I wonder why it was so low key? Anyway, the first episode was interesting, although it was really confusing... well, at least I have no idea what was going on and why people were doing what they were doing. The music also seems a little like "B" level music, which is strange for an OVA.
All in all, it was interesting, shows some promise, but boy, I hope they fill in the blanks the next episode. Still why is a Tenchi "universe" series so low key?

Saw the first 2 episodes and liking it so far. Kenshi's a likable lead and knows how to handle himself when push comes to shove. The main surprise for me was the princess. I'd have expected a stuck-up tsundere, but she's actually quite nice and level headed. I like the concept of how the mechs are given form.
The plot so far stands well on its own, without relying on previous knowledge of Tenchi-lore, but if you're familiar with Dual, Tenchi and Photon you'll feel right at home and enjoy some of the references. Looking forward to more. |

Saw ep 1 with subs but need a better version to fully understand the story. Watched a little of the raw of ep 2.
Amused at little details in the world, typical of the director's ability to flesh out his multiverse. One was the fact that the exclusive school where most of the younger girls are in, had extremely conservative full-length skirt uniforms. That's of course, expected in reality but often ignored in fiction to give the girls something sexier to wear. But the funny thing, is the fact that all the girls tend to have EXTREMELY elaborate and Lacey skirts underneath their bland uniform. Sure, normally no one could see it, but it's one way to rebel against the system and to support individuality. The school seem to tolerate it, so everyone's happy. (This remind me of an article about some women living under Sharia Law, who wear extremely provocative if not outrageous clothes and underwear underneath their Burqa while out in public. It's a form of silent protest.) EDIT: Another point, I like how Kenshi is portrayed as an expert fighter. We haven't got one of those kinds of main character for a while. He was able to predict accurate in the training duel the outcome of the fight, because he can tell what the players were planning. A male hero who can take care of himself used to be common in anime but not any more, so having Kenshi being competent is quite a blast from the past. EDIT2: From ep 2 raw, I now decide Yukine Mea is my favorite girl of the whole show. She is of the "Tall, silent and imposing, but more feminine than she appeared" stereotype. But it's mostly how friendly she was to Kenshi that made her stand out. Unfortunately, since she wasn't even in ep 1, I doubt Yukine would have any chance of being in Kenshi's future inner circle. A pity, as I would like her to be a major character. EDIT3: The Director must be teasing us in some way. Mexiah, the older sister of Chiaia, was practically nude in ep 1's battle uniform. But in epsode 2 she was seen in a full pantsuit, which paradoxically made her sexier than previously. Here is her teacher's uniform, in all her long-legged glory:

It feel nostalgic, Tenchi Muyo is like one the first anime I watch in my anime club and got me hooked. Main character defintely reincarnation of Tenchi. The characters are very interesting specially Hime. The world is quite complex with mecha, knights and politic. I'm liking it so far only seen to episode 2 yet. ^^
But it came out very slow, it's an ova 51 min per episode, aired on PPV and Rental. This gona be a long wait. >_< Btw the PPV and the Rental version of ep 1 are slightly different. |

Just started watching this series today, currently waiting on the 4th OVA to be released. Very very amusing enjoying series, can't wait for the rest to come out. While watching this, I was thinking of Tenchi Muyo so some odd reason, maybe because of the main lead. But anyways, since I was interested in it, looked up the info for it and was surprised that it's connected to Tenchi Muyo. Man this show has a great balance: action, graphics, comedy, eechiness, and some other good stuff! I really haven't many series, actually haven't watched one in a long time where it was this enjoyable.....

It completely baffles me that there aren't more people out there jumping on board to sub this series/OVA besides the person's' who subbed episode 1. This series is way better than most or have been released and are ongoing, yet even those train wreck series have multitudes of people rushing to sub them as they come out. It makes me want to sub this myself, but I don't know how to sub, all I can do is just translate it....

Watching the raws, but only thing for sub is SORA sub ... and my friend did "cleaning" or w/e with their scans of air gear and he warned me of "internal conflicts" which happens alot. Sad to say wish more people would pick this up rather than oversubbing the over played anime of spring 09.

Just finished episode 4 and I'm enjoying this series more and more. I'm a sucker for this kind of "fantastic school environment" settings (like, say, Stellvia or Battle Athletes) and Isekai fits my needs nicely. It's mostly another school hijinks episode, but with more hints about Kenshi's heritage and scenes showing that he's more than meets the eye. Add in some nice fanservice, "court intrigues" and shadowy machinations and I was yet again left craving for more after those 45 minutes had passed.
If I take a look at the parts that make up the series separately, it doesn't really excel at anything. Good, but not outstanding graphics/animation, the soundtrack is nice, but not the most memorable and I've seen similar plots before (especially if you've seen other series penned by Kajishima), but if you take everything together it leaves me with a satisfied smile at the end, which is a lot more than I can say about some other offerings this or previous season. One thing I particularly enjoy is the world design. I'm glad to see that Masaki Kajishima hasn't lost his touch yet, as he manages to convey an interesting society and setting, that you want to learn more about. If I had to name a thing that I'm missing, it's the return of the mech battles we had seen in episode 1, but I'm sure they'll make their return in due time. Here's hoping the series will manage to stay this entertaining. I really hope some fansub group will find it in themselves to work on it, so that more people can enjoy the show. |

Oh... In the flash back was that Ryo-Ohki or Fuku? dang, I wanted to see that pendant opened up so I can see who Kenshi's sister is. Maybe Minaho Misaki? Wait, that was Kiyonne's sister... Was the person trying to hypnotize Kenshi in his flashback Washu? AHHHHHHH, so many questions! Well, guess I can figure out who Kenshi learned his sword technique from after hearing it was from his Old Grandpa. NEED SOME ACTION! Kenshi is awesome and needs to publicly show his skills! When does the next OVA come out? Really looking forward to it.
