Addicted To The Internet?
There was an article on Yahoo! about this. Anyway, here's the list of symptoms if someone is addicted to the internet:
1. Lying about how much time is spent online. 2. General decrease of physical activity and social life. 3. Neglecting obligations at home, work, or school to spend time online. 4. Spending too much money on computer equipment or Internet activities. 5. Feeling a constant desire to be online when they're away from the computer. 6. Going online to escape real world problems. 7. Disregarding the emotional or physical consequences of being in front of a computer all day. 8. Denial of the problem. --> If you want to read the full article, then go here.

Well, I'm guilty of all those... though I woudn't call it an internet addiction as much as an addiction to the computer, and everything that goes along with that. It's hard explaining to people who think of the computer as an email and word processing device that I'm not just sitting at the computer all day... I'm going to the library, reading books, watching television, talking to friends, etc... all very efficiently without getting up from my chair

No one has ever asked me how long have I been on the computer.
Can't be a decrease of what wasn't really there in the first place. Quote:

I used to be guilty of quite many of those but now I have to say that life is curing me slowly. I rarely can spend time on my computer for longer than 3 hours in a row these days, playing games or whatever,it just will kill me eventually so I have to go out.

All my friends have gone to university and I'm stuck at home working, so even though I leave the house to go visit them, I can't do it as much as I like. This is why I use the internet a lot. I used to have an addiction in college, but strangely enough, even though I have more free time now, I don't use it as much.
I agree and disagree with various things in that list. |

I am frequently bugged when I'm not able to get on my computer, but it's not about addiction.
No, really. It's about what the computer can do, and on the occasions where I'm able to satisfy those desires without a computer I feel no need to sit at one. I use a computer for information, entertainment, and communication. Being at a library, having a crystal-clear TV and stereo system with DVDs/CDs I want, and actually being around my friends... I'm not worried about my computer in the least at that point. Of course, the internet can often serve me better than a library, depending on my needs, and I can't rent currently-airing Japanese shows at the video rental outlet. That's why I'm constantly attached to my computer: It often does things better than, and more conveniently than, the alternative. |

Come to think about it, Internet addiction thats still better than doing drugs or too much alcohol
So since I am guilty regarding point 2 (which can partly be blamed on my current work), I am not concerned about it yet.

Yeah I'm pretty much the same. I know I'm not addicted because if someone gave me a load of cash I'd go travelling in a heartbeat. The internet just beats most alternatives. I use the internet a lot because theres not much better to do where I live :/ (Guy Fawkes fireworks aside lol)

About me... well, I feel somehow identified with some of the points, I can't deny that I sometimes lied to my parents about my time online, but I don't consider myself addicted to the Internet at all, I've never felt a consant desire to be online, even when I didn't have my own computer, and there are other points that I consider exaggerated ^^U |

2. Yeah, but there wasn't much of a social life to begin with. 3. Never had any obligations at home or had any work... School though.. Yeah, definitely. 4. Never had any money to spend anyway 5. More like a desire for the computer itself, but yeah. 6. Yup. 7. I think about it sometimes. Mostly under periods when I try to get a girlfriend, though. (In case anyone wonders, that has never succeeded.) 8. I don't deny it. I'm a nerd! |
