Might've been more interesting and difficult if they'd done it with the original characters "אמת", especially since the characters are written right-to-left, meaning you need to remove the "last" character. |

Wow, Satoooo's harem just grew 9 more (8 cute homunculi and one Mia) in one episode. Amazing.
The backstory of Zen is also kinda sad; some noble taking away his wife (who's a Princess Liltiena) and killing him. I wonder if we'll hear more about that. |

The director did it again... "abstract story-telling with weird color patterns", which looks more like something you'd expect form Shaft, rather than Death March. Though to be honest it didn't feel nearly as impactful as it did with Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry.
But the imagry of Satou running from salt... it feels like the salt represents all the haters of the series for some reason... "GET IT AXED!" they screamed, but Satou prevailed, and still has 3 more episodes to go... for now at least.

I agree in general. But this is one occasion where I don't really mind how much they skipped, especially in the tower. Part of the charm of this series is its ability to come across as slice of life in spite of demon-lord-level dangers, with things happening that by all counts should lead to epic quests but his biggest concern is how to clean up without casualties and without letting on to the fact that he's so strong an Ancient Dragon wouldn't be much of a fight. Making quick work of him helps maintain that image, as does the biggest problem being the discovery that he was a load-bearing boss.

OK, that ending is a bit weird. Are we supposed to know where that ruin is and who that voice is, who says "we'll always be together"? Also, what really caught my attention was the "To Be Continued" at the end. If I recall correctly, this is the first time it stated a "To Be Continued" at the end of an episode. Is there a meaning to that?
As of this episode, his harem is complete, as far as what's shown in the ED. Also, I find it funny that for a guy who doesn't like slavery, Satou is the master of probably the largest number of slaves in the story seen thus far by a long shot (including the homonculi). Not only that, they're all females. I'm sure people will think something about that in that world. And finally, that scene with Zena felt very strange, maybe even awkward in a way. I'm not sure what the director is trying to do, but the chemistry with Zena is probably one of the weakest in the story thus far. It's like puppy love with a guy who doesn't care, but only puts up appearances to fall in-line with the script.

I had been thinking that this was a mostly harmless example of the genre but something had increasingly been nagging at me about it. And this episode helped me realize what had been bothering me about this show. Satou is placing his desire to keep a low profile over the well being of the people around him. All through the show but especially in the last two episodes he has been leaving people in mortal danger while he dithers about a way to help them without showing his true power.
At the very least he needs to tell his girls that he much higher then level one and he has reasons why he does not want it known. That would free him up around them and let them cover for him when he needs to do something. |

As for slavery the anime has skipped over all the discussion about it. Spoiler for skipped info:
The homunculi are not slaves they are serving under there own will. Zena's issues may have more to do with both general changes in the story going from the web novel to light novel to anime. I know some of her scenes were cut down. Glad they at least showed enough of Mia kissing Satou on the forehead to know it happened as it is a plot point later on and makes up for not explaining just why Lulu wasn't feeling well a few episodes ago was about. Spoiler for why she wasn't feeling well:

Ah, thanks for the explanations, kagato3.
LOL Yeah, I was wondering what was going on with Lulu, and I can understand why the director decided not to put something like this in. At first, I thought she had some sort of sexually transmitted disease, since the way they were acting at the beginning, it seems like she had been forced to do this type of "service" before. However, your explanation makes it seem like she hasn't, which makes her undressing at the beginning seem even more confusing.

True. And if I recall correctly, the anime did touch on the points kagato3 brings up.

Just a clarification for those who misunderstood it:
The voice that was saying "we'll always be together" while the camera showed some ruins that look like some Japanese temple gates was NOT Zena. I am just saying this, since appearently quite a few people made that mistake. If you compare the voices, you'll notice that they are different.

The three golems he fought on the top floor of the Cradle didn't have the activating word conveniently engraved on their foreheads so he couldn't deal with them the same way he did with the first lesser golem he ran into lower down.

Hmm... Judging by the flashback Satou knew a goddess when he was younger, who fell in love with him and deemed reincarnation insufficient to bridge the difference in their lifespans. Only divine intervention can solve this, and she feels if it's him then... Well, I'm guessing we now know how he wound up where he is.
Also, while I know it's not significant, I was disappointed they cut the bit before Tama and he went for the deer. Tama's cold determination to redeem herself would've been fun to watch. |
