I'm particularly excited about the anime because the DVD releases corrected many of the "still frame" replacements for sequences that missed deadlines or were poor quality.
First pass check of volume 1 (tokyopop english) vs volume 1 (japanese release) ... I haven't noticed much to really whine about so far but I'm only a few pages into it. Most of the differences so far are in just keeping the spirit of the dialog rather than a more literal translation.

Ureshii! Shiawase!!
The past weekend at my local Anime Con I purchased the first two volumes of the Tsukuyomi manga, licensed by TokyoPoP. In waiting for volume three due out by June. Another remarkable difference about Hazuki in the manga, that she also employs much her magic uninhibited not just only on the jagan and her cute charms but also to erect giant barriers and to dispel powerful spells. |

Just finished acquiring and browsing volume 2 .... hmmmm, this reads a bit differently than what I thought was going on in the JP version... time to pull out the dictionary.
Other than that, I thought the story read reasonably well, though you can tell where the translator had some difficulty deciding how to convey the dialog. I guess whats fascinating is that Tokyopop rates this series as 13+ .... knowing what lurks ahead I'm kind of bemused.... especially since Del Rey rated Negi at 16+ and thats just young teens prancing around, unlike TMP with near-loli, loli-thoughts, and some pretty serious loli-seduction down the road. (I don't know if I've ever seen any established ages for the characters.... I always just figured Hazuki for a mature if petite 14 and the two fiancee mikos for 12-ish.)

Tsukuyomi manga became licensed last year, that's why they stopped. Any mention of fansubs and manga scanlation groups over a licensed title will result in deletion of the post. |

i seen it in the stores now and i looked through it a bit. i have to say, the manga loses ALOT of that special dark gothic feeling you get in the first episode of the video. i ll definately pick it up in a few months, but there are a few other things i want to get first.

The manga also doesn't really have that goofy, absurd element that the anime has. It *does* get pretty damned dark in later volumes though ... much darker than the anime. Its interesting to read but I kind of have to say I enjoyed the anime more.

I bought first volume while ago, and for volume two, I'm waiting until I have large order. I usually order many volumes (mainly anime but manga also) at the same time. |

Hmm... I didn't even realize volume 2 was out. Book stores here don't always get in titles that are not Negima, FMA, Naruto, or Fruits Basket and when they do, it's usually a few weeks after the release. If it doesn't turn up by next week, it looks like I'll have to order it online.
As for the 13+ rating, it is strange, and inconsistant with their other title's ratings. Perhaps it was based on only the first volume?
