Denkigai no Honya-san

There's already been a drama CD (starring Ohsaka Ryouta - but then that's 50% of new series these days).

Quote:
The "youthful bookstore comedy" revolves around the folks who work in a manga book shop deep in a certain "Electric Town" neighborhood. ("Denki-Gai" or "Electric Town" is a popular name for shopping areas that specialize or used to specialize in electric and electronic items, like Tokyo's Akihabara.) The protagonist Umio works part-time at the manga store "BOOKS Umanohone" along with his senior at work (but not in age) Hiotan. As many dedicated manga fans visit the store, there is always something going on.
Doesn't look half-bad - the manga seems to be pretty well-regarded.

At least post a link to the announcement.

The June issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Flapper magazine is announcing on Friday that a television anime adaptation of Asato Mizu's Denki-Gai no Honya-san (Electric Town Bookstore Worker) manga has been green-lit. The anime will premiere this fall, and future issues of the magazine will have more details on the anime.

The "youthful bookstore comedy" revolves around the folks who work in a manga shop deep in a certain "Electric Town" neighborhood. ("Denki-Gai" or "Electric Town" is a popular name for shopping areas that specialize or used to specialize in electric and electronic items, like Tokyo's Akihabara.) The protagonist Umio works part-time at "BOOKS Umanohone" along with his senior at work (but not in age) Hiotan. As many dedicated manga fans visit the store, there is always something going on.

The manga inspired a drama CD that the real-life bookstore chain Comic Toranoana sold last year. The CD starred Ryota Ohsaka (The Devil is a Part-Timer!, Nagi no Asukara) as Umio, Natsumi Takamori (Pretty Rhythm Dear My Future, Bodacious Space Pirates) as Hiotan, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Sword Art Online, The IDOLM@STER) as Kantoku (a male employee at the store), Minami Tsuda (Pretty Rhythm Dear My Future, Wake Up, Girls!) as Sensei (a female employee aiming to become a manga creator), and Tomokazu Sugita (Gintama, Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii) as Sommelier (a male employee who is very versed in manga knowledge).

Mizu launched the manga in Monthly Comic Flapper in 2011, and Kadokawa's Media Factory will ship the seventh compiled volume in Japan on May 23.

Haha, oh this show....

I think I'll stay around to see where this goes since it makes fun of its characters and premise. That ED song is also catchy.

Ep 01

Well ... not so bad, I guess. Kinda light hearted, fluffy fun with a fanservicey twist. Kinda like the characters to be honest.

Will give the next few eps a try - this one might grow on me more.

The director's vision is clearly exceeding his budget in places, but it's well written with good characters. The romantic plot is strong so far, though it's weird how the first half seemed to be setting up Umio x Hio, only to junk it in the second half for Umio x Sensei.

I thought for sure that this show was gonna be on the shorter side and was surprised to find out that it's as long as the regular shows are.

It's not laugh out loud funny but its amusing and adorable enough to hold one's interest. That it has a well balanced cast also helps its cause. The show's very low energy but the sedate pacing is soothing to the nerves. I just hope it continues to keeps its pervy inclinations in check and the humor doesn't become too risque.

Time will tell if this show will evolve from a seemingly safe run-of-the-mill romantic workplace comedy into something more.

Anyone spot the Tokyo City smut inspector in the queue for the ladies toilet at Comiket?

It looks to be a pleasant enough show and it will provide me with an Akiba fix until I can get back to the real thing next spring/summer.

Fun first episode.
Going to be following this. Looks like a simple entertaining series.
And along with Working! and Servant x Service, I just love watching anime about people working.

Funniest part was the beginning with sensei falling asleep while shrink-wrapping stuff and dreaming she wrapped herself.

Well, I just wonder one thing: why publishers would depend on the backoffice of an Akiba (I suppose) bookstore--rather than the printing company--to shrink-wrap books? It is economically inefficient.

A number have their own "special bonuses". It's how they get in-store sales, in many ways.

My question extends to porn. Obviously, the seal tape is a literal band-aid for titles that should have been shrink-wrap but haven't.

EDIT at 7:47PM EDT: I hope most readers here knew that Japan's transit card system is similar to NFC enough, and that kind of mobile payment has been there for a decade.

Skipping this. It's not that bad, but not that good either.
