(CR) Saki Achiga-hen: Episode of Side-A (anime)

I'm halfway through rewatching the first series of Saki, and, wow, is it so entertaining. I think a lot of the difference between the original series and this side story has to do with the animation company. Gonzo was producing the original series, and you can tell their fingerprints are all over the place in that series.

I'm still holding out hope for this series, but so far, it is disconcerting when held against the original.

Indeed. The specialized play of Kiyosumi should make them rather solid on their side. Yet, at this point, I have no clue on the capabilities on their opponents at all.

One of the monsters listed in the original series was Kagoshima's Jindai. Considering she is in Kiyosumi's bracket, we can expect a tough battle.

Well, I'm hoping to see surprises coming up in the next round.

Actually, Achiga-hen is made by the same people as Saki . Studio Gokumi is the reincarnation of Gonzo.

Gonzo still has been producing shows since Studio Gokumi was founded in 2010, although I've heard Gonzo has been having problems on their end. However, I do admit that I do not know much about Studio Gokumi. Did they split from Gonzo, seeing that Gonzo is still around, even if barely breathing?

To add in detail.They used to be Gonzo#5 ,one of Gonzo studio,who did first season of Saki. (well, half of it since another studio took over the later half)

For me the most miracle thing is: Shizuno turned on the T.V. at the right time and saw Nodoka in that day. If that didn't happen, Shizuno won't call Ako and change her decision to attend Bansei. She won't go to club room and meet with Kuro. New Achiga Mahjong club will not happen. Yuu will never get recruited. Arata won't play Mahjong again. Akado will meet no one in club room when she return......and go on.

Since 2009, Gonzo give birth to 8-something studios that were split from it : it's consisted of Studio Gokumi, Hoods Entertainment, David Production, Graphinica and that's what I think.

For some reason, I'm craving for TACOS right now.

I think mahjong competitions in the original Saki are more intense since we get to see different characters showing off their powers, but here, we only seen Kuro's power so far. I guess that's what you get from side story anyway since it shouldn't be allowed to overtake the main story. Next episode is where we will be getting more mahjong action, at least from what I've heard. Although, if you're refering heavy implied yuri as Former Genzo's fingerprint, I have to agreed on that aspect. Actually, I would like to see more yuri on A-side as well, but it seemed there isn't as much pairing as the original casts.

Yes I agree with all your pairing, but it still less compare to the main story due to smaller set of cast. Larger cast equals more yuri in this case.

Never knew Saki is that much taller than Shizuno. Compared to the original Saki cast, Saki looks rather short.

Ryuuka x Toki pair alone is enough to save this show. They are even better than most of pair in the main series. (Yeah, I'm Ryuuka x Toki fanboy!!!)
