(L) Tales of Zestiria the Cross Anticipation

Per ANN:

Bandai Namco Entertainment revealed at the "Tales of Festival 2015" event in Tokyo on Sunday that the Tales of video game franchise is getting a new television anime in 2016. The studio ufotable is producing Tales of 20th Anniversary Animation.

Not much is known about it, but it's a "TV Animation" Project and it may or may not be related to Zestiria. As such, the topic title is temporary until more information is available.

Somehow, this news doesn't surprise me. Ufotable being quite busy these past few months with their projects.

Erm. Isn't it was cleared that project will be Tales of Zestiria TV-series? Although there are hints that anime will be a sequel to the game instead of adaptation. And, BTW, there is Tales of... subforum. Ask mods to reopen it and move topic there.

I figured it'd be Zestiria, but the official announcement online isn't as clear. Just like Alisha, right?

Apparently the event announced it as a Zestiria anime project, though.

Huh...certainly wasn't expecting this. I mean, I'm happy for a new Tales anime and all, but I'm kinda surprised that it's Zesteria related considering the controversy and reception to the game .

Or maybe this anime is meant as a response to that in some ways ?

Still, a new Tales animation is always welcome and Ufotable working on it speaks for itself .

It'll definitely be interesting to see what the anime is exactly, whether it's an actual adaption, a continuation from the game, or a full-on remake that actually has Alisha as the Main Heroine. I did notice that there was an original character after the montage of the party, and a certain party member being in it implies that it's not a continuation...

Honestly, would have preferred something similar to a crossover anime for 20th anniversary. Not too keen on this.

Update: The animeanime.jp website initially reported that the anime is an adaptation of Tales of Zestiria, but it updated its article so that it only states that it is an adaptation of the Tales of franchise. Bandai Namco Entertainment also characterizes the anime as a Tales of project, and not an adaptation of Tales of Zestiria specifically.

So after they make a promo video that is quite specficially focused on Zestiria with the only other Tales series in it being UFOTable's other Tales animation, now suddenly they say it's not about Zestiria?

I wonder if there was a bad Japanese fan backlash over the Zestiria anime that made Bamco reconsider their choice in title to make into the next Tales anime. They've shown that a bad enough backlash can make them second-guess themselves when they made the Alisha after story DLC free to try and control the fan-hate over it.

I'd be all up for a Tales Of anthology series anime .

Even if I know that's likely not to be the case, especially with the major focus on Ufotables work with the franchise in the teaser and the primary Zesteria focus at the end. Would be hilarious though, if a little sad, if Ufotable and Bamco completely changed what they intended to do with the anime after the Zesteria controversy .

So it's going to be titled "Tales of Zestira the X" for the TV anime adaptation coming 2016.

Actually, in the katakana under the English title there, it says the title is "the Cross." Sometimes in Japan they use an X to symbolize "cross."

tales of zestiria... I haven't played the game yet so I don't know on what to feel for it. But if I have extra cash I would get it. still ufotable doing this and heaven's feel. hmmm >_> well I don't have much expectation on any fate. They are things of the past for me.
