More like brother-brother relationship. Even if Ginko doesn't wants it, Yaichi already got conditioned to not see her as anything beyond that.
Isn't uncommon, childhoodfriends also suffer of the same "disease".

Not to mention it didn't really sound like she was saying "you can't play and you can't pursue shogi period". It was more the level of commitment she was giving to the profession. The only exception is if she can be proven to have incredible talent and potential that truly does stand a good chance of propelling her to the highest ranks. And the only evidence they have of this is the word of a single sixteen-year-old boy who has absolutely no experience working with developing students. The requirement may have been a little severe, but for the level of risk involved it's understandable that the mother would demand some seriously persuasive evidence.

I actually would agree with Ai's mother if she doesn't set the ridiculous order of beating 3 pros. From parent's side, I am agree that letting your child into a professional player is not an easy choice, and being unstable job is true but she clearly speak of this demand while not understand the level of the players involved, basically using the amateur view to determined the ability of the pros, 6 or 7 dan holder is practically impossible to beat by amateur even with luck.

The other reason is Ai's age, the thing is, as we get older, our choices is more and more limited, she's only 9, she has chance to actually try things out, and her family is capable of allowing this much. I would wholeheartedly agree with her if Ai is, let's say, 17 or 18. All she would accomplished is killing any passion from the girl in any of her future dream. Well, my point is more favour on Ai and Yaichi, since I encounted similar problem during my college where my parents demand me to go to business school and I was in a serious case of having suicide tendency in that time.

Amazing episode, tension was constant from the beginning to the ending, 20 minutes barely seems 5. Ai personality is very well done.

5/5

We can stop discussing here.
The mother's demand is not little severe.
It is out right ridiculous and unfair.

Anyone with some basic knowledge on how the pro-field works would know how close to impossible for armature to beat a pro.

Don't really buy the way the show is trying to tell me how good Ai is.

Well, that was a little predictable, but still intense. I sort of had a feeling that we'd have something like this, with Ai crushing her first two opponents and then being defeated in her last match. And given her personality, it was inevitable that with an overwhelming opponent she'd fight tooth and nail, savagely ripping at her opponent to the point where some respect is gained.

And yeah, while placing a crazy demand to allow her to take an apprenticeship across the country would be somewhat understandable, it IS slightly unreasonable to tell her she can't continue to pursue the game at all.

Either way, I liked Ai's reaction after the conditions were set and he was allowed to take her on. I can't help but wonder whether a little bit of that wag was for the suggestion of marriage to him though.

I feel bad for Ai tbh. Her mother is way too harsh on her, a complete contrast to the father after witnessing that match.

Also, Ginko is starting to remind me a bit of Shinobu from Chihayafuru...

Yeah, hopefully that changes a little. I mean, they played 50k games since they were little kids, have respect for each other and both love Shogi insanely. If Yaichi wasn't so scared of Ginko, they would make a good couple. Anybody else thought that Ai-chan's butt wagging implied she wouldn't mind having no title in the end if it meant her master ending up as her husband? XD

50000 games lol! that's like 10 hours a day every day for 10 years straight.

Ai's mother makes a bit more sense now. She's a time traveler from some past century.

wow looks like the "creep" lolicon ships is sailing, that first minutes with her asking a "token of lucky from him" and mc brushing..., while the shoku part looks interesting the "pedobear part" keep creeping me a lot, specially since she is a 9 years old, not just a "teenage" or even close, really the "drop feelings" is strog here for me, i'm really not fan of that "sort of show".

A new arc starts next week and new characters will be introduced.
A new Ai too.
But who is better among the two?
Ai or Ai?

I heard that Red Ai is much better than Blue Ai, so far I only know Blue Ai so I keep my vote till I know what's the deal with Red Ai.
