What is rather weird is that Li's knightmare can hurt the pilot because the knightmare is too powerful. (I guess because of the speed and such)

But the new guren is even more powerful

Correct. It should not have persisted after he was clear of the Guren. His life was no longer in immediate danger. After the grunt rushed him with a knife, the equivalent would be if he flipped him, threw him to the ground, and started beating him up.
