Part I of the S2 novel comes out this 29th August.

The new protagonists are Russell (the boy) and Skaya/Sukaya (the girl), both from politically opposed land nations whose existences were alluded to in the recent OVAs.
It also guest stars a now 18-year old Ledo. It is touted the novel will conclude Ledo's story.

Hopefully some kind individuals will attempt to translate, or summarise the sequel novels for the international Gargantia fans who can't read Japanese...

PS. Ledo's aged well this past 2 years, hasn't he? (S2 takes place 2 years after S1).

Shame that it will never be animated

I watched the sub of OVA 2 and was frankly unimpressed.

Spoiler:

This might have worked better had it been six episodes with some more plot development. As it stands, it just felt too rushed to be convincing.

I miss Chamber. He was the best character in the entire series.

Unfortunately the LN isn't out in America and has yet to be discussed if it will be. Fortunately here is a website with all the illustrations in both of the novels as well as the ending for both Ledo and Amy. Warning.....beware of intense spoilers.

The way I see it, a season 2 will only come out if either the novel sells well enough or another anime production studio decides to buy the rights for the series to finish it off with a season 2.

SPOILER ALERT:
Spoiler for season 2:

Does anyone know the name of the books. I have been searching everywhere to purchase them but can't find them. If anyone knows where i can buy the Season 2 books, or the actual title name of the books please let me know. Thanks

NM I found them on CDJapan. If anyone else interested here are the links. Now hopefully I can find someone to translate them.

Does anyone have any links to spoilers that have translated them? Can’t read Japanese and don’t think anyone’s gonna be translating the books anytime soon.

Funny thing, I just watched the OVAs again because Crunchyroll added them to their lineup. I didn't remember either of them all that well after four years. After watching, I had the same response I wrote above!

I've always had this theory that some of the ideas Urobuchi Gen had for a 2nd season of Gargantia ended up becoming Aldnoah.Zero.

In other words, we would've been watching badass Ledo fight an invasion against his former comrades using the lower tech gear of Gargantia, instead of some random teenager with poor facial expressions.

In the end, Gargantia never got a sequel and what we got instead was leftovers that had to become something else

It was supposed to get a sequel anime, but the plans never came to be and the sequel story was novelized instead.
