I consider KGNE dark because of how sad it all is. After watching most of the episodes, I felt depressed, but then the little clips at the end always cheer you up I hope Planetes doesn't get that way though, at least not for the rest of the series :P

Planet Es is definitely different from that KGNE's "dark"... but it does feel a bit sad now, that
Spoiler:

It's not just the conflicts at personal emotional levels as in KGNE, but deals things of a deeper and grander scale.

Because... I wanted a new image of her?

I like this one better. There was also a wide shot of her standing beside a camera on a tripod that looked spiffy, but I don't think it adjusts to 100x100 limitations all that well.

Just got Volume 2 of the Manga and there is some serious scope for plot development here.

A spoiler question to manga readers:

Spoiler:

Expecting great things from EP12!

I think the manga and the anime are goin into two differnent directs. If you've read volume two then you know how different it is. The manga is a bit darker. Nonetheless, I do believe he is the equivalent.

Personally, I think there should be a Planetes movie, both live action and anime. Both would rock, I think it was made for the big screen.

episode 21 totally rocks! and the theme becomes even darker, now it really seems closer to the feel of the original manga series.

I'd like a little more humour and "love feelings".
Yes, humour like in the very first episodes. Now, it's really dark and sad.
Hachi only has one objective.

Personally I like the approach they are taking, open up with intro ep's containing humor, backstory, and character introductions, then proceed with the central story and show us how deep they can take extend this plot that they have laid out in front of us.

hehe, now it's mostly "anti-love" feelings

Fine with me, since I can't stand those "love conquers all" stuff from Tanabe anyway. As Claire-san said, it's just hypocrisy.

I agree but like I said before, the manga's Tanabe comes across better & more likeable than the anime version and doesn't spew out the love stuff without reason (her background).

The anime really stereotypes Tanabe into a love happy romance idiot...

Actually,

Spoiler:

Anyway, just started to download this episode. So we'll see. I'm just wondering if they will dwelve into Tanabe's past here or would they cop out with an all-too-happy-to-the-characters ending.
