There are three factions, each of whom has a COMPLETELY different theory about the phenomenon that is Haruhi ... some of ya'll are mixing them together.

From the Data point of view, they've always been around and Haruhi is just a datafield anomoly.... from the timetravel view, she's a locking kink on spacetime that prevents them from going more than 3 years prior like they used to. .... from the esper point of view, its impossible to tell wtf is happening for all they know she created the universe and the false memories before it 3 years ago - all they can do is mitigate any reality shifts she might generate (let sleeping gods lie).

Itsuki only said that the world might be created only 3 years ago. He's uncertain of it. Only thing certain is, Haruhi is god-like.

Correct... all the theories may be all facets of the same "jewel" (re: The Many Faces of God by Campbell) or just reflections on the cave wall from the firelight.

I'm almost surprised one of my favorite Arthur C. Clarke proverbs isn't in the OP background text and equations drifting around (paraphrase):

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

Just imagine someone awakened from only 200 years ago (hell, 100 years ago) and they'll awaken to a world of Pandemonium, full of demonic forces, witchcraft, people conversing with unseen voices, music from hell,

Actually... I could collar the average Joe Moron on the street today and most of the technologies around them are "magic".

I don't see any relationship or connection but apparently Media Factory is pulling some fanboy chains and causing confusion with that property. I'm not sure we can generalize from Media Factory's antics.

a.f.k. is *really* rolling them out like a factory... very impressive. I haven't seen this level of consistent release... well I'm not sure I've ever seen this reliable a release schedule.

Its the power of Haruhi-sama and a.f.k. are definitely devoted Haruhists.

Also people who always vote 1 for the episodes are just trying to moderate the poll, Haruhi-sama influence pressurised them too much.

The fighting scene in this episode is just down right godly. Asakura's shield reminded me of the Lamabda driver's shield in FMP though.

There's still Koizumi's esper powers and the blue giant to be shown, so Melancholy will take another two episodes (Haruhi's episode 5 and 6) Next episode, "The Day of Sagittarius", is designated by Haruhi as episode 13. This leaves two more episodes 11 and 12. As the school festival occurs just before "The Day of Sagittarius", I believe the first episode (Asahina Mikuru's Adventure Episode 00) is actually Haruhi's episode 12, as there's too much stuff in volume 2, which chronicles the making of the movie, to squeeze them into one or two episodes, so I reckon volume 2 will be reserved for the second series. This leaves us with two events from the novels that occurs between "Lone Island Syndrome" (episode 9 and 10) and the school festival.
