So I readed all translated manga chapters avaiable, watched the first season and the first two episodes so far of Repeat. Glad to see it only repeats tiny parts of the first season. xD
Liked the 2nd episode a lot, it explains very well why Hotaru holds Komari in such high regards. Brave Komari showed her Onee-san qualities yet again, all scared in the darkness being lost, but woman up and helped young Hotaru overcoming her fear and sadness by holding her hand and leading the way. And thus began the Hotaru Koma-chan plushie enterprise with 10 billion yen per year due sold Koma-chan plushies. XDDD Seriously though, Komari and Hotaru are my fav charas from this series so far. Their relationship is soooooo adorable with the trying to be mature with fashion and "adult stuff" Komari while she is already pretty mature the way she helps and treats others and Hotaru who looks anything but a 5th grader and is all mature in cooking and sewing and fashion yet is still a little scared girl inside in need of a strong and cute looking senpai. <3 Bet Hotaru is too happy holding Koma-chan's hand to bother falling asleep. xD <3 Why do they have those Koma-chan plushies? I want some too!!! D:

But, I would rather have Kaede's "Real money talks" jacket. |

Ep 10
One of my favorite aspects of this franchise as a whole is the reserved and subdued yet gentle and affectionate love Candy Store and Renge have for each other, and it really came across in this episode. Plain excellent material. Stuff like this is just a plain consolation for me. On the whole, though, ep 10 was another "Renge steals the show" production for me. This second season overall really has almost none of the...hmm...raggedy edges...that would pop up in the narratives or the characters' actions in season one. For me it is an improvement and packs a much more effective and powerful punch. ^^

Episode 10 had such Wasi-Sabi.
Spoiler for ep 10 content:
The fascinating thing about their relationship is the distance between them. Candy Store is lovely to Renge, in her own low-key way, but she isn't Renge's mother. There's a limit to how close they can be, and the day will come when they part ways. Like many modern Japanese women, Candy-Store really doesn't seem inclined to get married or have children of her own. She gets some of the joy of child-rearing from Renge, with much less of the lifelong sacrifice true motherhood would bring; something like the maternal version of an affair. But in the end she's going to pay for it, left alone in the sunset. And that's sad, because she really is kind. Why didn't Renge wear long trousers for riding her bike? Maybe the bruises are part of the experience...alternatively, I for one would have been ditzy enough at 8 to throw on whatever clothes I wanted, regardless of the days events. More 10/10 scenery porn. I'll be sad when this series finishes.

This season has focussed around Renge to a much greater extent than the first series which I recall was mostly about Hotarun experiencing the countryside and rural living for the first time.
I reckon the anime makers know what sells.

We get that sweet sweet Renge and Kaede episode, but it is also somewhat bittersweet. Kaede has been Renge's baby sitter and somewhat trusted guardian. Kaede really cares very much of Renge but she can only watch as Renge grows and grows, becoming more independent from the adults that take care of her. Despite the eventual time that they too will grow apart, she goes on supporting Renge in her endeavours. Like a good mother bird she teaches them the neccessary skills to fly on the own ,but must also learn to finally let them go. She knew it it well enough, but it's all right. For the moment, she can console to the happy fact that Renge still needed her to get her candy.
Next week. Looks like we'll get to see the chapter that Renge "Hakuto no Ken" her older sister Hikage. |

Count me in as another one who loves the relationship between Kaede and Renge. I get the feeling Renge sees her more as an older sister of some sort more than anything, while Kaede has more motherly feelings towards Renge. This showed really well when Kaede learned Renge was sick and raced to her home to take care of her, even more so when Nattsun kept teasing her about it. The whole Renge/Kaede relationship is (IMO, at least) by far the most interesting character dynamic in the series, and one I wish we got more of.
And then there's Konomi, who seemed to take great delight in trolling Renge. Of course, with how impressionable Renge is, that's probably not very hard to do. Despite her deadpan face, Renge can still pull off some great expressions, which had me laughing quite hard. I'll miss this show when it ends.

One of the things (and I'm sure I've mentioned this before) I love about this show is its sense of place - it lets the country sights and sounds speak for themselves without need for any background music to get in the way of giving you a taste of the setting.
But that second part of the episode with Candy Store and Renge learning to ride her bike without the stabilisers. That was just wonderful. The best part was the scene where Candy Store gives Renge a push start, and by the light of the setting sun stands on the right of the screen while Renge rides off the left side and is gone. It's a beautiful scene, where no words are necessary to convey the emotion. These are the sort of things which this series excels in, and I will miss it. |

SO why is Candy Store isn't Renge's elder sister again? So much sweet in this episode that nearly caused me to get a diabetes.
So, does this means that Renge is very very very smart person in general? She solved the multiplication math with little difficulty. |

Candy Store proves once again she is the best girl in the show. Her relationship with Renge is so endearing.
It's not the first time Renge has proven to be extremely smart. If she weren't stuck with such a laidback teacher, her genius would have been recognized and nurtured.
