Okay, while Kirino forcing Kyousuke to salvage the situation was predictable, Ayase's behavior is... errr, completely unexpected?
Color me surprised for the sort of "yangire" reaction when the Kosaka siblings were trying to run away. It was... sort of similar to Rena's "嘘だ!" if you ask me.

That said, it doesn't mean I was impressed by that. To be honest, the mood and the "dramatization" with the rain were a bit over the top for this franchise. It is hard to to relate with the content we had in the previous episodes. When Ayase raised her voice, it almost looked like a catfight between 2 girls over the same guy so
But seriously, with the crap Kirino was doing in this episode, I just can't help but hope there will be even less screentime for her.

In any case, the whole deal was really exaggerated, and it almost looked like some matter involving life and death, to the point it looked even more serious than what happened with gend... err daddy.
Ayase being so superficial with the news and all makes me wonder how elaborate such friendship was... well you can argue that it is sort of representative of what Japanese society may feel about that, but the execution was really way too much, focused solely on a single incident, hardly convincing on a prospect for a "best friend".

At least, Kirino acted on her own for once, but I can't say this saves the boat, considering how half baked the issue was to begin with. And it just turned into a... "very special" kind of resolution...or was it?

Very well said! I for one knew a little about Ayase's reaction to this based on the ED's lyrics. I think it gave away a good portion of how you saw it. Still the way Ayase reacted was not mature at all at first. I personally would go with her resolution of it that might be mature slightly but do wonder what you think about that.

Also Kyousuke is going to be depended on, since this episode he does again a lot for Kirino.

Anyway an okay episode, not much to enjoy here, except to understand that the episode reflects the true story that most otaku around the world would face when it comes to choosing either friendship or own hobby. I kinda guessed before hand that Ayase too is goin to be an otaku haters, but her opinion and understanding about it was led by reports made by journalist whom happened to be an otaku haters too. Well, youngsters anyway, still need to understand more about the credibility of the source whether it is reporting the truth or just being biased, and have strong opinion on matters without relying on just reports, news and journals.

Ayase learned that Kirino is an otaku, and decided to no longer be a friend to her, which somehow sadden Kirino. But good thing for Kirino to have a kind brother that is Arashiyama Gorou Kousaka Kyousuke. Funny how Kyousuke once again diverting all the faults to himself again, by indirectly showing the bad effects of otaku stuffs. Implying that he and Kirino realized their love for each other when they read the book with hentai stuffs on it, and he loudly and clearly declares that he is in love with Kirino, which obviously made Ayase disgusts with him.

AS PLANNED <--- yea he may not be as cool as Light when he said that after watching Ayase taking Kirino away from him, but its fine, i'll consider it as cool

Well in the end, all well ends well. Kirino and Ayase were finally on good terms again, while Kyousuke got himself a death warning from Ayase.

Next episode - My childhood friend can't be this cute? Manami?

Agreeing with Klashikari, I felt the main problem with the episode was that everything was just so over-exaggerated...
Especially the part where Kirino came in and they started the entire screaming fight... I was left ( O_O)... but not in a good meaning. I wonder if the scene would have worked if they did it a different way, but this (short) arc ended up being rather poor.

And... They finished an entire volume in two episodes?
From the pattern from the previous arc.

And another thing I didn't really like was that everything was pretty much the exact same pattern as last time, just swapping the dad with a friend, which to be honest, is a lot less convincing than a family member. The sister causes problems, gives Brother a bad attitude, and the brother goes and sacrifices himself for his sister.
To be honest, Ayase was annoying (less than Kirino though), but Brother isn't any less annoying.
And anything Kirino suffered from really felt like Just Desserts for the way she treats her surrounding people. So no sympathy there.

Sandbag Brother really turns into a sandbag this episode (where he got hit). Ouch at the balls... (>_>)


I guess the most enjoyable part of this episode was the very beginning, where Ayase does a slight facial distortion over Kirino running away.

Also, I wonder if Kirino meant it or not, but apparently, Ayase is on the level of eroge.
That's pretty mean.

Also, I just had to think about it, but:
Ayase: What's in the bag?
Word: Naka ni Dare mo Imasen yo...


Anyways, I hope the next arc does better.

Sorry, I have to disagree with Klashikari and s_b, I'm _very_ happy with the conversion ... it's not quite easy to watch in some spots, but I absolutely love how they executed it. I guess you might be underestimating the impact of "otaku against 'normal' Japanese society" some, but I can perfectly understand their strong reactions. Keep in mind, essentially Ayase was denying Kirino's existence in a way...

Aaah, Kyousuke, I hope that the karma points you're accumulating will someday be redeemed in your favor. You're going WAY beyond what's normal for a brother, and the rewards from Kirino are so completely insufficient yet. Most painful "Keikaku doori" ever.

Oh, and I need to commend Hayami Saori's VA performance as Ayase. I thought she was amazing, and she has just jumped on my shortlist of "seiyuus to watch".

Hmm, this seems kind of repetitive. I can't see the practical difference between this and the last arc. If he resolves everything the same way then it's not interesting anymore.

Getting kicked in the balls was totally overboard.. lol. Still, enjoyable episode in any case. But the anime is going ridiculously fast in regards to the novel.

They seem to have omitted the last exchange between Kyousuke and Kirino as well.. I am disappoint.

I just realized they cut to so much things from the novels. Sigh, I hate anime mediums sometimes.

Which friend was that? Manami? I think it was good they did because he got a good authority in the whole thing as in being a cop that actually had the report to convince anyone that the news got things wrong.

Wow, they're really trying to cover as much ground in 1 cour as possible. There are a few cuts that make me a bit unhappy; I feel it made Kyousuke too confrontational to Kirino and Ayase too much in denial mode.

Although it'll probably make the ramblings even longer if they included this content, I felt I needed to jump to Ayase(-tan~)'s defense. Ayase isn't just against otaku-culture because she read a few articles. If she was, she'll be like "ew..." and stop there. Ayase's mom is part of the Big Bad PTA, and a local PTA president at that. Ayase also mentions that when she helped her mother organize PTA rallies, which also include anti-otaku talks.

In other words, Ayase is like the daughter of a big shot Tea Partier. No amount of convincing will really win her over. She's probably coming from the doujinshi=kiddie p0rn angle.

The characterization felt superficial and over-exaggerated because it was rushed. So definitely agree with serenade_beta and Klashikari there, it's the way it was presented, so it's not surprising that people react to it in such a manner. Anyone else happy with it is just defensing or ignorant.

But the original source didn't play out completely like that, and it had more events that helped lead up to the resolution and the stances of the respective characters so the reader could understand more where they were coming from, which AIC clearly cut out in interest of time (what are they rushing for, I still don't understand).

So assuming what you said she is for Tokyo loli ban then? Too bad she does not realize the 2D does not = to 3D. I am assuming she must also against violent games like Doom or Wolfstein 3D?

Indeed I would be totally grateful if there was uncensor in the DVD/Bluray, of course that would be nearly impossible
I find it funny that kyousuke went back to his father to do all the research for kirino, his father's initial reaction was amusing.

I actually do feel bad for Kyousuke here as well having to go through all these punishments, and warnings to keep Kirino on the good side of everyone else. I'm just surprised that he can keep on going with being a nice brother to Kirino...

I'm actually more interested in what the next episode will be about. I wonder if it will cover the chapters omitted from volume 2 or the anime just might steamroll through the original source and stop somewhere midway and do a second season..
