I haven't watched any anime in about a year. I have been busy with a grueling year of studying ect. Now its summer and I'm ready to hop back into the anime world... but i dont know where to start. Does anyone have any suggestions of currently airing anime? The only thing i am watching currently is Vampire Knight. The only genres i dont like are mecha, ecchi, and magic girl.

To me it seems that the cream of the crop from the spring '08 season are Kure-nai, Macross Frontier, and Niju-Menso no Musume. You might want to pass on Macross Frontier since you're not looking for mecha.

Yeah, both Code Geass and Macross Frontier are mecha. I think you might enjoy the latter regardless though, it's something else. Heck, they both are, but I digress, you're not looking for mecha!

Kurenai, Wagaya no Oinari-sama and Soul Eater would be my picks, excluding any sequels and/or mecha shows.

If you've seen the first XXXholic season, be sure to catch the sequel, Kei.

If by year you mean you have watch anime since the fall season of last year, check out Clannad but that stopped airing

Soul Eater if you're into Shonen
Macross Frontier (i know you said no mecha but just watch episode 1)

Zettai karen Children
Kanokon
The Daughter of Twenty Faces
Kara no Kyoukai (first movie is out)

You should also watch Code Geass and Macros Frontier, I haven't watched them but people say they're good.
