When you refer to the style of Soul Eater. It is true the style comes from the world design and costuming (plus the anime's music). Less so from the directing or the story.
I like Soul Eater but it is true, if you aren't smitten by the eye candy, there's not much else to it to make it stand out. |

I guess I should take that as a compliment since the art style recalls some of the surrealist work of the 60s and 70s.... (Peter Maxx, Crumb, etc) that stuff was *definitely not for kids*.

I can get used to unusual styles pretty easily though, I am a fan of SHAFT and Key-KyoAni adaptations. |

You'll forgive me if I diverge on the opinion of SHAFT/Kyo-Ani having styles that are particularly unique in the wide world of anime, but that's beside the point.
As duckroll has said so far there has been no difference in the episode footage between the evening time and late show editions. Although the new preview for ep 3 was hilarious (Akeno Wantanabe sounds cool as Liz) |

Haha, I just started watching this. I love the style. I'm not sure why, but the whole sorta cartoonish spookyness to some of the background designs is what I really enjoy. that and over all it's a VERY well animated show.
you know what's weird? Maka's voice sounds VERY familiar. actually she almost sounds like one of my friends haha. only, speaking japanese instead of english. >_> I like her voice. at Vexx I think this is the sort of thing I was saying about the art style. It also reminds me of the first picture I ever colored with photoshop. My friend did the lineart. Spoiler for for size:
yeah, no real point in posting that image, but the first thing I thought of when I was watching this was that image.

The style is very Tim Burton-esque.
I'd hesitate to call anything within the show very child-like. If anything, I imagine a child would be horrified to see a sun like that, or a main character like Soul with such sharp teeth, or even Jack the Ripper. Definitely didn't seem like a child-esque style to me...

Just watched the first episode and I enjoyed it greatly!
I really like the characters, wich is btw, something I cannot say about other shows airing this season. >_< ! Off to watch the second one!

I finally got time to see ep 2 and Blair gets hawter with each passing episode . The op has lot of spoilers I guess and the teasers look awesome . Coming to the actual epsiode it gave us better undertsanding of characters . All mystery and pomp surrounding Black Star was destroyed with his announcement .Scythe can be girls too its gender changeable . Chain Scythe aka Tsubaki is the coolest scythe so far . I know Death Scythe will be the coolest but till now Tsubaki is the best based on her changeablity and dexterity . Al Capone refrence parody was good I liked it a lot though I didnt get whether his underlings were cyborgs.
The Background music was pretty nice I have to check up on Shinigami Sama's siyu I love his voice . Black Star seems a mirror image of Soul Eater Nice Call the manga ka takes inspiration from lot of things related to rock to pop culture . I wouldnt be suprised if he was inspired by Tim .
