Is this show really that hyped? I mean this is one of the longer threads for a Spring '13 show, but not unusually long for a series based upon a popular franchise. If you look at how long the Little Busters and SAO threads were a month ahead of their premieres, this is nothing.

Why the LB! thread was that long was for a completely different reason though ...

The LB thread was longer than this even before JC's involvement came out.

From what I remember about SAO was that it had terribly obsessed fans going around and spreading the word that the show was coming out and more people should get into. That fan base was cancerous.

But speaking of popularity it's funny how Attack on Titan here has a PV that has nearly reached 2 million views before it airs. That's completely unheard of. SAO's first trailer to this day only has like 400k. This show definitely has the most attention this Spring.

What ended up hurting LB! and SAO in the end was being let downs. If a show can build hype and actually deliver then you could be looking at truly the next big thing. Good example would be along the lines of Fate/Zero and Steins;Gate

Jojo pt1 had to be rushed because you were always only going to get pt1+2 in a first season, with 2 cours for every additional part that gets animated...

Also Claymore was handled well until the final 4 episodes where they had to go with an original ending, the threat of SnK pulling a Claymore is very real, but hey most of the time anime is an advertisement anyway.

That Kyo Ani Swiming commercial reached over 1 million views in less than a week something that took SnK a month to accomplish. Anyways YT viewer counts have been broken since 2010.

In Japan definitely. There aren't many manga series that are both critically and commercially successful the way Shingeki no Kyojin is.

I'm also wondering what kind of audience they're targeting with the anime.

How do you expect her to fight the titans? There are no magical wands in this story.

Nice to see that they aren't trying to sexualize Mikasa by giving her a swimsuit centerfold or any of the typical female images used in magazines.
