[Anime] Episode 44: Hohenheim of Light

Looks like this could be a pivotal episode, focussing on the mysterious return of Papa Elric at critical time for Ed and Al. They're heading back to Risembool to 'locate' something of their dear beloved Mother in the battle ahead against the Humonculus. The boys seem to have an ally with Colonel Mustang though, who has come clean about the fate of Winry's parents.But just how can the Flame Alchemist take on the entire army lead by the ever vigilant Fuhrer King Bradley?

Then there's Lyra, former wannabe alchemist and crockery mechanic, who seems to have become a leading player in the events at Lior since the mysterious death of Dante. Who is she really and what is she up to in Central with Roze? And Lust, what will become of her now Pride's turned her into a human kebab? And just where is Envy?

Could this be the episode where we finally learn the identitiy of the Master?

Personal take on the above:

The boys have 2 ways to go with having a lot of power:

1 Get their bodies back
2 They clean up their mistake or their mommy will do more than spank them

Looking at their efforts so far it seems they are going for option 2.

And the series ending will probably see Al's body being recovered using the stone. Ed's arm we'll probably see dealt with in the 2005 movie

Hoehenheim said to Al that if he wants his body back he can but will need to take back something of equal value, and in this case his mother's life. Ed takes her mother's bone so we know he's ready to kill sloth, but does he have the heart to kill her own mother?

No... Hohenheim of Light is correct. Dante does call him "Hikari no Hoehenheim."

Lyra saying Hohenheim's body is almost reaching its limit. Doesn't this mean he is similar to Dante in that he can transfer his soul to another body?

Holy hell, what an important episode...

...Dante is Lyra...Dante is the Master...Lyra's body is rotting...yeuw.

That explains the smell which Ed remarked on previously. He knows that smell. He's experienced it before when Trisha's HT failed so horribly. Hohenheim, it seems, has extended his life and shares this secret with Dante. He knows Dante and that she can use body transfer. But Dante's body transfer method isn't successful which is why Lyra is slowly rotting. But Hohenheim may have the answer but can he trust Dante? Nah, look at those eyes...

The army of Als Hohenheim used to defeat Dante's own was a neat touch.

Gluttony was utterly useless. Someone kill him soon and give the airtime to someone else.

The other major development was Ed and Al finally learning about Hughes's death from Scieska of all people. I get the impression Ed would have beaten the crap out ot Roy if he'd still been at the Rockbells. He was a bit harsh on Winry about it though.

My only complaint is the scene where Ed retrieves a bone from Trisha's grave. I imagined it would be heart-breaking, if not near impossible, for Ed to do that. Instead he tackled it quite easily, though he did apologise to her for the desecration. Sloth's time is up me thinks.

Okay, where the hell is Envy? His absense is just too suspicious, who could he be masquerading as?

So next ep, Roy vs the Fuhrer? Lyra vs Hohenheim? We saw a quite flash of the Gate, and those creepy hands reaching out. Could someone be being delivered to the Gate or a new Humonculus being created? Hmm...

Maria Ross just gets cuter in each episode...

A few scenes that were interesting:

Gluttony rolling away after Hohenheim creates the icicles.

In the 5th laboratory arc, where Ed reacts to the red water, he mutters "mother" when Maria was hugging him. Now in this ep, it seems to me that she was quite taken by Hohenheim (only saw the raw). If Hohenheim lives through the series, is there possibility for remarriage? :P

I think Ed knew it was necessary to take a part of Trisha to kill off Sloth, and that mourning over it again would only make it harder to do both of these tasks.

Hohenheim does not need an array, and quite possibly Dante as well...

Actually, Hohenheim of (the) Light was correct... grammatically anyways. Like, Kodomo no omocha... is toy of child or child's toy. Hikaru no go is: go of Hikaru or Hikaru's Go. Hikari no Hohenheim would be Hohenheim of Light or Light's Hohenheim.

Anybody else surprised when Hohenheim found his way to the Homonculus hideout? for that brief second I thought omfg... Lyla *and* Hohenheim are siding with the Homonculus. But then I remembered how shocked he was when Dante's name was mentioned.

Why did Dante bring Roze to the Homonculus? Someone speculated they might use the baby's body... but why her baby?

First off, a question for people more versed than Japanese than myself:

Hohenheim mentions something about King Bradley being created in the 5th laboratory. Does this mean that King Bradley died at some point and Hohenheim ressurected him for the sake of the country? That might explain why he had those human transmutation plans lying around and why he can perform circle-less alchemy

A new Greed will be created. Perhaps there is a connection with Rose and her baby.

Ah I get. "Hikaru no Go" is "Go of Hikaru" or "Hikaru's Go" this is because both "Hikaru" and "Go" is a noun in which it becomes reversed in English.

has anyone wondered if envy cood be ROSS??...or her partner?...the blonde hair dude with the bandaid on his nose???...it's jus weird to me...how wood ross kno mustang was comin after them...unless pride tol envy...and envy posed as ross....???!?!??..sum1 back me UP!!!!!!!!!!
