The male Shepard is the canon one. And the un-updated ME2 game assumes that you saved the team mate of opposing gender to your character in ME1, hence Ashley is canon.

Of course, this leaves Liara out of the game. But I guess she is better off as the neutral adviser.

Actually, I have a suspicion that the game shown did NOT import a ME2 save file. So it is a good chance you would only get Kelly if you saved her in ME2, as her death was quite likely to happen if you didn't know about how to prevent it.

Kelly is in the game. Don't you worry about it. And yes, you can continue your romance with her.

I wonder how many of your old squadmates you'll be able to keep?

Breaking News for UK peeps: Game and its affiliates (E.G Gamestation) will not be stocking ME3 and any further EA releases from March onwards.

So if you guys had a preorder deposit already, it'll get refunded to you along with the reward points. For those who had a collector's edition preordered and are wondering where you can get it now, Amazon UK has now opened preorders for it, so make haste before it runs out.

Update: Amazon has stopped preorders of the Xbox360 and PC versions.

Except Bioware has already stated neither Shepard is canon. Did any of the novels claim a gender for Shepard?

Regardless, this still means little in regard to a why canon romance 'should' be written. Again, as anime fans we should be very familiar with how you can have a character be practically the main character of a show without revealing current or past romantic interests.

Say a novel or game uses Tali, the only thing they'd have to do is avoid writing to deep into topics concerning her life in the past few years. Honestly, just have her talk about the work she does. If Shepard must be mentioned, just have her talk about him in general.

Why step on a landmine if you can avoid it?

I wasn't amused when I found out about this since I reserved my collectors edition from them months ago and now seemed to be sold out everywhere...

God knows if I'll be able to pick one up at launch or at all for that matter.

I'm applauding BSN for finding more and more ways to rage when I thought they'd have exhausted themselves to sleep.

An example of one:
Spoiler for Rainbows and the Virmire survivors. Ohhhhhh myyyyyyyy:

And facepalm at Tali assuming you choose a certain route.

^Indeed

And if there's one thing that remains constant in the series, it's that Shepard still can't dance. Oh, and I guess there's yaoi in this one as well with the new character (video in link somewhat NSFW? And a lot of guys are gonna LOVE the gay option for FemSheps).

Now, if they actually made the romance believable with good writing in the first place... Meanwhile I'll focus on saving the galaxy, kthx.

Likewise. I have never touched a romance in a bioware game, kind of busy saving the galaxy.

The Sith Inquisitor romance is kinda cute. And the Sith Warrior has a spunky Twi'lek to slap/zap/bicker around with.

Oh wait, wrong Mass Effect game.

Even a hero saving the galaxy needs someone for stress relief now and then otherwise your trigger finger gets all jittery and krogan (yes I just used that as an adjective)... well, if you count that as romance .

Blowing stuff up and roaming the galaxy is enough stress relief for my Shepard.
