Congrats on the increasing popularity in Japan! The upcoming official guide book even became Best Seller No. 1!
It's a shame the Western audience doesn't realize the quality of this anime, but well, they can continue hyping themselves with hype and miss the true gems. Spoiler for ep5:

We've now run out of OP characters but new Friends of the week keep coming, apparently. The Friends were once real animals. We've learned that before but it has never been stressed so much like in this episode.
The "professor" is what? A human, a very smart Friend, or the park's main computer? |

EP 1: 1.2 million views on NicoNico, twice as much as Konosuba (although I don't know if that's a fair comparison).

Well well, someone finally has some idea of what Bag-chan is. Well, Tsuchinoko had a guess as well, but she didn't feel like sharing it. Shoebill-chan seems more inclined to talk in a useful fashion.
Next week's episode is titled "Japari Library." So are they going to make it there at long last? Will all their (and our) questions be answered? Will Raccon ever catch up? Keep watching to find out!

The wisdom of the shoebill! -_- What is it with Japanese anime and shoebills anyway? Anyhoo, kinda interesting episode, and I wonder what Racoon was holding there at the end with regards to Lucky-san? Hmmmm.

One more thing, though I don't know if it affects the sales chart, but the anime is being sold as a book. It's an official guide book that happens to come with 2 episodes of the anime each. Which is why if you try to find it in the Rankings for Amazon, you will need to look at the Book section
https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/bestsell...ef=zg_bs_nav_0 And as you may expect, it's already sold out. And it seems there was a resupply, but its also sold out. Also, I'm not sure how much profit goes to who, but the episodes on NicoDouga (which require payment to watch) have incredible number of views and comments.

Basically, anime shoebills are there to creepily stare at you. (As this episode of Kemono Friends demonstrated.) |

I don't think it's that much of a mystery. I'm reasonably sure that it's become popular because its cutesy, animal-girl theme park exterior seems to be hiding a dark, post-apocalyptic scenario that almost no-one in the series realizes due to their situations, in which our protagonist may be the last human alive.
