Porn Ad on Animesuki?!
Hey GHDpro, I just saw an advertisement banner with some women in lingerie on Animesuki? What is going on? Is that a porn ad or what? Oh yeah what does it say on it? It's not in English.

Oh? Which one should I post it in then? I think this thread is the right one. Oh yeah and I found the answer to the question. It's seem to be a christmas ad for presents. Silly me.

Hmm... after reading your post, I refreshed until I saw the ad you were talking about. When I clicked on it, I got an error message that said the page couldn't be found. I clicked on some other ads after that, and it seems that none of the ad banners actually WORK.
At least, not from my computer anyway. |

I've seen several ads for some "absolut man" site (*sigh*) wich contains lots of [hardcore] porn and silly popups for gambling etc. With a stupid name for a website like that it's kinda inviting to click it out of curiosity.. can't say I was too surpsied, though.
It also goes under the disguise of some IQ Test, I saw. Running a check on the banner [read: right-click, select properties, check URL] reveals it's a freenet.de banner - like previour said. No no fake spyware etc there. Pretty low if you ask me. Then again, I'm just a "leecher" and am not entitled to complaining, right? Well, I know [guess] you don't select the banners/ads yourselves, but if this banner provider really is such a big and serious company, funny how they chose to support sites like that... Well, either way I'm a little disappointed. Not very family-friendly stuff. I'd hate to have to install ad-blockers, and the likes, to surf here, even if my family doesn't browse the page. (Maybe by accident?) List of some of the banners: http://adserver.freenet.de/Ads/153/2...i/banner17.gif http://adserver.freenet.de/Ads/153/2...836/full/1.gif http://adserver.freenet.de/Ads/153/2...i/banner47.gif http://adserver.freenet.de/Ads/153/2...88/banner1.gif http://adserver.freenet.de/Ads/153/2...831/full/7.gif ..And so on. These all lead to: http://www.absolutman.com/start/index.php These were collected with a few refreshes only. Regards. |

Well, I could get a popup-blocker, or modify my HOSTS file to route to localhost, but for me this is an issue beyond that of "personal survival". And rather than just telling everyone to install blockers, wouldn't it be nice to do something about it?
I know there's plenty of younger people vising this site, as anime mainly attracts those of young age (let's say 12-25 with a deviation of 5-10 (upwards) years). I understand running a site like this is costy, and I really appreciate your hard work, but if you really need money that much then I'd rather donate a small sum (well, if many of the regulars here would it wouldn't be such a small sum, now would it?) than to see this site reduced to the other popup/sex-banner/bothersome-ad kind of site. I understand there might be a lot that you can do, but... If I were you I would send an email to the advertising company telling them that such ads are not suitable for a wide target audience, especially not families with young children that should not learn of sex by hardcore pornographical websites as their first source of information on the subject. But no, I'm not going to go into debate about the [im]moral, women-bebasing, points of pornography, as I assume - by searching these forums among other things - that it's something many of you support, view, and use as opportunity arises. I don't wish to drag myself into some unintellectual flame-war. No, I'm just asking you to rethink what audience your website has. These types of ads might not be appropriate. If you think I may have a point, why not email the company and see what they have to say? Perhaps if enough people do it they will remove them from their pool, and all will be fine. Pardon my possible whining, as may be percieved. Regards. Last edited by Nemesis1911; 2003-12-19 at 14:11. Reason: Death to typos and general spelling mistakes due to mindlessness. |

Well you can use mirrors. I wish admin of AS would implement cookie feature where you could select mirror once and afterwards everytime you go to animesuki.com it would redirect you to mirror u selected (many sites use that since the beggining of time).
P.S. I myself use http://animesuki.sandwich.net/ and there aren't any ads ^_^ |

Well, Mb81, I understand what you're saying...
I just think there may be other ways to maintain a balanced economy without that kind of ads. I'm probably exaggerating a little, but you know, these kinds of ads and websites should be kept at a distance. I'd hate to live the day when it'd become as common and accepted as to run on national tv advertising. And I've already seen a bit of that, unfortunately. Either way.. You could always ask the 'fans' to donate a little ever, say, 3rd - 4th month or something to just balance it out, or such. I like the mirror redirection idea. Shouldn't be too hard making a script that randomly selects a mirror upon entry to the main website. You could even manage a small database table to store activity and usage for the different mirrors and incorporate that into the process of selecting the mirror. So, if a mirror has more than 1.5x it's designated load usage (5 mirrors would mean each should be able to take 20%, modifying this slightly based on bandwidth and server location) it would favor another. And so on. Well, as I said.. it's not an incredibly big deal. I just don't wish to make all this pornography too commonplace. It'd be worse if people got used to it, then acceptance would be inevitable, and rejecting it much harder. You do as you deem the best for the situation, naturally... And keep up the good work! Regards. |
