Plot Summary

The story is about a teenage boy who happens to be a shogi master. One day, a nine-year-old girl turns up at his house, announcing that she will take him as her disciple. From there, all kinds of wacky hijinks ensue.

Ryuuou no Oshigoto! is getting a TV anime adaptation. This series has won awards before in the past. (most noticeably this: Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! ranking in the best light novel category in 2017.)

Episode 1:

I got what I had expected from the episode.

Cute characters, shogi, awkward moments, comedy, etc. It stayed true to its premise pretty well so far in terms of storytelling. I like Ginko so far with her cool personality and presence in the series. Ai is also quite a cute girl. Not a fan of that Yaichi guy though except for his shogi skills.

First episode pretty much sets up for more storytelling to come later. I expect more shogi matches and maybe even some characterization about the main characters.

I heard good things about the light novels before so curious to see how they will do the rest of this season.

Loved it, naturally. Made it pretty clear real quick that that little girl is a literal demon when it comes to shogi. I'm pretty sure that intensity would scare the most hardened kishi out there.

The fanservice and cute scenes were also quite fun. This girl took little time becoming extremely possessive of her new master. I'm sure there'll be a lot of scenes with her trying to push away anyone who she thinks might try to "take him away", or take her from him. What I wonder though is whether he'll be portrayed developing a gradual romance with the loli, or the 14-year-old SM "sister". I'm sure both do and/or will want him, at the least, along with at least a few more characters I'll bet.

Additionally, I feel like it must take some real commitment to your chuuni to realize that a 9-year-old is totally into it and not feel just a bit like you could change a few things.

I think most nine-year-old girls would not appear in the nude before a teen-aged boy. There are enough older girls to sexualize, so I hope they lay off this trope in the weeks ahead. I much preferred the portrayal of the sibling-like relationship between Murasaki-chan and Shinkarou in Kurenai even when they visited the public baths, and both were nude. It seemed much less exploitative than the scene here.

Is shougi experiencing a renaissance of sorts currently in Japan? Until 3-gatsu no Lion I had only seen Shion no Ou as a portrayal of shougi, but now we have another entry. In contrast, I haven't seen any shows about Go since Hikaru.

Decent start, but I hope the lay off the whole sexualizing little girls thing in the future. I'm sure there are other ways to show that Ai is possessive.

Other than that the characters seem nice. I;m curious to see where Yaichi and Ai's relationship hoes from here. Ginko seems cool enough, and I do want to see her do more than just hit Yaichi.

I don't know. I've known a few girls who didn't care at nine. I even knew a few girls who had to be reminded to shut the door at eleven. And we're talking about Japan here. At nine a girl can walk into the men's bath and no one's going to stop her. They might ask where her father/brother is if she seems to be alone, but that's about it. It's not something that can be said of every girl, but it's not something that'd be terribly surprising. At least not if we're talking about a girl being naked in front of someone she's decided to trust. Anyway, the scene didn't really feel "exploitative" to me. Didn't feel like they were trying to portray her as someone to be found sexually attractive. Instead, it just felt like an "oh crap" sort of thing. She's too young to get excited about, but she's still old enough that many people would call the cops in an instant, so her lack of inhibition is a seriously troublesome thing. You can have "accidental pervert" stuff without the object being legitimately treated as a sexual being. You just need her to be someone you might suspect someone of seeing as one.

And yeah, I'd noticed that too. We need more Go series, spread the love; especially since I like and understand Go and have yet to grasp even the most basic strategy in shogi. But either way, it's been made pretty clear lately that shogi is a very deep game that can lend itself well to storytelling.

It's bad enough when fifteen-year-old boys fall on top of fully-clothed classmates and end up with their faces between the girls' breasts or looking directly at their panties. (These are the sorts of scenes that remind me that most anime viewers are adolescents.) Falling on top of a naked nine-year-old pushes the envelope for me.

Okay, putting aside the guy, the girl is a super genius that also knows about SM...
but also doesn't realize what it means to stand naked in front of a guy?
Uh-huh.

Well, for better or for worse, there really isn't much else today anyways.
Hopefully, they will drop the sports(???) part of the anime and just spend 24 minutes of lolis naked in his room or something.

well i really hope like others this anime don't just turn in a "pedobear bait with the loli appearing naked and some "perv lucky accidents here, this really don't looks like a serie where it's looks like "right to have", i can be "fine" with ecchi shows that sort of things happening but on series like that a "little more serious" try to attract /pandering that sort of "group" i really feel not being good

Becarefull with that "it's japan" trap, many peoples normally like to use it to explain some 'anime bad behavious" but in truth this is not "really accurace whem comes to "real life" not all the little girls (at last 9 years) will be walking naked like that in japan for sure, while this can happen in some rare cases this is really not true to japan, is the same peoples start to say which "because you have a lot of "incest animes" incest in japan is "common" which is not true( while they compared to others countries does have a "more high case of it happening" overal still much lower than what animes portrait most of the times), the same goes for trops like "guys fallen over girls breasts and bla bla bla, if we take every crap which happen in animes to say "which this is normal" them japan could already be the "hell in earth" or a Sodom and Gomorrah on earth, most of the times are just common "otaku troops" which is just a wishfull thing since this really don't happen in real life or don't happen so often and easy as anime make it's look, not all family will allow a 9 years old girl living with a "stranger biy teen" just because he is a pro shogu, this is just against laws and others things.

I'm not saying which some of the troops really don't happen in japan in real life but they are not so "easy and common as anime make it's looks, they are in most of the times exaggerations or wishfull things and you can't really scream "it's japan" as if every little girl walk naked in home like that.
