No "hate" or "xyz must die" posts. Discuss why you do or don't like characters without whinging and whining or blatantly campaigning for your favourite.

  • Be polite to your fellow forum members.
Do not insult or harass other members for their likes and dislikes. • Adding a Spoiler tag:
Just highlight your spoiler and click the button found on the "Quick Reply" and "Reply to Thread" forms. Make sure that you include a title for the spoiler!

    • Please use the Report button if you see any spoilers:
Click the button found to the left of the post, just under the poster's avatar. Using the Report button is anonymous and helps the Moderators to locate and deal with problems quickly.

Cute is justice .

Really Shiro is a damn adorable character. Definitely good at her field of games and a pretty competitive person.

Episode 9 and the light novel chapter associated with it prompted me to wonder what kind of parent is horrified at the first words their child speaks and sends her to be effectively imprisoned in a lab as a scientific curiosity. The anime doesn't describe it but in the LN Shiro's mom didn't have a good reaction to Shiro's first words, so to speak.

I'm guessing that instead of the usual "mama" or whatnot, Shiro must've spoken in a complete, fluent sentence, definitely not something you expect out of a baby less than a year old.

So why the terrified reaction and the shunning? I think most parents would be amazed and proud that they have a hyper-genius for a daughter. Is it because Japanese cultural values emphasize fitting in and not standing out? Is it because Shiro stood out too much from the norm?

Definitely odd. The only thing I can think is that the mother wanted more bragging rights. If you send your gifted child to some institute for gifted children she might 'reach her potential' or something and then she gets to be the mother of a genius. Of course that doesn't line up as much with horrified, but that's all I could think of.

I'm more curious about why she was visiting and why Shiro was let out. Maybe if she showed some serious negative reactions to being raised in some scientific facility (shocker). Can't imagine it was having a change of heart since clearly neither Sora nor Shiro seem to care much about being separated from their parents.

We don't know, but given the way Sora and Shiro have acted and spoken about the past, that seems most likely.

I really like Shiro's character. I think it's really cute how she and Sora are so attached!
