I'm still not sure what to make of this. I guess it's just a futuristic sports anime? No idea what kind of sport they'll be participating in. Maybe it's like a general sports thing where they use those extreme gears to engage in various miscellaneous competitions.
Doesn't seem like it will have anything to do with the Nanoha franchise. Whether it's the Vivid franchise or Dog Days, there's definitely a desire by the project writer for this to focus on extreme/unusual sports. Quote:
Also mixing idols and sports is giving me traumatic flashbacks to Pride of Orange .

I still don't know what to make of this show. Though hey, it can't possibly combine idols and sports more awkwardly than Pride of Orange. So, guess we'll see how this turns out.
Not particularly hyped. But it could work better than I'm expecting.

This was touted as a sports anime on anichart, so I watched episode 1 and all of a sudden its about idols.
So to have the premise that doing well in sports would lead to a future as an idol is kind of a stretch. Like, wouldn't their success in sports further their career in sports? Regarding the extreme gear, what the hell does it really do? It looks like they boost the player's abilities, so running would be a dash, jumping would be higher, hitting/kicking would be faster? Since they showed soccer, I was thinking it's like Mario Strikers. Character wise, I'm ok with them as friends, but it wasn't explained how Sumi knows Saki (are they siblings?). I wonder what's with the robot AIs? They didn't seem very competent in the soccer match. Also, random ad hoc substitutions are a thing. Not sure if I'll continue to follow this anime all the way, but I'll give it a few more episodes just to watch the sports action. |

At least the first episode did lay out the plot a bit better. And this mix of idols and sports works better for me than Pride of Orange! Because it really is just...both. The sports are definitely right in there since they are actively playing them and will be jumping between various sports. They even can handle the issue of having a good amount of players thanks to rentable AI players .
But the musical side of it is still a driving force. So it isn't exactly like Hiyori dropping music for sports. But at this point needing to use sports to try and keep her musical dreams alive. That she can have others go with her along the journey is a bonus. The logic seems alright to me anyways. Doing better in sports creating more mainstream attention that can be used to basically advertise her music. Because people have short attention spans and need some action to get their eyes on the screen first . Not bad so far. Definitely had a good time. Quote:
I guess the AIs are there so teams can fill out full rosters without needing a huge group. So the sports can have fairly full rosters without needing generic people to fill the ranks. And probably just to help out artists that aren't in big idol groups to still field a full team. Probably some rules about keeping the specs on the robots low. Otherwise they then walk into the question of why they are having people compete at all when they can just watch bot games . Though it still opens up a can of worms in that sense.

episode 1:
enjoyed it a lot. Hiyori keeps going even with so many failures. Well, even with just one fan, an idol can continue. it appears that swapping players is legal to do mid-game? looking forward to next week!

I disagree with you all.

I feels it sucks both as an idol anime and a sports anime.
Especially the sport aspect. Swapping players without the ones already playing being aware is ridiculous. And I hope it at least was a swap, and not a straight addition. |

At least them joining in seems probable since I'm sure Sumi made sure to register them as players in case they were asked to help or if Saki gathered the will to join in. So at least that part works fine .
