition: we want to listen to your voice, not your "skills" on how good you can make a song with special effects (if you don't know what karaoke means, look it up). The rules are almost the same as last time, but to refresh our memories, here they are. Rules -Anime OP/ED, character Songs, Game songs are allowed as well. If you're not sure, ask me first. -Please use the karaoke versions. If you can't find it but know that it exists, let me know and we'll see what it can be done. If there are no karaoke version available and you still want to do that song, then either strip the vocals or sing over the song. NOTE: Your voice HAS TO BE louder than the song itself for obvious reasons. -Full-length songs only. *new* -Song has to be recorded in one take. Meaning, no cut and paste!! *new* -The final product can be in mp3, ogg, or wav. Just make sure the quality is somewhat decent so we can hear your voice. -The song doesn't have to be in japanese. If an english version of that song exists, you can sing that one. As far as I know, there are songs in latin, korean, english, russian, italian, spanish, german, and many others. So you're not limited to japanese only. -NO EFFECTS OF ANY KIND. Meaning, no echo, double-voice, harmonies, pitch-tweaking, no special effects of any kind. Unless there are two melody lines (or the melody is more like a harmony), don't even try it. In fact, ask me first before trying. -This time, I will allow songs that are not in their original pitch. Just let me know to what key it was changed to when you submit your entry. -Only 1 entry per contestant. You may change your entry to something else if you find a better song/recording until the deadline. -Submit your entries on http://karacom.animesuki.info. If there are problems with the site, let me know. -DEADLINE: April 21st, 2007 Midnight EST. (I think by know everywhere where they practice summer time has their clocks set, so hopefully we don't have to deal with that...) Broadcast date and time will be announced as the deadline approaches. And of course, there will be prizes for the best entries and so on (yes, I actually mail stuff; just ask the previous winners). Depending on how many enter this time, judging/broadcasting/prizes will change significantly. If you have any questions, you can reach me through pm, irc (kcl822/Kestra@zirc.org), AIM (kcl822), or email (kcl822@gmail.com). Happy singing~ Shoutcast info! For the high-quality (somewhat) one: 128kbps http://88.198.134.110:8000/listen.pls For those who have no bandwidth: 48kbps http://hamsterx.homelinux.org:8000/

So sure, why not. Just don't overdo it. Which means... 2 should be enough? Or 3? Hum... guess it depends on how many sends non-competing entries... I hate math.

Yay yay, another karacomp~~~ hopefully I can do better than 37th this time!
Does anyone like Makoto Shinkai? (The Place Promised in our Early Days, 5cm) I purchased the single that's featured in his latest game work (ef), with the intention of doing the theme song for this event. Unfortunately, I sound beyond terrible, as the song is quite difficult and is way out of my vocal range. However, I know there is a powerful female singer out there who could perform this superbly. Don't have a song yet and want a challenge? PM me and give this a try! (Edit: Someone has taken it! Who? Wait and see!) Movie [short]: http://youtube.com/watch?v=CvNlpnM79n4 Lyrics and translation: http://www.neechin.net/article/40/ly...ternal-feather *wonders what basket meant with the FF reference* FF7 was the most influential game in the series. I have a question on mixing that maybe someone can help me with...
For some reason I can only get my mic to record mono. It was a pretty expensive mic, so that doesn't make sense to me. But I've given up trying to figure it out, so now I'd like to know what I can do as far as mixing to make it sound stereo. I know I can duplicate the track and change the pan settings to go out of opposite speakers, but it still doesn't sound quite right. -_- Suggestions? |

In the Sound control panel, there should be an option for how many channels the microphone should use. I think that could be it ^^;;;
Alternately, check the recording settings in whichever program you're using (maybe someone can help if you tell them what program it is). |

I'll assume you're using Audacity, just because:
Edit Menu, Preferences Audio I/O tab Recording Channels: 1 (Mono) Usually it's the recording program settings. And... I'm probably not singing... unless I can stop breaking windows.

@llama,
Only few microphones (often used for video cameras), have true stereo capability (even expensivve ones are often mono-mics, because a single point stereo mic usually cannot provide a good stereo recording... a good stereo recording needs some distance between two recording devices - mics). I suppose the best you can get out of it, is replicated mono (2 channel mono = stereo). Three things are necessary for true stereo: a) the soundcard (or other inputdevice) has to accept stereo (not every soundcard has stereo microphone support) b) the microphone has to support stereo (or you have to use 2, which is the best way to get true stereo) c) settings in the recording software have to be set right.
