‘I can’t just hide here forever…’ Yuuno sighed as he rolled out of the bed. He wasn’t feeling too energetic right now since thanks to Rai, he could technically be charged with being an accessory to a criminal breakout operation. And knowing his luck, he’d probably even get hit with accessory to assault or murder charges depending on what Material-L did to the security forces.

This was probably the worst possible scenario. By the time he got back, word of this incident will have already reached the Bureau. Not only would his reputation plummet like a rock, he’d probably lose his job. His savings would likely be drained to nothing thanks to hiring defense lawyers. And worst of all, Nanoha and his other friends would probably want nothing to do with him ever again!

‘Okay, I’m probably just overreacting here…’ He pinched his nose once in an attempt to calm down. ‘Calm… I am calm. I still have time to figure this out. It’s not like I have anything else to worry about at the-’

*THUMP*

‘What was that?’ The Librarian paused when he heard the sound of something hitting the deck just outside his quarters before getting up to open the door. The moment he stepped out, his ears picked up the sound of strained feminine breathing. One glance down led his eyes to the collapsed Material-S. “Seikou?!”

As he knelt down to lift her upper body up a little, he was shocked to feel how cold her skin felt. “Just what happened here?” asked Yuuno out loud.

“Looks like a case of hypothermia,” commented the blue gem form of Luciferion that rested on Seikou’s chest.

“But the symptoms aren’t matching up. Is her body temperature normal?”

“It is just above 35 degrees Celsius.”

A frown came to the young man’s face. “Then what could it be?”

His thinking process was interrupted by the voice of Material-L. “Hey, I heard something go bump in the night and… Seikou-chan!” In an instant, she was by Yuuno’s side and yelped slightly when her hand touched the cold skin of the Nanoha replica. “Whaa! Cold!”

“Rai, did you happen to change the environmental controls when nobody was looking?”

“Eh? Uh……”

Right, she wasn’t exactly the brightest crayon around so he would have to word it a different way. “Did you move the green thingamabob towards the blue line?”

Rai shook her head wildly. “No, no I didn’t!”

“Okay then…” He shifted Seikou’s body slightly so he could carry her bridal style back into his quarters where he could try and treat her condition.

“Um, Yuu-nii? About earlier…” It was a strange sight to see Material-L fidgeting. Normally, she’s out of control and out of her mind but right now, she’s acting rather soft spoken and reserved. But he couldn’t let himself get too distracted.

“I’m going to take care of Seikou first. After that, if you still want to talk, then I’ll come to see you later when I’m ready. I promise.” He still needed time to wrap his head around how to handle Rai thanks to this latest turn of events. Once he got that straightened, then he can have that one on one chat with her.

That reassurance brought a small happy smile to her face since at least, he looked like he was doing better than the last time she saw him. “Okay!”

An endless void…

Where am I?

A scream that barely scratched the surface of the painful feeling of immense loss. Material-D instinctively recognized the scream as her own, even though she didn’t exactly fully remember what was taken from her.

Was it her parents? Her mobility?

That’s not it.

Then what was it? What other family did she have? She had no other blood relatives that she could recall. The only people that she knew who might have qualified as family in the spiritual sense before she had met Material-S and Material-L were…

Beloved guardian knights…

Where did that thought come from? That couldn’t be right. As far as she was concerned, there was nothing she valued highly enough to justify letting out a scream that contained that much grief. If her Knights were to die in her name, then they would do so with grace, meaning and dignity. To serve a powerful and competent Master should be their greatest pride and joy. So why…?

Enough of this… let me out of here!

The void shattered in response to her thoughts and she found herself standing on top of a roof in a city during the night. Up above, she could see two little girls floating just ahead of her. One had brown hair and was in a barrier jacket that looked like a silly white school uniform and the other girl, who was blonde, was wearing something that only someone into bondage would be caught wearing.

“So you two are the ones responsible for this?” is what Yami wanted to say. But she found that she wasn’t exactly in control of anything here. She couldn’t command herself to move as she wished. It was when she felt the sensations of the body itself that she quickly came to the conclusion that she wasn’t inhabiting her true body.

For starters, this body had rather lengthy hair on her head. She guessed that the strands fell past the waist, which probably would make it more difficult to deal with in the mornings. Also, this body was quite tall. In fact, Material-D guessed that this vessel was a good half foot taller than her.

And the one thing that confirmed that this wasn’t her body? This woman’s breasts were bigger than her own…

…… GAH!

Had Material-D been able to do so, she would have slammed her head against the wall multiple times in order to get that last perverted thought out of her brain.

Groaning, Fate rubbed her temples and prayed for a miracle. Usually she could deal with Nanoha much better than this when the woman got a little frisky, but the simple fact was, they hadn't gotten a call all day; they were both bored out of their skulls.

[Heh, I bet that it's not every NanoFate fic where "deal with Nanoha when the woman got a little frisky" is in relation to firearms!]

“Hmpf,” Nanoha sulked, slouching in her seat and kicked her boots up onto the dashboard, making a vein pop out in Fate’s forehead. [One of the benefits of all the My-HiME fics I've been writing is that I can immediately channel Natsuki's expressions onto Fate's in this scene.] “I should have partnered up with Yuuno-kun instead. He wouldn’t be so cruel to me! [...Because you've got him whipped, Nanoha.] Or maybe with Signum-san—I bet you she’d already have a Minigun mounted on her squad car if we were together.”

“Which is probably why Chief Grahem didn’t pair you two up. He wants the city still in one piece by the end of the day.”

"We'd only chase people who deserve chasing!" [It's not the people you're chasing he'd worry about, Nanoha...Hayate could probably show you this program called The Dirty Pair that would explain it. ]

Fate didn't even get the chance to reply; she snatched up the radio, clicking the frequency. "Yeah, Testarossa here." Please, please, save me from trigger happy partners who are bored out of their skulls.

On the other end of the line, Hayate coughed. "Fate-chan, Nanoha-chan.... you aren't going to believe this."

“I don’t care if it’s on the force’s cracklist of calls, we’re up for it.”

“Well…” Hayate dragged out, a hitch in her voice that either hid indignation or hilarious laughter. Knowing her friend, Fate would put her money on the latter. “It is from the crack pile, but Shari’s whining that she’s gotten 20 calls from this lady in the past hour, so she asked me and Yuuno-kun to take care of it…but Yuuno’s not too happy about the subject matter, so will you two deal with it?”

Nanoha snatched the radio from Fate. “Yuuno-kun is refusing a call? Oh man, what is it, another pole dancer who lost her tips “somewhere” and wanted Yuuno-kun to “look for them”?”

[Excuse me while I climb back onto my chair from laughing so hard. Incidentally, "somewhere" and "look for them" should be in single quotes, ' , since they're quotes-within-a-quote.]

Hayate couldn’t hold back her laughter anymore, and they heard indistinct sounds of Yuuno sputtering and protesting before Hayate managed to get enough breath back to say, “You’ll see when you get there! 118 Fleming Street.”

“Finally something to do!” Nanoha crowed, bouncing in her seat and snapping a new magazine into her handgun. “Hit the gas, Fate-chan!”

And despite the fact that it was grossly inappropriate and overkill for the current situation, Fate had to admit that she gunned the engine shamelessly, leaving a smoke trail behind.

"They took the call?"

Hayate grimaced and switched off the radio. "Yep. I'm kind of surprised they didn't ask for details, but I guess Nanoha-chan was really bored and driving Fate-chan crazy."

Yuuno cringed. "... Should we call them back and warn them?"

"Nah. It'll be hilarious to see their faces when they come back to headquarters to report it." Hayate grinned and grabbed Yuuno’s hand, yanking him into a jog. “We’d better get out of here ASAP—or else Nanoha-chan might go White Devil on us when she finds out!”

[The question is, will the job be worse than the boredom? I'm guessing Fate is less likely to complain at the end unless she gets racked up, since she's had to deal with boredom and bored!Nanoha!]

It was pretty obvious who had made the call, as the moment Fate pulled the squad car up into the neighbourhood street a door from one of the little dingy houses slammed open, crackling [cracking? crashing?] the screen door into the wall with a bang.

*snip*

“Finding? No, no, he’s not lost.” When the old lady began to hobble over to the tall oak tree in the middle of her lawn, Fate felt her heart sinking.

[Oh, yeah, saw that coming...]

“Oh…no…”

Perched up on one of the higher branches of the tree, the orange tabby licked his paw nonchalantly, [Orange? His? Darn, I thought maybe it could be Aria or Lotte. Or if it was gray, Ein. Fate's got a history with that cat.] his tailed wrapped tightly around his haunches. With a soft huff, he gazed down at Fate with bored yellow eyes, as if wordlessly daring her to even try following him up onto his perch.

Fate glared back up at the tomcat. If he had looked scared, her heart would have melted, but that kind of arrogant gaze? Oooh, she was tempted to just leave him up there.

A throat cleared behind her. “Well? Aren’t you two lasses going to do something?”

"How'd he get up so high?"

The old woman shrugged. "He's always enjoyed a good climb now and again. Keeps his body fit. But this morning he went all the way up there and he hasn't come down yet."

"... Young?" [The word "young" wasn't actually previously used by the woman, so Fate shouldn't be able to react to it. Did some dialogue get omitted?] How old was that cat?

“I’ve had him since I was, oh,” the woman dithered, patting at her flowery dress, “a much younger woman.”

Fate made a choked sound, hastily trying to school her expression.

“Oh, he must be a very young cat then!” Nanoha said gallantly, blinking her charming wide blue eyes at the old woman. [Suck-up! ]

Before the old lady could respond, or Fate could regain her composure, Nanoha glanced up the tree, noting how tall it was and how sturdy the tree bark was. "So, the boy climbed up there, huh?"

"Yes, it's his morning habit. Usually he's down by now, and—oh, my."

Fate's jaw dropped as, with seemingly no effort, Nanoha gripped one of the tree's lower branches and hauled herself up, starting to climb the tree trunk as if it were nothing but a simple ladder. [Ninja cop at it again!]

“My, my,” the old lady said admiringly, giving Fate a rather disdainful look, “your nice partner is pretty spry, isn’t she? A very good girl.”

“Yes,” Fate said dryly, keeping an eye on Nanoha who was scaling up the tree with no problems so far, “She’s spry like a monkey. The stupid kind that doesn’t worry about common concepts like gravity and common sense!”

The woman tut-tutted, shaking her head. “What a thing to say about a pretty girl like that!” She turned back to look at Nanoha as well, a thoughtful expression on her lined face. Then, a canny glint shone in the old woman’s eyes.

....

Please, tell me she isn't looking up Nanoha's skirt. Never mind the fact that the brunette currently wasn't wearing a skirt; Fate's thoughts weren't exactly coherent at the moment.

“Aren’t you nearly done?” Fate shouted up at Nanoha, shifting irritatedly on the spot. The sooner she had Nanoha back down on the ground and not flashing her very fine, well-toned butt at them, the better… [Oh, Fate, so transparent you are...]

…of course, Fate wasn’t gawping. She was just spotting for Nanoha, in case she fell. Yeah. All business here.

"Yeah, I know. I think I'd want to get away from my owner too every now and again if she was like that." Nanoha held out her hand. "But you've caused a lot of trouble, pretty boy."

He eyed her a little suspiciously, his whiskers twitching in front of his narrowed golden gaze. His tail swished a little faster.

“Aw, don’t be like that,” implored Nanoha, moving forward another fraction and feeling the branch sway a tad alarmingly. “I like cats, especially good boys like you. Right?”

The tom’s whiskers came forward in a cat’s grin as he purred.

“Yes, you’re a handsome little gentleman, aren’t you?” Nanoha cooed as she crept forward again, her fingers just inches away from Mr. Bojangles’ fuzzy paws.

Then she felt a tremor go through the branch they were both perched on, a vibration that echoed through Nanoha’s tense muscles.

Crap.

Fate heard the snap before she even saw the branch plunge through the shadows of the tree and hit the grass with a dull thud, loose leaves still drifting in the air. She knew, instantly, what it meant. "Nanoha!"

"I'm all right!" The brunette's voice drifted down from the tree, sounding oddly muffled for some reason. "I managed to grab on to another branch. Give me a minute, I'll be right down."

Regardless of the fact that it was probably an unsafe idea, Fate hurried over towards the tree trunk, craning her head back and looking up.

Being Nanoha’s partner for three years had brought Fate face-to-face with some pretty weird stuff. Most of which Fate wished that she could scrub from her brain, just for the mortification factor involved—usually Fate’s mortification. So for once, it was nice to see someone else be at the receiving end of the horror. And this was one of the weirdest sights Fate had ever seen.

[Get pictures, Fate! Uh...a record of the incident scene for the file, that's it! ]

There was Nanoha, clinging upside-down to a branch, her arms and legs wrapped around the tree like her life depended on it (which it probably did). And wrapped around her face, all four limbs splayed out and yowling in protest, was Mr. Bojangles, attached to Nanoha’s face like a furry face-hugger.

[Hahahahahaha! I love the image! Yui or someone should do fanart...]


Indeed, Fate was used to being hated by cats. [That's what happens when you electrocute one when you're nine, Fate. Word gets around!] Maybe this guy had grown out of the “cats all hate Fate Testarossa” part of kittenhood in his old age? Still, she decided to pass on trying to pat him, as much as she wanted to since, she had to admit, he was kind of cute. In a kind of dignified, lordly gentleman cat way.

Nanoha finally finished climbing down, sliding down the trunk and landing safely back on the ground. Fate barely noticed the old lady making a fuss over the “brave, kind officer” who had rescued her cat and patting the dust out of Nanoha’s clothes because…

…Mr. Bojangles had climbed up to drape his belly over Fate’s shoulder. And he was purring.

"Well," Nanoha murmured, amused when the cat shifted to rub his cheek against Fate's hair, "I'm going to guess he isn't one of Suzuka-chan's former kittens." [ROFL! So that actually was where you were going with the "cats hate Fate" bit!]

Smiling tranquilly, Nanoha just shrugged, leaning back in her seat and propping her feet up on the dashboard again. She didn’t care about any amount of teasing. All she thought of was how, for once, Fate hadn’t rejected Nanoha’s declaration outright. Fate probably had been too embarrassed and distracted by her soft-hearted attachment to the cat to notice.

It’s one of the reasons why I like you so much, Fate-chan.

[Oh, right, UST and all that. Would you believe that until Nanoha started talking about it here, I just saw the line as a standard, "best friends" comment?]

For those who might be wondering about the odd name for the cat, this is in dedication to a poor stray cat adopted by a high school. The entire student population is trying to raise enough money to cover the cat's vet bills in order to save his life (a bill in the thousands of dollars). So when RB suggested this idea for our next Log, I just had to make an homage to Mr. Bojangles .

Ahhh, I was actually wondering about that (see notes in story text). Anyway, it's great to see the two of you back and Logging again. What a nice way to segue into the last week before Christmas.

General question time again! This one for those following LDG:

So, I was talking with Sora awhile ago on AIM, and she brought up the fact that she'd like to see a bit more focus on Vivio's thoughts and feelings at the time when Lutecia was having her breakdown in chapter 2, especially since Dezo's fic hinted at what she might have been thinking. So since then, I've been debating (and heavily leaning toward) adding a brief bit in between chapters 2 and 3, to focus on Vivio.

Is anyone interested in this? Or would they prefer that I skip right to chapter 3?

Have to agree with RD on this; most of the time the ViCia stories are seen through Lutecia's eyes and we get Vivio's thoughts only when she voices them (thankfully, she's a very transparent person, so there's not much left hidden), so fleshing things out from her POV would be neat!

Sorry for the delay ......my fault, I've been busy lately with other fic .

Ah, the next chapter for Angel is outlined, but I haven't felt a strong enough drive to write it lately to have it bump off other fics on my update list . I'm hoping to finish off some of my 75% completed fics so that I don't have so many incomplete ones @_@.

Aria and Lotte are (at least, so far in our plans ^^) to be people (as are Arf and Zafira). I like them, so of course I'd do my best to make them repeat characters!

Secuence 0 - Welcome 1 - 2

You sigh and start to walk to the rainbow door. Why did you choose this door in particular is something that you can't explain. Maybe it was a gut feeling, maybe you felt a connection with it. Or maybe is the fact that is a rainbow colored door, and who in their right mind would use something like that? Regardless, you open the door and find... nothing on the other side. You would be disappointed if you were expecting something to happen, thankfully you didn't expect much.

“Program 'Brawler' has been selected. Initializing simulation.”

You suddenly feel tired. You don't have time to even gasp before your eyes are closed.

Spoiler for Secuence 1 - Re:Learning 1:

You wake up sweating.

You know that is the dream's fault, or nightmare's fault. Nevertheless you wake up in your room. Or at least you think is your room since you still can't remember things correctly. You do remember your name so at least is not complete amnesia. So you decide to check the room. There is not much though. You only see a TV, a laptop, some books, mostly history books, and a wardrobe. There is no photos of yourself or family or anything to remind you of your past. You wonder why you don't have anything to remind of the good times you must had. Or why you could not have something of your family. You leave your room, the door is thankfully not rainbow colored like the one in your dream, and see the rest of your home.

Before anything else happens, you search for someone else in the little apartment. Of course considering that is small, it only has another room, a kitchen, a living room and the bathroom, your search ends before you get your hopes up. Which may be for the best because you didn't find anyone. The other room is empty, the kitchen is completely clean, so you either are clean freak or you don't cook, the living room is quite bland, only two sofas and a small table and the bathroom, which has supplies. Once again you don't find anything that could make you remember. And if it wasn't for the feeling that the place gives you, you could swear that this isn't your home.

A ring on the door snaps you out of your deductions. You don't know what to do now. On one hand you could open the door and wish that the person on the other side knows you, so you can ask about yourself and dispel the mystery. On the other hand, you could make the complete stranger on the other side freak out.

Another ring on the door makes you stop wondering and simply open the door.

“'Good morning Yuuno-kun.” You see a girl with short brown hair and blue eyes. While you don't remember meeting her, you know that she is slightly mischievous, and your best friend. Or something like that.

“Good morning Hayate-san.” You realize that you know her name. Yagami Hayate, who is your classmate and 'best' friend... in high school at least. You don't remember with clarity much of the time you have spent with her, but you have a general grasp on the circumstances and you hope that you remember at least half of those times together.

You hear her sigh and mutter “You always have to be so formal.” You wisely decide to ignore the comment. Suddenly she looks at you with surprise and you get nervous. There is something in how she is looking at you that makes you wonder if you did something out of your normal behavior. “Say Yuuno-kun, why are you still in pajamas? We have school today you know.”

You kind of remember that she is right. Well it does sound logical that, since she is your classmate, you need to have a class together for that to be. “Um, sorry I just woke up. Give me a second okay?” You don't wait for an answer, you kind of know what she is going to say, something like 'honestly you should not sleep so late, stop reading those books', and go to your room. You open the wardrobe and see the uniform, a red blazer and gray pants, not so bad but not that good either, and you undress and dress as soon as possible. You decide not to comb your hair, since it isn't that bad, and to skip breakfast, not knowing who you are doesn't help your appetite, so on more or less five minutes, you are ready to leave. You of course don't forget the bag with all your books. “Ready.” She smiles at you, the you-shouldn't-do-this-again smile by the way, and starts to walk away. You walk slightly behind of her, you have a vague hint of where are you going but you decide to be cautious.

The trip to the school is quiet so it lets you think about whatever is happening to you. While you still don't know much about your past, your memories have been returning. Well you think memories but it's more like feelings. Certainly you feel that Hayate is your best friend and you do know somethings about her. Not really personal stuff but her hobbies at least. And then there was the nightmare, because it can't be other thing, which didn't made sense but you get the feeling that is important somehow.

While you wondered and wondered, seriously losing your memory and having nightmares are fuel to start thinking who knew, you finally arrive at the school. While you are still confused about the whole lack of memory, you decide to act normal. Well what you think is normal anyway.

And before you even notice, the school day ends. Well you did spend most of that time worried about your acting. Still the day ended and you didn't remember anything else. You sigh before grabbing your books. You notice that there is a small envelope tucked in-between some of your books. You open it and take out a little note.

Ahahaha , yes, more of my far-too-many multi-chapter fics .... The next chapter in that one is half-done, although it has gone down my list of updates simply because I need a lot of time to go over all of Dezo's very thoughtful feedback (and I mean all of it....9 pages worth!) about earlier chapters and decide how I'm going to edit the series.

So I guess right now my update list (which may change according to inspiration) goes like this:

Soliers dragged Kyoya and Miyuki in the centre of circle, created by line of soldiers and Takamachis could see the other circle of soldiers behind the backs of first line`s man. Dusselberg himself sat at stone in the middle between two circles, putting still sleeping Nanoha at his laps, the ash-haired man definitely enjoyed the situation as he gleefully hummed some illegible song. Well, situation was absolutely under his control, so he have some reason to be so carefree.

Sun was almost un-visible, hide behind the trees and evening air was plenty chilly. But for Kyoya and Miyuki the main source of cold was their souls. The know that one of them will die here and the other one will forced to live with guilt of murdering his/her sibling and frustration of inability to save Nanoha.

The commander of unit - man called Argus, personally cut up the nets on both siblings and even help them to get up. Kyoya didn`t know was it out of pity, or out of order, but he felt momentary wave of gratitude. He stretch his bode, warming up the numb joint and was glad to find that his body in good condition.
When he turned back to look at Miyuki he found his sister already performing warm up exercise she used before their sparring. Tonight was their last one.

The company commander leave them alone for a while, for time that he needed to go to his master and come back with a long bundle. He carefully put bundle on a ground and un-wrap it under the gaze of Kyoya and Miyuki. When he stood up and step few steps aside Kyoya and Miyuku could see pair of beautifully crafted katanas, laid on piece of clothes. Their long grips and slender scabbards was crimson red and ornamented by images of twin mans standing back to back, their guard was shaped in form of flower petals and when Kyoya pulled the weapon out, the strong and pure sound can say that blade was created from finest metal.

Despite the grimness of situation Kyoya couldn`t suppress the low gasp of fascination. And quite yelp from behind signalized that Miyuki also was astonished by beautiful swords. Kyoya hold katana`s grip in both arms and performed two fast thrust and swift horizontal slash, to judge the weapon`s balance. The weapon even surpass his expectation – the sword felt almost as continuation of his hand, rather than the weapon he forced to fight his little sister to death in order to pleasure one of most infamous mass-murderers in human history.

Miyuki also tested her katana`s balance but by series of slashes and parry, that culminated in on fierce round slash, when she spin on the tip of her toes and end the movement by falling on her left knee.

“You graceful as a flow of water.” Complimented her Kyoya and Miyuki felt how her cheeks became redder. She berated herself for getting excited because of her brother praise in such situation. But she can`t help it – she loved Kyoya Takamachi as a man, not as brother and despite, or because, the hopelessness of their fates make her opener in her feelings. She stand up and take the stance. Kyoya mirrored her movements and take the very same position almost touching tip of her katana with his own. Suddenly she understood that she don`t feel cold anymore, on conturary – now she could feel unexpected warmth, that raise from inside. Seems that forthcoming battle heated her up. And she could see drops of sweet on Kyoya forehead -he feel it too.

“At last, we have finest swords for our last dance, aren`t we Miyu?” Kyoya grinned darkly.

“We are.” Nodded Miyuki.

Then, by unspoken signal, they started.

Kyoya decided to make first move and the ring loud *Clang* reverberate through entire field. Miyuki wasn`t caught by surprise and easily repel his long thrust by stepping back and lowering her blade a little and when sword collided she pushed blade aside. She immediately countered by low and fast slash, aiming for his legs, but Kyoya avoid it by jumping backward. Of course they didn`t have any problems avoiding those attacks – after countless sparring sessions they got too adapted to each other battle styles to let those attack through their defenses.

On other hand – siblings have no intention to harm each other. Problem was that they have no other choice but try to kill each other. Otherwise Nanoha`s life will be in danger.

Kyoya deflect Miyuki attack and with fast thrust, that aimed at his sister`s face, force her to sprung back, creating some distance between them. He took few deep inhales, trying to calm his crazy heartbeat. Adrenalin rush was unbelievable and treat to burn him from inside. His face was covered in sweat and his eyes sting – it was dangerous situation for every swordsman. But he, somehow, even was glad. After failing to save his mother and Nanoha he didn`t think he deserve to live. Miyuki could and must live and he, Kyoya Takamachi, will grant her chance to go from this situation alive.

He took a step forward and make sharp vertical slash, of course his attempt failed miserably when Miyuki make an counter-slash upward, thus almost beating his katana out of his grip, and attacked his now wide opened chest. Unlike normal pattern, Kyoya didn`t step sideway and on his knee to meet her attack, he just close his eyes and allow her blade to flow through.
He felt sharp pain in his chest, but sword didn`t make his way deeper in his body. He open his eyes and meet blazing gaze of his sister`s eyes.

“What are you doing?!!” Shrieked Miyuki, rage and horror was mixed equally in her voice and her sword visibly shivered. “You have death wish?!!”

“Correct.” Smiled Kyoya despite the pain, lowering the gaze he could see the hole in his vest and feel how his clothes start to soak in blood.

“Don`t you dare to try this again, Kyoya!!” Hissed Miyuki her eye narrowed dangerously. “Or else…”

“Or you kill me?” Kyoya giggled darkly.

Miyuku cursed, fighting her tears back. How could Kyoya be so selfish, how could he decide who will live and who will die. Could he imagine how hard it will be to her to lie with his blood on her hand, how could she live after killing her beloved one. Or everything he care – it`s his pride.

Feeling sudden outburst of rage, Miyuki, with a long scream, perform series of fast vicious slashes, mixing horizontal and vertical ones, not allowing her brother to catch her rhythm. Before Kyoya managed to catch her sword with his own and with powerful push, drive her away, slicing her cheek in process.

“Wh-What are you doing, Miyuki?!” Gasped Kyoya. He newer expect such fierce attack from his sister, it was vicious, brutal, merciless assault, filled with murderous rage. What could drive normally calm Miyuki in such state?

“Coward!!!!” Roared Miyuki, now tears leaked from corners of her eyes. “You pitiful coward, Kyoya Takanachi!!”

“What?!!” Kyoya grip on his katana became stronger as he heard those words. Deep inside, in the deepest corners of his soul, little flickers of rage start to shone.

“You hear me right!” Miyuki spat, biting her lips. “You cheap heroic wannabe! You already Bring mom to her death and now just want to run away from responsibility!”

“HOW DARE YOU?!!!!” Bellowed Kyoya with one lightning-fast downward slash, that resulted in long *BAM* and bring Miyuki on her knees. Not allowing her to counter him, Kyoya kicked her in the guts now sending her back. With few fast steps he stood right over Miyuki and raise his sword to deliver killing blow. But Miyuki response by catching sun`s ray and sending the light right in her brother`s eye. Kyoya howled in pain and stumped back, barely able to repel her attack.

Now both siblings glared hatefully at each other, clutching their katanas. Every traces of reluctance now disappear from both their stances and their gazes. Now it was real death math. Now for Kyoya and Miyuku didn`t exist not their sleeping baby sister, not their dead parents, they don`t give a damn about two lines of armed soldiers, nor about psychotic mass-murderer who assembled this all. Right now only their adversary existed. And he/she must die.

With low furious howl brother and sister restarted their duel.

Now Kyoya blind rage was replaced with calm tranquil fury and now he fully used his advantage in arm` length. He always was attacker and this why he concentrated on thrusts – the fast sharp attack that aimed to kill or cripple the opponent. Of course failed thrust leave him wide opened at the moment, and this exactly why he worked in pair with Miyuki, who mastered defense. Kyoya know, that attacking first he play into Miyuki hands, by allowing her to catch his rhythm and counter-attack in the moments when his thrust deflected, but he still didn`t recover. On other hand, she give him initiative, so he could make her technique against her. Moreover he know her general weakness – she always was more concentrated at weapon. Not the wielder.

So he perform few thrusts, with, he know, she repelled and then suddenly lashed forward, attacking Miyuki with horizontal slash. Such sudden change of attack pattern can take ordinary swordsman off-guard, but Miyuki wasn`t ordinary at all, and she easily evade his attack by sneaking under the blade. But he expect this and swiftly kicked the ground, sending dust right into his sister`s face. Miyuki yelped and stumbled back, losing orientation. Kyoya take his chance and with long thurst managed to impale her. Only her sudden jerk in the last moment saved her neck, but for the price of severely wounded shoulder.

Kyoya tried to increase his advantage and charged forward, aiming to deliver finishing blow, but Miyuki managed to return to her senses and blocked his attack by clamping his blade detween sleeve of her jacket and grip of her katana – her trademark block. Kyoya swiftly turned blade a little and with all his might jerked sword at him. Miyuki, of course pushed blade adding impulse to sword`s movement, wishing to throw Kyoya out of balance. But her brother expected this and rolled back, extinguishing kinetic energy.

Returning to his feet, he stared right into his enemy eyes, her gaze was burning with rage and bloodlust. Kyoya know – it was mirror of his own eyes.

“Splendid!” commented the event Hilbert Dusselberg. “Bloody and touching death math between bellowed siblings. Ah, how wonderful!”

For emphasis he shot his hands wide open and then combined them at his heart.

Argus Gestfaallen didn`t respond for few seconds, observing the vicious exchanging of strikes between brother and sister, but then his calm voice come from microphone in his helmet.

“What spell you put on those swords, my lord?”

“Hoh.” Dusselberg eyes flashed with delight. “You`re noticed. Can you tell me how? I read your profile – you` re not a mage.”

Gestfallen shrugged his shoulders.

“No, I have no talent in magic arts. But after long time of service under the mages I developed sense to magical reaction, and those swords almost drown me in magic waves, when I give them to those children.”

“Ah, you incredible pal, Argus.” Dusselberg gleefully clapped his hands. He raised his gaze and stared right into black lenses of battle helmet. “You absolutely right. This swords belongs, or were belong, to former Japan overseer Miyato Kozotana. They called…um, ah yes – Kyuuketski Kyodai – Bloodsucker Brothers. Poor Miyato get his ass roasted by Britannia army few weeks ago, and take some of his belongings. Well, he didn`t complains, s it`s okay. But, it`s not important, what important it`s this cute babies abilities. I sealed most of them, otherwise, rhis brave boy got sliced apart, when his cute little sister poke him in the chest. But what I left intact was those swords ability to raise human bloodlust and rage to sky-scrapper level. You, it`s so easily to understood those two intention – to show us sappy, tear-filled body-moving. With obligatory screams like “I`ll never forget you”, “I can`t live without you” or “You must do it”. Then on of them bravery ripped shirt on his chest and the second on, while wiling like cat, whose dick got pinched by door, stab him and then will drown this cute field with tears. But look at them now – poor primal rage, bloodlust and willing to kill. Now we have true death match, me dear Argus. So, let`s enjoy this.

His interlocutor didn`t respond and Dusselberg returned his gaze at the scene of fighting.

Miyuki was glad that she managed to land this final blow, even if she inflict minor injure at Kyoya, she still forced him to retreat. This give her some time to catch her breath and think about battle plan.
Situation wasn`t looked very good to her – even though, her enemy receive his wounds earlier than her, he wasn`t affected as much, as she expected. Moreover she herself started to lose her strength due her blood loss and due the fact she always has less stamina. Moreover, her shoulder sustained major damage and her arm start to shake and lose the grip at sword. On other hand – Kyoya`s left leg also was seriously injured, mean his speed decreased, moreover now his legs not so reliable and can`t bear weigh of his upper body as normal and he can`t use his techniques as efficiently as earlier.

So she need to aim her attacks on his lower body and assault him from the right, forcing him to use his injured leg. And she needs to end this fight fast or her hand give up and it`s will be her end.

Kyoya narrowed his eyes. As he expected, Miyuki`s arm cannot last too long, and he has edge in sheer endurance. But his injured leg rob away his mobility and thus initiative in fight as well. Miyuki`s obvious choice of tactic – attacking from right side, aiming for his lower body. Her style based on slashes, and thus she will aim to slice his throat or belly, because her injured arm decrease strength of her attack greatly and she wil be afraid to let her blade to stuck in his bones. Kyoya transfer weight of his body onto his right leg and change his grip on his sword, now he hold katana`s grip with his left arm on the height of his shoulder, and put the blade on his right arm` palm, guiding the sword with his fingers, preparing to strike downward.

Miyuki will try to end this fight soon. By diening or killing him.

Miyuki take a breath and darted forward.

Dusselberg giggled almost childishly, when bespectacled girl charged at her brother. Ah, show reach it`s climax. Now, one will die and one will live. This sharp, chilling moments was most interesting, the point of entire game. And he couldn`t let certain girl to miss it.
He gently touched forehead of girl, who slept at his knees and undone his spell. She yawned softly, slowly opening her eyes, staring drowsy at him. She regained her consciousness almost immediately as her bleak eyes flared with vicious hatred.

“Raise and shine, my little princess.” Sing-songed Hiblert wavering his right arm at her, flashing broadest smile on his face, “You almost missed most interesting moment of this evening.”

Little girl gazed in his eyes with grim suspicious and try to crawl away from him. Armagest` high officer just laugh at her and pointed at fighting siblings.

“Look, your brother and sister kill each other. Aren`t they a little hot-headed?”

Nanoha gasped in horror and turned at the direction, where her tormenter pointed his finger.

Miyuki snarled, barely avoiding the strike that threatened to make a hole in her skull. Despite losing his mobility he was still insanely fast in his slashes: when she avoid two fast strikes by sliding under them, Kyoya stumbled back and fall on his left knee. Miyuki was embarrassed to admit, that she fall for such silly trap – she, in eerie similarity, fall on her knee, preparing to perform fast horizontal slash… too see tip oh his blade, coming to her face with dangerous speed. She barely managed to cath the blade to a guard of her katana. But impact was powerful enough to throw her out of balance. And only injury on her brothers leg, preventing him from advancing. Kyoya barely had a time to pull his sword in guarding position, when Miyuki sprung at her legs and attack.

Miyuki retreated, knowing, that frontal attack is useless, moreover, her hand grow more and more weaker. So she returned to her original plan and dashed sideward, bypassing her brother in circle. Kyoya hissed and turned his body as fast as he could, following Miyuki`s movements. He snarled at outburst of pain in his leg and he could fell, how bleeding become stronger.

Now Miyuki, instead of direct confrontation, used hit-and-run tactic – making half-circle around him, when she got from his line of sight – she attacked with powerful vertical slash, boosting the power of attack with her weight. Even thought Kyoya always was fast enough to repell her attack, each strike weakened him visibly. Through, her hand was almost paralyzed and her vision start to became blurry.

Kyoya breath was rasp and now even haven`t enough time to wipe the sweet, that almost blinded him. His almost stopped feeling his left leg, and if he keep it like this, his legs could go out under him. He need to end this quickly or. The last rays of sun almost distract him during Miyuki another attack, so now he stopped her sword in the dangerous closeness from his head. Suddenly he get the idea.
Why not to use the trick, that Miyuki pull against him.

He let her to continue her attacks, waiting for opportunity and when his leg was prepare to give up he caught perfect moment.

When Miyuki jumped he caught the ray at the surface of his blade, sending him directly into Miyuki`s eyes. Girl screamed in agony clutching her eyes with her injured hand, and Kyoya use the opportunity. Using all remaining strength, he darted toward his sister, ignoring agonizing pain in the leg. His sword lashe forward like snake, aiming directly at Miyuku chest.

Miyuki was desperate – her vision hasn`t restored yet, and she know, that her brother wasn`t allow this chance to slip away. He coming, where he`s aiming, what attack he will use?! She didn`t know just on a pure impulse she raised her sword with her one hand.

Kyoya eyes widened when he see, that her sister sword start to rise. He know he couldn`t avoid the blade – he pull all his strength in this attack, moreover his injured leg rob away his mobility. So this is the ned for him. Time almost stopped for him. Tip of Miyuki`s katana come closer and closer with almost hypnotic motion. He could see as blade pushed against his chest, and for a brief moment he think, that blade didn`t go further. But then pain bursted through, again in unbelievable slow motion. He gritted his teeth inwardly – if goes to die, he will drag his enemy down together. He used inertia and pushed himself deeper onto sword. Teen used all of his remined strength to plunge the blade into his adversary chest.

Miyuki`s scream of surprise was gagged by stream of blood, that bursted from her mouth. Her yeys shoot wide open and she seen her brother`s face twisted in agony and his eyes filled with shock. She gurgled, when she see her sword, buried in her brother`s chest. When her gaze dropped even lower, she could see that Kyoya`s katana also pierced her flesh.

Miyuki`s thoughts start to run faster as herd of wild horses. She`s dead – nobody can heal injure like that and all she has left it`s nothing more but few moments of life. And even though her vision start to get blurry, she feel that now she got shrouds pulled out from her eyes.

Why she did that? Why did she fought Kyoya so viciously? Why she killed him? Aren`t she was his sister, despite wasn`t related by blood? Wasn`t she his most loyal and trusted companion? And isn`t she loved him with all her heart?
So why? What could make her fell so much rage and hatred toward him? What can make her into such beast?

Well, she know the answer – the monster sat at the boulder in the distance. His eyes glimmered with delight and she could see Nanoha, clasping both of her hands over her mouth, trembling uncontrollably, her eyes wide open.
Miyuki closed her eyes for a moment and then leaned forward, crushing her lips onto Kyoya`s own.

Kyoya eyes widened when he feel warmth of Miyuki`s lips. His thoughts right before was filled with horror – he killed his sister. It`s didn`t matter for him, that his life will end very soon, he couldn`t believe that he goes too far, that he even dared to pierce Miyuki`s graceful body with sword. He was fool to even trust the Great foe`s man. That bastard turned their death into performance to amuse himself and his mans. And they felled into his trap. He again failed miserably.

So why miyuki give him this sweet kiss? Why she clung to him so desperately.
When Miyuki pulled back, she even managed to smile through her bloodstained teeth.

“I love you, Kyoya.” Whispered Miyuki. “I Always loved you, but was too afraid to say it.”

Kyoya gasped, but Miyuki put her trembling finger at his lips, preventing him from saying anything. Strength leave her body with astonishing speed, Her legs couldn`t support her anymore and she falled onto Kyoya`s bloodstained chest, pushing him on earth, as his own strength also flowed out together with his blood.

“Ah, I was so stupid.” Kyoya`s voise was barely audible, he put his hand on Miyuki`s head and pull her closer, wanting to spend his last moments with girl, who loved him. “You always was so close and I didn`t notice a thing. Through I so often caught you soft longing gaze. I`m sorry Miyuki, that I was so dense so I never notice the love of a such beautiful girl.“

“It`s okay.” Wispered Miyuki, closing her eyes, aloe her consciousness to start to drow into velvet darkness. “Now you know, and our kiss tell me everything that I wanted to know. I can die happy now, my love. Please, know, that I forgive you for everything.”

With this words her eyes closed and Miyuki stood still. Kyoya felt single tears, slowly crawling on his cheek and mumbled.

“Thank you, Miyuki. Farewell, and know - I love you too.”

Those words was caught by gust of summer wing and carried away, into the place that lay far away from war ravaged land. Into the blur of the sky, into the shine of the sun, into the eternity.

Time flow as grains of sand in the hourglass, but Nanoha couldn`t scream. She wanted to while, she wanted to howl, and she wanted to mourn her family death. But horror paralyze her. She just sat here, glaring at her dead siblings bodies and gnash her teeth into flash of her palm.
It`s end. For everything. All of her hopes was dead, together with last members of her family. She could bear anything, until her strong and gentle father, kind and carrying mother, her wonderful and skilled brother and sister was near. But right now they left her alone.

NO! They were killed! They lives was robed away just for fun. The four most precious peoples was taken away by inhuman beast, that now sneered at her. Monster that burned her life, sat nearby.

Just like answering on her thoughts, suddenly loud “Fwooompf” reverberate. Pillar of flame burst upward from the place, where bodies of Kyoya and Miyuky was laid. Unnatural purple flame dancing, braided into strange figures, as abnormal as flame itself.

“Hm.” Voice of her captor sneaked into her ears like a pair of vipers. The wave of suffocating hatred started to born deep inside of her heart. “They killed each other like a spiders in a can. Such beautiful siblings love.”

Nanoha slowly turned around, meeting the gaze of a red monster, that smiled at her satisfied, playing with one of the countless bells, pinned on his clothes. Girl`s face slowly as flow of reaver changed from motionless mask of grief into vicious expression of hatred.

And then bloodcurdling howl pierced the evening`s air. Rage, horror, despair and bloodlust tangled in this roar like a serpents, accompanied by endless stream of tears, that finally bursted out from Nanoha`s eyes. Nine year old girl fall on her knees, scratching the air with her nails, while foam gushed out from her mouth, as if she tried to rip her enemies’ hearts with this. Her blood-filled eyes bulged out.

She wanted her family back, she wanted this pain to go away, she wanted to make sure that something horrible as this evening`s events never happened again; but more importantly, she wanted this monster to pay for this with their lives.

“How cute.” Smirked Dusselberg, looking at howling girl. “Little princes come to know the taste of blood-lust. I almost fascinated, but it`s time to go.”
He stood up, brushing away the dirt from his pants, looking at Nanoha almost with sympathy. And then he suddenly kicked her right into face, sending her flying a meter away. The scream cease immediately.

“Wow, the great soccer-player died, when I decide to become mage. What a shame” Hilbert Dusselberg smiled and make a gesture, ordering his unit-commander to come.

He pointed at unconsciousness girl, that laid motionlessly on the ground.

“Take her in. We must hurry, before Britannia notice the things.”

“Sir.” Even through the filter Dusselbrg could feel disgust in his subordinate`s voice. “Do you really needed to kick little girl into the face, just to stop her from screaming? Moreover, with such force.”
Both of them looked at Nanoha`s face – the kicked busted out few of her teeth, her nose was smashed and now her entire face was covered in blood.

“Actually, I kicked her, because her head looked like a ball, to tell the truth – I very enjoyed her howl. Such despair, such grief… ah, pure bliss.”

He goggled like a little boy.

“But, as I said before. Let`s hurry!”

But before Argus can carried his orders paid of crimson-black rays crushed down at line of APCs. The armored vehicle start to melt like an ice cram and second after, exploded, sending soldiers flying like a rag dolls

A brief moment after booming roar of Knightmare Frame`s guns filled the air.
Flabbergasted Blazing Bell barely managed to lift his gaze, to meet the vision of Britannia`s Knightmare Frames, descending on his forces like angels of death.

I didn`t have much experience with sword-fight so i want to beg forgiveness from readers if fight between Kyoya and Miyuki look to forced. I gladly accept some advises.
And in the very end of chapter i wanted to shout "All Hail Britannia!!"

Lina stretched her arms above her head and sighed as she felt a small kink in her spine fix itself. "Alright, now then..." She looked at the screen and frowned as static suddenly started fogging up the image. "What the hell?"

"I don't know!" Amy's voice was heard, startling most of the group. "It's like someone... Damn it!" She cursed, getting a surprised look from Chrono as she continued. "It's like what happened with Death Bringer! Something's blocking us." She slammed her hands on the console and growled.

"Don't get frustrated." Chrono spoke up. "Just try to figure out how to compensate for it."

"We've been working on it." Mary's voice popped up. "Don't worry, I'm pretty sure that I can figure out how to get through this heavy magic interference in a couple of days."

"Is there anything you can't do?" Lina deadpanned as Mary tapped her chin in thought.

"Huh, no... I don't think there is." She laughed as Lina face-faulted. "But, seriously, we've been working on getting through heavy magic interference since the battle on Mid-Childa and I'm sure we've almost figured it out. This just caught us by surprise."

Lina grumbled and caught the look on her husband's face. Shiro didn't need to show anything, she could tell how bad it was for him, since his body was tense, and there was a slight shaking of his shoulders and the way his eyes were narrowed told her more than any words could. Sighing softly, she walked over to her husband and put a hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry, they'll be fine." Her words sounded hollow, even to her.

She wasn't sure if she was trying to assure him or herself.

"Filia."

The Dragoness blinked as she heard the Supreme Elder's voice. A moment later, she saw several Dragons, all in human form, appear before her and the others. "Supreme Elder?" She gasped as a man that looked like he was in his thirties step forward. What surprised her was the fact that he was so young looking. Well, that and the staffs that they were all carrying, and the different coloring on their clothes. "What's going on? Why do you have different clothes on? Why do you look so young?"

Dyn smiled at her. "Don't worry about that, Filia. I have discovered a great source of power that I'm willing to share with you. But I need your help."

"My help?" The priestess blinked in confusion. Behind her, Amelia narrowed her eyes suspiciously. Fate, Arf and Nanoha all looked rather confused at what was going on. "What could you need my help for?"

"Just a simple matter, Filia. I just need your help casting a spell. My body hasn't quite gotten used to being younger yet and my magic is a little off right now."

"Oh." Filia nodded and walked to him. "You know that I'll do whatever I can to help you."

Dyn smiled gently at her as she walked up to him. "I know, Filia..." Putting a hand on her shoulder, he whispered one word that had her eyes widening. "Sleep." As the magic seeped through her body, she found her muscles weakening as she fell forward tiredly.

"What did you do?!" Amelia pointed at them dramatically as Dyn handed Filia to one of the other Dragons, who put her on his shoulder.

"Just getting her help to deal with something." Dyn said as he pointed his staff at Nanoha. "But as for you, evil creature..." Nanoha gasped as a red ball appeared at the end of his staff.

"Darkness Beyond Twilight...
Crimson Beyond Blood That Flows..."

Amelia gasped as she heard those words. "There's no way... Why would a Dragon be able to cast that spell?"

Fate and Arf both gasped, but held up their hands to cast defense barriers. They didn't know if they could hold this spell off, the last time a spell like this was cast, it had taken Fate, Nanoha and Yuuno casting multiple barriers to hold off the destruction of a miss.

"Buried in the Stream of Time...
Is where your power grows..."

"Raising Heart." Nanoha whispered with her eyes closed.

"Alright."

A pink circle appeared under her feet as another circle appeared in front of her as pink lines of magic started being pulled towards her, forming into a pink ball. "Zer Ryoku! Zen Kai!" She held Raising Heart Excellion above her head as the ball got larger and larger.

"I pledge myself to conquer, all the foes that stand..." Dyn's eyes widened at the pink light that came from the little monster that was impressive, as was the magic that was rolling off of her. "Against the mighty gift bestowed, in my unworthy hand.
Let the fools who stand before me...
Be destroyed by the power..."

"STARLIGHT BREAKER!" Nanoha snapped her device forward as Arf and Fate dodged to the side, while Amelia flew up and backwards.

"You and I posses! Dragon Slave!!"

Dyn held his staff forward as the red ball became a beam and lanced out towards the oncoming pink beam of destruction.

When the two energies collided, the effect was tremendous as the energies crashed against each other, the color becoming a clear color as the points of contact on the beam shrank down to a single point, before exploding outwards in a dome of destructive energy.

"Nnngh! Sherra, get us out of here!" Dyn grimaced as the energy rushed towards him and his men. He knew that there was no way that he could survive a spell like this.

A moment later, all of the traitor Dragons and Filia disappeared in a flash of energy.

"Wow..." Gourry's eyes widened as he looked to the north. "I didn't know that the sun came up to the north!"

"What?" Lina turned and gasped. "Gourry, that's no sun! Quick, get near me!" That much energy had to be Nanoha doing something. She may not have been able to see it clearly or know where it was, but she could feel it, so she could teleport right to it.

A moment later, the group disappeared in a flash of black.

"Nnnngh!" Fate grimaced as she held up a barrier. But even that was starting to crack under the pressure of the two spells that clashed. Idly, she heard the others cry out, or maybe that was her imagination, she was certain that her ears were bleeding from the destructive sound that was coming from it. Fate had her eyes screwed shut, the light was painful on her eyes as well. 'How... How can we handle this?' She had no idea, the best she could do was hold a barrier up for as long as she could.

She could feel her barrier starting to crack. 'Mother... Father... Nanoha... Arf... Yuuno... Miyuki... Kyouya... I'm sorry, everyone." She knew that she wasn't going to survive this. There was no way that she could survive.

Nothing could.

Lina shook her head as she and the others reappeared just on the outside of the dome of power. "Shiro, Gourry, get in there!"

"What?!" Gourry gasped as Lina growled at him.

"The Sword of Light and the Blast Blade can deflect and absorb magic, you idiot! Just get in there and swing to get the magic to dissipate!"

The two nodded as Gorun Nova lit up and the two ran in, swinging their swords.

True to what Lina said, the dome of destructive energy stopped moving outwards and started moving in reverse as the two swords went to work, causing the power to dissipate and get absorbed into the weapons themselves.

It didn't take long for the white dome of energy to dispel completely, revealing a downed Fate near the center, with Arf, Nanoha and Amelia not too far away from them.

"Hurry!" Lina yelled at Sylphiel and Zelgadis as she ran down to check on her daughters and friend. As she heard Zelgadis, who got to Fate, and Sylphiel, who was healing Amelia, say that they were alive, she let out a sigh of relief as she found that Nanoha and Arf were both alive, albeit shook up. "Thank the Lady for small miracles." Lina chuckled softly. She may not have trusted L-Sama, but she did give that Golden Lord her dues when she could.

From his position, Chrono floated up and gaped at the destruction. Where there was hills, flat area and some small bodies of water...

Was nothing but a large sunken hole in the ground that had some rocks that were glowing red. Well, that and the large amounts of glass that people were walking on. Other than that, he was certain that if they had gotten there a moment later, none of those girls would be alive, hell, he was almost certain that the continent would be split in two before the energy dissipated naturally.

You know you have a reputation for angsty fic writing when you write a cute one-shot about two characters finding a happy kitten and being won over by its kitteny ways...and everyone immediately assumes you're going to injure and/or kill the kitten in a future fic to torture the characters.
