Kyousogiga is the most beautiful anime I've seen due to high level of creativity and artistic value. Plus the fighting scenes are very well-handled.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Sora no Woto, True Tears, Air, and Angel Beats are the most beautiful I've seen, at least to me.

And if Tari Tari keeps doing what it's doing then add that to my list.

Gankutsuou comes to mind. Yeah not everyone likes it's style but IMO it is beautiful.

Edit: just read the opening post(yeah I pretty much went inside and hit reply button ASAP lol). Glad to see someone who also appreciates Gankutsuou.

I am shocked nobody has mentioned Seirei no Moribito. From the opening song [URL="www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpio7eGL9Mg"] the backgrounds are the most beautiful I have ever seen outside of Studio Ghibli. The clouds, the rice patties, the mountains, the icy snow and sparkling water jump out at you. When firelight flickers out of a cave or a flock of white birds explodes into flight you are right there beside the characters.

I was about to mention Moribito, but you beat me to it. I think the first episode is one of the most beautiful, and best-paced, episodes of televised anime I have ever seen. From the opening walk alongside the rice paddies, to the river rescue, to the sumptuous scenes in the palace, every frame represents a level of artistry uncommon in anime made for television. It also has that Production I.G "sheen" which seems to characterize much of their work. Another good example of this style is the studio's Real Drive.

Mushishi is a really gorgeous show. It was really amazing to see a tv show animated in 1s and 2s, in the second episode when the little girl open her eyes I was like "no way" and there's a lot of OMG moments in this show. Wolf's rain is amazing too, the wolves were really well done, the animation was good for the most part.

Dennou Coil had very rich animation, the mannerisms in the kids, the gorgeous layouts, the charming music, very ghibli like. I never expected to see a show that beautiful again until Xam'd Lost memories, which was another really well produced tv show, the explosion in the beginning of the second episode is just WOW, you don't see that kind of stuff very often in TV.

In movies I think Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Jin Roh, and Blood: The Last Vampire are still my favourites. The characters designs are realistic and that's the style I like the most. The shadows are so impressive in GITS 2 and they did something similar with the shadows in Otogi Zoshi but the animation wasn't that good.

The art looks amazing in the op

Most of Studio Ghibli's are nice works. Beautiful but not flashy.

Balance in art and story.

Not like some animes... beautiful but lacks plot and sense.

I'd have to give my vote to 5 Centimeters Per Second.

Not gonna open the can of worms of trying to define "beautiful", but I will say this:

Cat Shit One is the best looking CGI I've seen in anime.

Images
Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?

Princess Nine has some of the most beautiful music in anime that isn't composed by Yokko Kano. Instead, I'll have to tip the hat to Masamichi Amano and the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra.

Can't really decide on the most beautiful hand drawn anime. Just way too many to choose from throughout the 80s and 90s.

And, the most beautiful anime in the totally ambiguous, undefined, opinionated way: Wolf's Rain.

Out of all Shinkai movies I'd have to pick The Place From Our Earliest Days, because of the beautiful narration + music + scenery all in one, all while within an interesting, gloomy atmosphere. The explanation is to persuade Ledgem to watch it.

Some of 5cm/s frames are breathtaking. But as a whole, I loved Kara no Kyoukai's animation more.

5 Centimeters Per Second - Never, ever seen an anime look so beautiful. The fact that the scenery perfectly compliments the emotions of the characters is an added bonus.

While Shinkai's works are gorgeous eye candies, they feel extremely artificial and CG-like, compared to the soft, warmth of Miyazaki films.

So my vote goes to Ghibli.

5cm/s. Breathtaking scenery.

Well, actually Makoto Shinkai's works all have that gorgeous quality so it kinda hard to single out any for the best.

For me, it's Katanagatari. The design of that show is simply gorgeous, from the colour palette to the character designs, to the backgrounds, to all the stylistic choices. Visually, that show was a work of genius.
