Not surprising, HxH is well-known work among Shota circle and Fushoji circles. Yoshihiro Togashi's work usually have strong fan representation in those two group. Heck, I remember not too long ago, earlier this year, there was a Japanese poll on best manga tsundere girls and Hiei somehow not only manage a vote he was ranked in top ten.....

It's kind of funny, the same fan boys who claim HxH is by far the best Shonen manga and other current shonens are crap tend to ignore that a good portion of Togashi's fanbase are women and girls, the demo-graph they often happens to hate the most among ACG fandom.

I can see it getting moved to a different slot if this continues, which wouldn't be a bad thing when the Yorkshin arc roles around.

More like lots of manly and gar male characters. They aren't necessarily handsome, but they have to be awesome in some capacity.

Anyway a lot of people were down on Gundam Age's ratings, but looking at where it is it looks like it's doing okay. To tie an established shonen franchise like Naruto out of the gate and to only be beaten by other far more popular established kids franchises is not to bad at all.

I am kind of amused that if I was in Japan I would be represented in the highest bracket. I definitely did not expect that

Although I am definitely not into Shouta or Fujoshi.

edit: Sad to see Chihayafuru's ratings fall so much though.

Gundam AGE ep 2 generated a 4.4% rating, up from ep 1's 3.6%. Now this is in-line with Gundam 00's average ratings (ep 2 of 00 Second Season actually generated the exact same rating). I wonder if there was a special that aired at the same time as AGE that took away viewers? Also, AGE doesn't seem to be bringing in the new generation as Sunrise and Bandai had hoped, as only 1.0% of kids watched Gundam AGE ep 2. The bulk of the ratings is still coming from Gundam's traditional 29-40 male demographic.

So am I understanding this correctly that Chihayafuru's 1'st week is a 2.2 then it drops to a 1.1 and now it's back to a 2.2 again?

That's a major fall and then jump again. Was something else competing against it during its second week? Well I am glad to see the ratings climb up again.

Now I know 2.2 is nothing amazing but it's not bad for this type of show I think.

Yeah, those late night ratings hardly correlate with what sells. Factors like existing fanbases, seiyuus/writers/directors involved and merchandise backing are more relevant.

So from what Westlo is saying, the male 20-34 age group is getting the most response for Gundam AGE while the 4-19 range is about equivalent with 20-34 females? Sounds like their hopes to get a younger generation interested aren't working. That said, that age group don't part with their cash much via their parents. It would be amusing if that 20-34 age group fuelled enough sales to make the project worthwhile.

Actually, in Chihayafuru's case I believe they do. Chihayafuru airs on NTV's late night anime slot which Kaiji held last season. It's like noitaminA in that despite being a late night slot they still factor in ratings when considering how successful a show was.

Do you know what other animes beside those two have aired on that slot? (Maybe Akagi and One outs?) And what were Kaiji's ratings?I don't remember seeing them in this thread.

Yes, Akagi did as well. Death Note also aired on the slot. Kimi ni Todoke did as well. Rainbow is another that comes to mind. IIRC Kaiji scored 2-3% in ratings on average.

Anyway, Gundam AGE's 3rd episode generated a rating of 2.5%...for reference, Gundam 00 Second Season's lowest rating was 3.0% for episode 4. And this time it only managed to bring in 0.4% of kids, down from 1.0% for ep 2, which itself was down 1.6% from ep 1. I think it's too early to say it's a failure, but given these abysmal ratings (by Gundam standards) and how piss poor the first disc volume is selling on Amazon despite being heavily discounted, it's certainly looking like one. I feel kind of sorry for Hino...but I do have to wonder who at Bandai allowed this to happen.

I just noticed how dominant Destiny's rating in 13-19 was. I mean, knew it was one of the reason the show was considered a hot bed for chunibyo but man, that is scary....

But AGE does look like it's not doing too hot..

So AGE has made something of a comeback with eps 4 and 5. Ep 4 generated a rating of 4.1%, and ep 5 generated a rating of 4.8% and made it into the top 10 anime ratings for the week. Would be nice if that stability would stay. That said, I bet those ratings are still coming from 29-40 year old males and kids still aren't watching it.
