Um, not really. Even in the first volume she not only apologized to Kamito (after the demon spirit) she saved his life in the arena fight. And Kamito trolled her repeatedly in response to her outbursts. Also, she has a much better reasoning to be a brat (doesn't change that she is one) and Kamito quickly pulls out her dere side to the point she spends 90% of her time in dere mode in the later volumes.

Back to Asterisk, what kind of power does the MC have? I know he uses a sword, but is he like Kamito, where he just uses a bunch of really strong skills, or is he like Ichigo, where he shoots giant energy beams and stuff out of it as well?

He has both skill and power though he is more on the skilled side.

He has great power, but his power is locked up by his sister. He can forcefully unlock it, but he can only stay in that state for a few minutes. Of course, that state in 2 or 3 minutes is more than enough to wipe the floor against most top 10s in the school. In volume 2, he ran into the strongest in the school (also a skill type and at this point the only character more skilled than the MC) and it turned out 2 or 3 minutes wasn't nearly enough and he lost the first round.

So he's just a power-type? He's only got purely physical power and no techniques besides those using the sword?

what the heck? I clearly said he had both but he relies on skill more than power. Because his power is unreliable due to the aforementioned reasons, he needs to use skill more. As of volume 2, there has only been one other character who has superior skills.

He has skills besides swords though swords are his weapon of choice.

When I said technique, I was referring to those diverse, magic abilities like fireballs and lightning strikes. Let me rephrase that. So he relies purely on physical arts?

Oh yeah. Can you tell us who in the academy knew about his abilities from the get-go? Just wondering whose faces we can expect to see jaw-dropping expressions when he struts his stuff.

If that's what you're referring to, then yes, he basically relies on his martial arts. But then again, so does the top ranked girl. When he unleashed his full power though, one strike can send an energy wave, so... yeah.

I think only Claudia- the student council president- and that other blue haired childhood friend with a BFG-9000 (Doom reference). Claudia is somewhat mysterious. She clearly knows more than she lets on.

Older and stronger. She's also the one who placed the seal.

Good question. The MC is looking for her sister which is why he attended the school (his sister was a former student) and as of volume 2, we still don't know much. The sword that MC uses right now was formerly wielded by the sister.

Ehh, if you read it, even the initial incident between Ayato and Juris doesn't play out the way it usually does with the Shana/Aria/Louise/Claire-type characters, who I despise. Even if she says she's punishing him for peeping, when compared to the latter case, who run rampant in blind rage, there's a real sense of playfulness in her engagement with him.
