Tsukumogami Kashimasu

NHK announced that novel 'Tsukumogami Kashimasu' is getting a TV anime adaptation. Coming for 2018.

Plot:
Quote:
The manga is set during the Edo period, in the Fukagawa ward of old Edo (present-day Tokyo). Because the area is prone to fire and flooding, residents rent everyday items like pots, futons, and clothing from shops instead of purchasing them, so as not to impede them when they flee. Obeni and Seiji, an older sister and younger brother, run one such rental shop called Izumoya. However, mixed in with their inventory are tsukumogami, objects that have turned into spirits after a hundred years of existence. The siblings sometimes lend these sentient items to customers. Both Obeni and Seiji can see and talk to these spirits, and other tsukumogami often come to the store after hearing of the famed siblings.

The first episode has now aired, and it was quite cute. It appears to be another mystery type show also dealing with antiquities, it's just that in this case compared to Holmes of Kyoto, many of the objects are tsukumogami.

I could do without yet another step-sibling incest subplot though.

This has been a cute series to follow. Apparently I might be one of the few. This week provided an explainer about "okappiki," informants for the Edo magistrates. The brother and sister team of performers in Oh! Edo Rocket played the same role i believe. Nice to get another perspective on Edo-period culture.

*waves hand* I'm here...as usual. xD

The okappiki made me think of Onihei. I don't know if they ever used that word in the show, but I believe there were a few characters that would fit that role.

I'm watching it and enjoy it, though it's a tad tropey for me. Holmes at Kyoto Teramachi Sanjo suits my palate more.

I like the story and the style, but last episode was a bit off for me since I had watched Onihei already and when they got the thief with the scooby do mood I was like "Hey, your *ss is grass, the cops back then went medieval on mere thiefs".
