But you can't visualize the scope of how bad Ozpin is just from it. Show, not tell is always better to have a bigger impact of it. Otherwise Raven just sounded like she was being selfish, mind you she still is a little but you can understand why she refuse to follow Ozpin any longer.

His lack of trust may be understandable, but it isn't right. Team RWBY has fought through thick and thin, willingly risking their own lives for the greater good. They may betray Ozpin like Lionheart. They may not. No one can predict the future. Not even Jinn. The present it what matters now and Team RWBY is giving Ozpin their full support. They deserve answers. He was probably saving the questions for emergencies when Salem was winning. Quote:

Episode 3 preview
This video almost suggests that... Ozpin might be Salem's father. Also based on her situation at the time some viewers have drawn parallels to Rapunzel or possibly even Danae, the mother of Perseus.

Okay, so the Week (and a Half) Late Train rolls into the station, finally!
Well, RWBY is back for Season 6. And right away, I feel like the animation has made a noticeable step forward. I especially like Ruby. I love her in the train station, particularly in that clip that was shown as a preview to the season a few weeks back. I'm glad that they're starting off on a decent foot with respect to comedy, but there's definitely still the ominous overone that I think you can expect... as long as they don't totally abandon that and go back to the end of Season 3 where there was just nothing but darkness. The transportation director in me wants to know how the heck they operate such a long train profitably, particularly considering it's terrible revenue-space density. But, anyway, it was an interesting first fight for the season. I actually kinda like how they split the episode with the fight to start and then flashback to the station before coming back to the fight. That was a nice touch. I didn't quite get why Sun and Neptune were leaving. So, they're going to get their team back together...? And was the way that Blake and Sun departed supposed to imply that they're also not to be romantically linked anymore....? I know some posters (well, singular) who probably loved that. Was Blake helping Yang with her bag more about Blake's guilt regarding Yang's arm or something else? The old woman has a Maz Kanata feel to her. I'm guessing that's intentional. Anyway, I forgot my other thoughts. I took some time during work earlier to watch the episode, and I'm doing this off memory 6.5 hours later. Hopefully the Week Late Train will be marginally more on-time for Episode 2!

Volume 6 Episode 3.
I... uh... wow... so much to process... 1. A pair of gods that remind me more of fickle gods of mythology than what you would call benevolent. They abandon Remnant, wreck its moon, warning of one day coming back to judge humanity with either existence or eradication. 2. So Salem is cursed with both spiritual and corporeal immortality due to the sin of hubris, also intending to steer humanity away from whatever the twin gods intended. 3. Oz, on the other hand, has reincarnating spiritual immortality, tasked with preparing humanity to pass its final judgement. 4. They have 4 daughters, which are likely the maiden precursors, before Salem straight up murdered her entire family. Except Oz, because he just reincarnates. 5. So in all this time it's been nothing but cycling lives of suffering for Oz as he tries to fix everything Salem has essentially done to doom their planet. I take back almost everything I would have otherwise said about Oz. He got dealt the shittiest hand of it all and it is almost perfectly understandable why he does what he does. His situation is more a curse now than a mission, watching Salem completely lose it, probably killed their family, most likely killed him a few cycles already, all without him being able to do a damn thing to stop it. How many cycles have these two been at it? Given everything they've been through I'm more surprised Oz isn't more of a raging alcoholic than Qrow. Salem is literally the personification of hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. This is a fucking tragedy born from two people twisted and turned by their situations. Salem wants to control humanity away from the Gods, likely dooming them to annihilation UNLESS her goal is for humanity to fight and defeat their creators. Oz OTOH is trying to unite humanity to survive judgement day. These two are on opposite sides of the coin despite being lovers at one point. I could even argue that, perhaps, Salem and Oz still love each other despite all this.

Who wants to bet Djin specifically meant Ozpin couldn't kill Salem?

Yeah.
"How do I destroy Salem?" "You can't." (emphasis mine) Try "how can Salem be destroyed" or perhaps "How can Salem be stopped from dooming mankind?" Killing Salem may not be the answer, since that, in and of itself, is conflict and destruction: the very thing the god of light said needed to stop. Although I would find it amusing if the answer were to take the curse of immortality literally: "So long as this world turns, you will walk its face." So... stop the planet's rotation?

Well, the Week Late Plus Two Days Train rolls into the station for Episode 2.
Damn. I'm irked that the early speculation about the hooded character in the intro was wrong. I was so hoping that it would be Neo, though there was only Roman's hat to give that a chance. I did notice in the intro for the first time (I always watch it) that the left arm of the character was wrapped up or at least unnatural. Then it turns out to be Cinder with he arm wrapped to avoid attracting too much attention. Oh well. Still disappointed, but at least the mystery is gone. And... the gangster in Haven is supposed to be some southern mistress, basically? Laying it on thick there with the accent. I'll be eager to see who the heck this Maz Kanata-like woman is eventually. I'm sure there's a point to her. The absolute highlights of this episode were Nora sticking her tongue out at Oz and Qrow looking away from Jinn when he realized she was naked. Those two moments were pure gold! Was interested to see Team RWBY (well, really WBY) flinch when Qrow took a step forward. I get that they are a team and would do anything for Ruby, but still seemed marginally odd to me that they'd do that, particularly Yang, since Qrow is her uncle. Yes, last season made for a lot of uncertainty for Yang in relation to her mother and uncle, but still didn't expect quite that reaction. Anyway, looking forward to next week when I get to see this big explanation about Oz and Salem that people are describing above.

I feel for Ozpin but I think in his defensiveness he's been making a lot of enemies.
I still have very little empathy for Raven. She's not a very great person. But Ozpin's behavior didn't do their situation any favors. |

Volume 6 Episode 4.
Oz... bails. He just bails, or should I say locks himself inside Oscars mind. Faced with his secret coming out and all but admitting that he doesn't have a goddamn clue how to deal with Salem, he locks himself up inside while everyone, even Qrow who knocks the jeebus out of him, starts to question him and his secrecy. That's... a lot of pent up hate Salem has for Oz there... but now everyone on the antagonist side knows Cinder is still alive. So the group bunch up for the night in an old abandoned farm. I'm betting next episode will be about them trying to get their bearings straight given what just transpired.

I know I'm pretty late to the party, but I thought I'd give my thoughts on volume 6 so far. I was very cautiously optimistic going into this volume (and still am) since V5 sucked so much. However, so far its been pretty good, especially with the latest episode.
Chapter one was decent. I don't think its the best premiere episode like many do. My favorite is still the very first episode. V4 had a good premiere as well. I'm one of the few who enjoys the geist battle. But the episode is still one of the best premieres. It was well-placed with a good action scene with some cool looking grim, though it wasn't amazing like some praise it to be. Those manticore grim die pretty easily given their size. It's like one hit and they shatter like glass. I like the intro, but again it isn't my favorite. That's still the V2 intro. The second episode is even better. It presents some good tension with Team RWBY finally calling out Oz on his secrecy. We finally learn what the relic of knowledge does. Jinn is a cool new character. I like the design, though the name is a bit on the nose. The best episode yet is chapter 3. I'd say this is easily one of the best episodes of RWBY if not the best so far. It's a beautiful episode, and the music was on-point. It gives long overdue answers on not just Salem and Ozpin's origins, but the relics, the gods, and even how the moon got shattered. However, despite all the exposition it's still Salem and Ozpin's story (mainly Salem's) which is a good thing. Everything stems from a character place, which makes it more fulfilling than just someone spouting exposition, like V5 did. I especially like how the gods were more fleshed out in this story. I haven't the latest episode, but from what I hear its a cool down episode. This is fine, but I hope the volume doesn't lose its momentum going forward, like V5. Remember, the first few episodes of V5 were pretty decent, and it had a good momentum going, but then after chapter 5 it was just a downhill spiral from there. Hopefully that doesn't happen here. From the intro we still have the long-awaited revelation of the silver eyes from Maria to look forward to, which is what I've been most anticipating. After chapter 3 I'm even more hyped about it, because it might actually be good. No matter what, Ruby has to progress as a character this volume. That is a requirement. Everything else could be great, but if they screw that up then this volume will still suck as far as I'm concerned. She needs to have a character arc, and one that's actually good like Ren's (who sadly has the most fully realized character arc thus far). It can't be insanely rushed or just poorly throughout like the WBY arcs have been. |

OZPIN DID NOTHING WRONG! Really kids, I get that you're angry, but did you even watch that story? He's the greatest victim of this whole mess. He did nothing to deserve it, but the weight of the whole fucking world has been thrown on top of him anyway, and just what, exactly, do you expect him to do?
Yang has gotten so hair-triggered these days. So quick to judge and blame, so slow to accept and forgive. I understand why she's changed, but I still miss cheerful thrillseeker Yang from the early volumes. Oh sure, let's rest for the night in the creepy abandoned farm out of a horror movie in the middle of a blizzard. I'm sure everything will be totally fine and nothing whatsoever will go wrong while you all brood over your negativity in a place like that. Yeah.
