There's many explanations for why the real Ryota isn't there. Maybe he's in a different year, maybe he already graduated. Maybe something more plot relevant, we just don't know.

We do know that the Ultimate Imposter is always a fat guy, so there's that.

So the future arc is the serious one with the red blood and the depression, but the despair arc we KNOW will end badly and is the lighthearted one.

I have a very bad and depressing feeling on how this series will go.

Junko's portrayal in the OP is pretty interesting. I hope her backstory is finally explained because AFAIK it hasn't been revealed yet how she became the first Despair

While I am not entirely uninterested, I feel there's also a very good chance that she was just an unhinged person to begin with.

It was explained in the first game. She was born like that.

Chiaki is fun to watch in this series, surprisingly I find this more exciting to watch compared to the Mirai arc so far. And more lighthearted too.

Every main character so far has had their pasts fleshed out to some extent except her though.

Speaking of Chiaki, what the hell is she doing there? I feel like they're just trying to shoehorn her in cause of her popularity.

Just because the Chiaki in DR2 wasn't real doesn't mean she wasn't based in a real person, that's what the fandom is speculating.

I've had some doubts about this now that we've seen this episode. It was always declared, and therefore we assumed, that the imposter is a fat guy. Ryota Mitarai being absent from the rest of the 77th for the whole semester is easily explained by him being shut in and animating the entire time, but at the same time doesn't it make sense for a shut-in animator in an anime to be a fat guy? Just as well, there are some similarities between Ryota's supposed morals and SDR2 "Byakuya."

I'm not saying that Danganronpa is pulling another fast one on us here, but I wouldn't put it past these authors to write some kind of crazy double-imposter scenario. Rather, they seem to have a habit of writing a story where things are not what they appear to be.

That's a stretch in any regard. For all we know Chiaki had been a member of the 77th class the whole time during the creation of SDR2, and the authors withheld the knowledge specifically because she was meant to be a major device in the backstory of the 77th. It's possible that they just wanted to include Chiaki too, and they did write her in for the fans, but they'll almost certainly give her a solid purpose. Either way, it looks like a win-win to me.

What if Despair Arc is Precuel because they explain the past but this is also simultaneous with the Future Arc because they are treating the remains of despair?

I think that there is going to be a moment where Future Arc and Despair Arc join together.

Only Kodaka knows.

Probably when they reveal that Chisa is in truth just another despair, or Enoshima Junko herself. (Yes I still stick with my survival theory)

About Chiaki in SDR2 being a legit AI or not... I think there's little doubt about that because she hints at it herself. At the end of the Last Trial she repeatedly states she CANNOT reveal anything about Future Foundation. She mentions it's something about her very nature. At that point I thought at first she was a robot (the Sea King factory was producing female humanoid robots as well). Then ofc with the VR revelation that meant she had to be simply software. But that's the only thing that makes sense - she couldn't say more about FF because she was programmed that way. Otherwise there really was no reason to withhold information.
