Geez, this pisses me off. Hughes is one of my favorite characters on the whole darn show. It didn't matter to me when Basque Grand was killed cuz I thought he was a jackass, but Hughes is totally different. I wouldn't have minded it if it was later on in the series,but for them to kill him off so early on?wtf! Couldn't they have killed that muscular freak dude instead?I loved Hughes's humor and character cuz of what he brought to FMA. I really hope Roy,Ed and the others get revenge for this. The only other thing that could suck even more than this is if they kill of Al, Winry,Alysia, or mustang's assistant girl. Maybe its me,but doesn't it seem like they keep killing off the characters who are in Central? Next thing ya know those 2 bodyguards and muscle guy will end up dead. Oh well, enough of my ranting.

The anime's being realistic, as unfortunate as it is. People die. I definitely don't want Mustang, Hawkeye, the two bodyguards, Armstrong, or any of the other characters to die but who knows...

It is very ironic that Hughes saw his wife (one of the homolucus) right before his death. The scene where Hughes wave his hand to Ed at the very end was very sad.

Commodore? Hughes is not in the navy, sir. He's in the landlubber outfit. His rank is Lieutenant Colonel at ep13. If he was promoted twice for dying in the line of duty, he would be Brigadier.

Maes Hughes -

He is one of my favourite characters. Why? He's a great man in general. Some people might not be able to take his humor, but he's doing this just to relieve the stress and the tense atmosphere. When he really needs to be serious, he is. He's a kind, loving person. There are too many examples to show that. He loves his daugther, his wife, his family. He cares for MUSTANG a lot and in particular the Elric Brothers. In Ep25, just when he realized what really happened, he told his assistant girl to return everything and fire her and tell her to STAY away as far as she can. He doesn't want any innocent ppl involved in it. He's smart and intelligent (figures out what really happened). In addition, despite his lack of knowledge in alchemy, he is a good fighter. He managed to "kill" 2 Humon Clus...I mean, he wasn't weak. Sad that in the end, he got killed by someone non-human, namely humon clus...in the end, it was real sad to see him die. He is the perfect guy. I like him the most...he's someone I want to be like. Salutes Hughes..

Current name: Juliet Douglas. Cover up! Real name: Sloth. Homunculus... Also the one who started the Isshuvaru War by 'accidentedly' killing a kid. So they are implying the Sins started the War.

Roy researched and almost performed human alchemy before. But like his attempted suicide, he did not have the guts to go through with it. Instead his intelligence spurred him to aim for the Fuhrer's position instead and change things from within (I was right!). Hughes concurred and aims to support his buddy. Mr macho guy trying to cover up his tears with "It is raining" on a sunny day.

Now we know who his nemesis is. Kimberly! For those who feared Scar is going soft, he has an arm and a head to show to you this episode.

They told Hughes and gang that they are going to find Izumi but actually they are running off to find clues elsewhere. Now we know what would happen to kids who tell lies eh? It would come back to haunt them (ep27) *muhahaha*

The ending of ep25 is handled differently from the rest of the others (even different from Nina's episode).

I will say that right off that I was actually eagerly anticipating and wishing for this to happen ever since I read it in the manga. Since I was unsure how much they would change the anime from the manga, I wanted Hughes to die, die, die! I wanted them to show it and punch me in the heart *ouch*. The thing I like about the manga is that it showed a world not rosy and peachy for our protaganists. I would not like the anime to turn out otherwise. *ouch* Darn them for making Alicia cry in the cemetary. *ouch* They really know how to punch the heart. *ouch*
