Erm, you know that Marimite wasn't the first in the "high school yuri" genre, right? (Not even the first anime in the genre.) Actually, the basic plot of Strawberry Panic (Shizuma/Nagisa and Amane/Hikari) has more to do with Oniisama he and other classic yuri than with Marimite. Girl enrolls into prestigious high school, meets a fascinating and attractive senpai whom she ends up falling in love with, tries to save her from her past (and present) demons, gets inadvertantly caught up in student politics and intrigue, etc. - this is actually Oniisama he's plot. (Of course, Oniisama is a hundred times more intense and dramatic than Strawberry Panic will ever be.)

I'm not saying Strawberry Panic is not riding Marimite's coattails, but it's hardly a copycat.

Guess what? So does nearly everyone else. If they make their own version, that will be called "innovation", and is entirely allowed.

You can't "take" ideas. You are making it sound like theft. It's a genre-piece, which means it share elements with older shows of the same type.

I just want to highly recommend Oniisama-e (called "Brother, Dear Brother" in the English sub). I think it's the best of the group. Talk about angst. It is not a comedy at all, in contrast to Marimite. And it's not yuri-for-guys.

I do think SP intentionally has fun with just about every meme from Marimite, Oniisama and other girls'-school yuri shows, but it does it in a fairly enjoyable way and has gradually created an atmosphere of its own. It's nowhere near the level of those two shows, though.

I really enjoyed ep19. The Etoile ceremony was wonderfully over the top, as was the scene under the tree. And I loved Nakahara Mai's wail near the end of the episode. I personally would be delighted with whichever relationship Nagisa settles on. I continue to admire Nabatame Hitomi's work as Shizuma. And I thought that the newcomer Iwamura Kotomi did a nice job as Kaori.

I think they could have made this flashback ark more sad and deeper. Not that it wasnt good, but it could have been better.

I loved episode 19. I think I shed a tear here and there, and it is quite rare for me to do that.

From some of the previous comments, I think Tamao will end up more like Miyuki than Shizuma. She is the supportive one, always supporting Nagisa, and letting Nagisa go with Shizuma even though they had a picnic planned. In many ways, it is similar to what Miyuki did for Shizuma and Kaori.

I think, since Nagisa knows about Shizuma's past, Nagisa will be able to do something and help Shizuma move on from her past. It's time for Nagisa to take the wheels in this relationship instead of having Shizuma guide it the whole time.

As for Tamao, I think she is a great character, but I still would prefer to see a Shizuma X Nagisa match up in the end. They are the main characters, afterall. Although, the etoile campaign will be interesting to see how they work that out.

Not a bad flashback episode for a yuri show supposedly full of cliches, eh?

Too bad the flashback took only 1 ep to resolve, and Yaya was the only other character to make a cameo in the flashback (she was a 1st year then 2 years ago). They should've shown us a younger Chikaru and Amane (both in their 3rd year 2 years ago), as well as the origins of the Evil Lesbian Duo (TM) as well.

As a clarifaction there is a total of 26 episodes in Strawberry panic so there are seven episodes left. Anyways episode 21 is titled 'like a flower' so I am guessing that it has something to do with Hikari.

Did you notice that Nagisa still kept the key and Miyuki found that? I guess it hints that Nagisa hasn't left the stage yet. Shizuma is going to graduate from school soon, so the separation is unavoidable. I'm sure Nagisa will cure Shizuma before that. But I'm not sure whether she chooses her as the partner. Possibly Tamao and Nagisa will be the next Etoile.

This all makes sense to me. I think Shizuma and Miyuki are the best partners. They already have friendship. Perhaps Shizuma will find she can respond to the feelings I think Miyuki has always had for her. And of course I hope Miyuki does not have to enter a loveless marriage.

As in Marimite, it is hard to see the "younger generation" as being equal to Shizuma, but Nagisa and Tamao as Etoiles would be a thrill. As I said, however, NagisaxShizuma would be pretty cool, too.

The Japanese school year begins in April, and ends in March.
It's almost November in the anime. I don't really know when the new Etoile's term begins, but maybe it's the early part of the next calendar year. Shizuma is going to graduate from school in March, which means she has no time. (Besides, she's not interested in being Etoile.)

As for Tamao, Chiyo said she was popular among the students of the junior part of Miator and they assumed she's the best candidate. If Tamao is nominated, Nagisa's name must be written on the same paper.
