I haven't actually read anything in this thread but I'd have to agree with the title. Something like the fire village or the tiger village would sound so much stronger.

I will definitely like to be underestimated..Did I mention, that's the reason Kabuto is my favorite character?

Wind - is mighty. Sand - never disappears completely.
Mist - is great to hide in and mysterious. Water is deadly.
Lightening is powerful and cloud is great to hide in also.
Earth/Stone - Earth appears to be strong name also. Takes a lot to break a rock.
Sound- Not much can escape sound.
but
FIRE/Leaf: I'm confused. Fire and leafs really don't go together seeing as people burn leaves to get rid of them.

I just don't see the connection. Is there some vast history I'm missing to explain this?
Pathyfinder, did you foresee the posts that will follow? Pretty complicated, no?

well, i was going to say that some of you were reading way too far into this, but Jackl
has a strong point. i've studied japonese a little and Hunter is right about their literal and figurative ways of consructing words. though, i wonder how close the translation in the manga might be...

I knew other fans would have more insight into this.... but to know it would of been a brief lesson in Japanese if fine with me also! Just thinking (after watching 57 raw) that it's a great thing these giant frogs are on the Ninja's side. They could trash a village before they turn up frog legs! I'd like to understand the fire/leaf connection also

leaf village?

I guess it's kind of true that leaf village seems pretty weak but what else are we going to call it? big strong treeleaf village? Plus isn't it technically called the vilage hided in the leaves. Now that title seems more appropriate for a ninja village.

You do know that you replied to an 3 years old post huh?

Anyway the Leaf is 1 of the strongest villages in Naruto...
The Leaf Village had the greatests shinobi and still has world famous shinobi (Copy Ninja Kakashi, Sannin)

The greatest fighters and enemies so far are from the leaf...Uchiha Itachi, Orochimaru, Kabuto

None of the "hidden villages" seem to be particularly hidden, honestly...

It is a pretty weak name if you ask me, in English at least. But they don't seem hidden at all

couldn't it just have been a coincidence that the they decided to found the hidden leaf village in the fire country? I'ld say the fire country is misnamed personally, because I haven't seen any scorched wastelands or volcanoes. It's all forests.

that has a much more "ninja-esque" feel to it. I think everyone should start refering to ninja villages like that.

Well, Fire Country is a big chunk of land, there could well be volcanoes elsewhere...

So what? Who cares how old the post is!
Anyway Leaf village is a cool name if you ask me.
Sand village is still the best in my book though.

Well, for not been your own language, you sure understand them both very well..^^

Either way, Regarding Te Hidden Lead Name, I think is not about if the name represent something strong or not, rather that what it represents in Konoha History, We know that the 1st was the one who founded Konoha…and His jutsu are directly Tied at Threes (Those life forms that have Leafs….)..So it is normal to be called like that…. and three itself represents Life, so I think more or less the meaning of the Name for the people of this village, I think the concentration technique Iruka had with the leaf has something to do with it also!

Yeah but it's better the way it is now...how would we want it then?

Leaf => Tree?
Mist => Dew?
Grass => Soccer Field/Seed?
Stone/Rock => Grand Canyon/Clay?
Sand => Desert/Sahara?
Waterfall => Niagra Falls/Bubble?
Cloud => Hurricane?

I'd say its good the way it is..
We got used to it already..

I can understand the logic of most of the names of the villages, but:

How do you hide a village in sound?
