Logically only Souta and Nanami should be, because they were the only ones whose actual minds were in the virtual world, but it seems that The Power of Love™ or Friendship™ or Manliness™ or Fairy Dust™ or Plot Convenience™ has somehow allowed the others to gain the memories of their virtual world counterparts as well, judging from Akane's reaction when Souta saved her at the end.

What I mean is their status in life like:
Hakua - half sister of Nanami
Akane - Daughter of a business tycon
Ruri - Robot
etc.

Well, well, well! I enjoyed the ending ep much more than I thought.

To be honest I found myself able to follow a lot of the explanation until Sacrament and LaplaceDemon showed up in the tree sitting side by side and being quite satisfied with how things turned out. That was the only head scratcher, as I thought they were comp apps. But after thinking about it both of them met up with Souta on the boat before the life threatening accident as well....

And so the only thing I can think of is that they are somehow some kind of independent deity like apps that somehow acquired self awareness, have taken on some kind of "semi-neutral observer" role in trying to make sense of their newfound awareness, and that are close to the Bladefields and their country's comp servers and somehow send avatars over the globe that only Souta can see? Or something?

Totally a guess there, of course, and works good enough for a temp solution for me. Everything else made sense to me, though, and made for a very nice ending to a delightful and very interesting series for me.

Definitely my biggest surprise of the Spring 2014 season.

So at the end Akane didn't remember him but said you saved me 'Again'.

And why are Sakura and the evil twin in the real world?

I thought he's now back at real life, until those two, Sacrament, and Laplace are sitting at the tree branch. It got me confused.

I love how Souta is hugging Akane after being saved.

Also, I wonder if Ruri is human in the real world.

Yeah, same here! And also, should Ryukishibara be a real old lady instead of a loli in the real world? C'mon, she should be all grown up.

I heard the LN was still ongoing... does that mean the ending was anime-original?

Well, I can see that Hoods Entertainment made an original ending for Gaworare in my opinion.

It can be an original ending.
I wish we could have this kind of original ending more often.

Actually before Sacrament and Laplace(box) Demon appeared in real world. I already scratch the back of my head when they show ancestor Kaguya as young as Nanami.

how old is the kingdom?

heck, setting aside the problems for the episode.

I'm loving the ending.

They really end the story here and probably won't even plan to extend it.

But its a nice and fulfilling ending with Akane as main heroine Go Girl!

Though its kinda funny when the things that happen in virtual reality is happening in reality bit by bit in the last part.

I don't know about "sense". This isn't hard SF, it doesn't run on tight plot. It runs on warm and fuzzy (and comedy), and the ending provided.

I came in, thinking it would be another harem hijinks show with the occasional fanservice, but I got much more out of it than I expected, so yeah, definitely a nice surprise. I'd have to rewatch it to make sense of the plot, but it delivered nonetheless, so I'm satisfied.

Wow, crazy finish.
Big surprise of a series this season.

Had a really fulfilling harem cast where I actually enjoy every girl, and then the crazy plot developments.

But still a bit confused, especially when it back on the boat, and half the girls were there, but everyone was the age they are at present, so the flashback of Souta as a kid on the boat was all fake?

So all this time, the series was a virtual world? And it was all a simulator Souta was in while he was unconscious? Similar to Matrix/Assassins Creed series?

Then he woke up, and its the real real world, and all the girls in this world just happened to be used as class placements in the virtual world?

I do acknowledge that most harem anime need a gimmick to set them apart from all the other harem series out there, but this one's gimmick wasn't as tightly packed plotwise compared to others.

but then again, since this season had brynhildr, I'm using that as a sort of baseline on what a harem series should contain as a minimum, and compared to that this series is a masterpiece

I will not forget how that imouto finally taught me the meaning of moe, and for that alone I give this series an 8/10.

The girls are based on real life people or rather the virtual world is a mirror image of the real world.

The part where every girls happen to be under class placement as him is anime original thing.

True the anime manage to animate most novel material but vol 9 ended up with Souta waking in hospital coma and Sacrament welcoming him in the real world and saying this is the beginning in finding the truth behind the world.

So the part where he goes back to dorm quest and meeting Akane and the repeat of events that happen in earlier episode are anime original.

Nanami being his sister in real world is also sketchy or rather we don't know there aren't english summary for vol 8-9. Only moonrunes.

But there is an illustration of Okiku crying while Souta waking up in hospital.

Its not Kaguya the first one who sees him waking.

And its also not Nanami which first visited him.

Unless confirmed in the novel. I'm still not sure on what's from the novel and what's anime original.

This show is a nice twist on the harem genre. It started as generic harem show then changed itself into something unique (for this genre)in the later eps.

I'm gonna miss this show and alll girls in it. Oh, don't worry Souta, I won't forget about you.
