this is a must see for those who have and played the Prelude released last 06/28/2008. In my case, I have been waiting for this game's full release since forever and finally it's near here

Now, which Navel game is next in line? Marriage Royale or Judgement Chime?

Looks like multiple Ayus from Kanon XD. I like the the title page.

Well, yeah, of course. They're all characters published in Ascii Media Works novels and manga. Cosplay is a great excuse for cross-promotion!

Yeah I was just about to post on that.

Although D.C. has been the same through its 1gazillion entries, I can say that I can't get sick of it. Looking forward to D.C.III and the new in production anime.

There seems to be tons of Da Capo visual novels. Strangely, there is only 2 animes with 2 seasons each.

This is because there are only two "main story" games so far: D.C. and D.C. II. Each have had two seasons of anime (well, technically the second had one season that was split into two for production reasons). Now they are adding two new "main story" games in the form of D.C. III and D.C. Zero. So it's unclear whether the new anime is related to either of those, or if it's going back to the universe of one of the other two games. We'll see.

Anyway, created the thread for the New Anime. Looking forward to all these products, though my wallet is crying in pain...

*shrug*

You have to keep in mind the principle that drives these companies. The otaku market has tons of turnaround, with new people entering the market all the time and older fans moving on. D.C. is a very accessible franchise with high production values, recognizable themes, and a fair bit of "mainstream" (as far as otaku goes) attention. So for anyone new to the market, the latest D.C. game is a pretty safe place to start. And then there are also us old folk who stick around and look forward to each and every D.C. game that comes out, and they keep throwing new characters and twists in the mix to keep it from getting too stale.

So anyway, I personally don't find it any more or less deplorable than what most any of the eroge companies do in constantly churning out games that are based on similar themes. The only difference is that Circus keeps things all labeled the same way (while introducing all-new characters and scenarios in major incarnations), while other companies change the name and packaging but pitch similar themes and ideas. If Circus started doing different games that were "a lot like Da Capo but not Da Capo", people would probably congratulate them for being innovative, but then you don't have any of the benefits of a recognizable franchise.

(What Circus probably should do is spin-off Da Capo to its own production company, so that Circus itself can move on to new projects and let the "D.C. company" manage the franchise on its own. That way they won't appear like a one-trick pony and can focus more on innovation. That is, if innovation were their main driving focus, which I don't think it is...)

The thing is CIRCUS actually did make other games not belonging to the D.C. franchise, such as Valkyrie Complex, Eternal Fantasy, Princess Party, Home Maid Sweets, AR, Renge, Sukumizu and others. Also, the D.C. series is almost entirely produced under the CIRCUS Northern brand, aside from the cross-brand fandisks. It's just that most people haven't heard of these games before (probably because most of them flopped miserably) coupled with the seemingly endless D.C. games that people are fed up with it. Then again, those are also the people who these games don't cater to anyway. I personally have no problem with what they're doing so long as they keep adding new characters and storylines to keep things fresh. Can't wait till D.C.III!

Oh yeah, of course I know about Circus's other games, having bought a number of them. But I was actually suggesting that they could completely spin-off the franchise completely, not just to a sister brand or something but to its own standalone company. But that would be if Circus saw itself in the business of "creating brands", which I think is what some people in the fan community think they're supposed to be (what with the constant complaints about them milking the franchise). On the other hand, I think they're actually a company that exists to support the Da Capo brand, and all the other games they do are to keep the staff interested and allow them to try different things.

Personally, I'm with you in the sense that I don't really see why other people care if Circus makes games they're not interested in. If you don't want it, don't buy it. It's not hurting anyone, unless you're thinking that they're doing this instead of coming up with things that you might like... in which case, there are tons of other companies anyway. *shrug*

Thought I'd bump this thread with some new content.

There's been a new Nitro+ game in developement in the past few months (one could call it the spiritual successor of Sumaga).

Title: Axanael (アザナエル)
Website: http://axanael.jp/
Release: Winter 2010
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqY_QOj9aec
Platform: PC (WinXP/Vista/7)
Rating: 18+

For some reason, this looks really exciting (ノーコちゃん is love). Looking forward to see some more information.
